Building Pyramids and Fishing in the Nile

Everybody has made incredible progress in every area, particularly their communication, understanding and social skills! We have officially begun our new topic for the Summer but before we talk about that, take a look at some of the official photography from this year’s Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival! We performed ‘Julius Caesar’ at the Northern Stage last term and, as ever, blew everybody away with our incredible production! James, in particular, was magnificent in the lead role:

We have been learning all about Ancient Egypt for our new topic. We know that the Ancient Egyptian people had a king that was known as a pharaoh. When they died they were kept safe as a mummy in a pyramid. The people of Egypt at the time used the River Nile to wash their clothes, grow crops and catch fish to eat. We have used these four key concepts to support learning in class. We have all taken turns at acting as the pharaoh and leading the class using our VOCAs. We have used our problem solving skills (and fine motor skills) to create mummies out of our favourite toys (and ourselves!) while we have used bricks to create our own pyramids. We have used our magnetised fishing game to ‘fish in the Nile’ and this has supported our understanding of numerals and 1:1 correspondence in Maths. We visited the Great North Museum to check out some Ancient Egyptian artefacts (and we loved everything else on offer too!) Check it out:
