Our week in class 3/4.

14th January 2022Antonia White

Hi everyone,

This week we have started our new topic: inventions! We have started by looking at the invention of Lego; which has proven very popular with everyone in class. We found out that the inventor of Lego (and Duplo) was a man from Denmark called Ole Kirk Christiansen.

In maths we have looked at the different colours and the patterns that can be made with the bricks, before trying to both copy sequences of bricks and create our own. In science we looked at what material Lego was made out of, and we discovered that it was plastic. After that we experimented with the Lego to find out the properties of plastic and why it is a good material to make the bricks out of. We discovered that Lego (plastic) was waterproof, hard, shiny and not bendy. In art we have made Lego and Duplo prints, which now form part of our class display. We practised our fine motor skills by completing Lego drawings and colourings and topped it all of with some of the Lego movie this afternoon.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Welcome to the spring term.

7th January 2022Antonia White

Hello everyone and welcome to the spring term!

It’s been a short but eventful start to the term. We dived right back into the swing of things on Wednesday with P.E., where we played competitive games such as relays and sprints. Some of us also went to rebound and practised our bouncing skills. On Thursday we did maths, read our books and practised our words in English before having some time in the sensory room. Today we have had assembly, listened to songs and enjoyed some relaxed wellbeing time; all alongside toasty Friday as well.

We have also had a new arrival, we would like to say hello to our new friend Ruby! Welcome Ruby! You’re a great addition to our class!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Christmas is coming!

2nd December 2021Antonia White

Hello everyone,

It’s that time of year again, when the festive season is upon us! This week we have had lots of Christmas fun in school. Santa and his elves made a flying visit in his Santa bus on Monday, and gave us all a selection box before having to get back to Lapland; to continue making the toys for all the boys and girls. On Wednesday the children came in and the school had been transformed into a winter wonderland. We all had our advent assembly together, lit our advent candle and had our big Hadrian Christmas light switch on. We have started making Christmas items for the children to keep and take home with them, and have listened to math’s related Christmas songs. Apart from this we had a really special fine motor skills session and an extra rebound session.

Congratulations to Noah, who is our half term achiever!

Enjoy the weekend!

This week in Antonia’s class.

26th November 2021Antonia White

Hi everyone.

This week we have done lots of exciting things. at the end of last week, Anika had a wonderful idea; she and some of the other children had been collecting leaves outside, and she wanted to put paint and glitter on them. So we pressed the leaves over the weekend, and used them to made autumnal tree pictures. After they had dried we put paint and white glitter on them, they look sensational! We also made water colour sunset scenes, which are equally fabulous.

In cookery we made some carrot and coriander soup, where the children saw how to peel carrots before chopping them, the potato, and the coriander; and then helped to blend it down with the once it had boiled. It seemed to be a great hit and several of the class asked for second helpings.

We have used mini wispas to look at the concept of more in maths, which worked out as a great motivator! The children have also been working  on their numeral recognition, counting out sets of objects and 1:1 correspondence. In English we have done some guided reading, worked on writing our names, initial sound recognition and sight word recognition. We have also worked hard on our fine motor skills. the class all concentrated really well with all of the activities including: cutting, lego, threading with superhero characters, copying seashell patterns and more!

Have a good weekend everyone!

This week in Antonia’s class.

19th November 2021Antonia White

Hello everyone,

This week in class we’ve had kangaroo club and rebound, along with invasion games in P.E., where we were in two teams competing to get the most cones. We have used water and paint to make sunset style pictures, and we have made potato and leek soup in cookery; definitely a mixed verdict from the children!

We have continued with our humanities topic of fantasy superheroes, and we talked about the creator of many modern day superheroes, Stan Lee. We looked at how some comic books used to be illustrated with lots of little dots, and coloured our own superhero pictures in the same way.

Finally, happy children in need day! Thank you to everyone who sent in donations and dressed children in outfits/pyjamas/non-uniform, it’s very much appreciated.

Enjoy the weekend!

First week of Autumn 2.

5th November 2021Antonia White

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to School! I hope you all had a good half term. What a first week back we have had! On Tuesday, as part of our humanities topic we went to The Safety Works and heard from some real-life superheroes. There were many different people there, and we heard from The Fire and Rescue service, and representatives from Nexus and Road Safety. We learnt what do to do if we ever need help at a metro station, we learnt how to cross the road safely, looking at how traffic lights change and when it’s safe to cross, we were taught about bonfires and sparklers and how to be safe around them, and we even got to try on a firefighter’s outfit. We were shown around a house where there were many hazards that could cause a fire, and even what a burnt out room would look and smell like. Apart from that we were shown what the inside of a police station might look like, including a cell, an interview room and station desk, before being able to try on some police outfits. It was wonderful and we all really enjoyed it.

In art we created firework pictures with oil pastels and paint splatters using teabags; and we also designed fantasy superhero masks. We have learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and made coconut ladoos for Diwali, and had a fantastic firework display in school.

I hope you all have an enjoyable and safe bonfire night everyone. Enjoy the fireworks!

This week in Antonia’s class.

15th October 2021Antonia White

Hi everyone,

We have done lots of fun things this week;, In P.E. we continued our practise with javelins, and introduced foam discuses, practised our counting and numeral recognition in maths and our reading and writing in English. W

e cooked ‘The Hulk’ Spinach and lentil dahl in food tech, bounced in kangaroo club and had fun in football.

This week was our last week on real life superheroes; and we looked at many different people who help us. Afterwards we thought about times where we might need help and who we would need in that situation.

Next week is our last week before the half term, nearly Hallowe’en!

Enjoy the weekend!

This week in Antonia’s class.

7th October 2021Antonia White

Hi everyone,

This week we have celebrated harvest festival around the world, and have done lots of harvest related activities in class. We have used conkers and other materials that we collected to make conker figurines, we have baked bread which was entered into our school bread competition, and we watched our harvest festival assembly, where we saw how each class had celebrated harvest in the style of different countries.

After learning how to make toast in food technology we decided to build on that and make scrambled eggs on toast. This was very popular with the class and most ended up asking for more!

During out topic of real life superheroes, we talked about using 999 emergency calls, and discussed when you would need to ring for the emergency services. We then role played a 999 call and everyone was amazing at answering questions and asking for whichever service they ‘needed’.

Have a good weekend everyone!

What a wonderful week!

24th September 2021Antonia White

Hi everyone,

We’ve done lots of lovely things in class this week. We’ve been blackberry picking in our orchard, and of course we then had to make blackberry crumble, we’ve discussed more than and less than in numeracy and we have been practicing our writing and fine motor skills in English. In Humanities we’ve continued with our topic of real life superheroes; this week was all about police officers. We talked about what a police officer does and the equipment they use.

Sadly we have to say goodbye to our Janice as this was her last week in school. Goodbye and good luck Janice! Hopefully we will stay in touch.

Have a good weekend everyone!
