Ready for the final set!

11th June 2021Simon Hall

Welcome back for our final half term everyone. We have had a fun filled week in our class this week. On Tuesday we had a wonderful time learning some tennis skills. And on Wednesday we had Klaudia teach all of us how to make some pierogi. Which is a type of polish dumpling. The children were great at making them and thoroughly enjoyed eating them. Big thanks to Klaudia for teaching us how to make them.

We would also like to say a big well done to Kaleb for earning our certificate this week for doing some fantastic listening and speaking in our music lesson. He was able to identify various instruments that were used when we listened to Holst’s The Planets. He was also able to work out the Venus section was about peace. Well done Kaleb.

Beetroot Brownies!

14th May 2021Simon Hall

Hello everyone.

On Wednesday Rosie taught us all how to make beetroot brownies. She was fantastic as our head chef and even taught some children how to fold the dry ingredients into the mixture. Well done everyone!

On Thursday there was a gap in all of the rain so we took the opportunity to enjoy the sun and spent some time on the trim trail.

We would like to say a big well done to Charlie & Kayden this week. They both earned a certificate this week for meeting their using and applying outcomes in maths. Well done to both of you!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everybody next week.

P.S. Next Friday (21st May) is a staff training day, so there will be no children in school.

50 & Fabulous!

7th May 2021Simon Hall

Hello everybody.

We would like to start this blog by wishing our class teacher Antonia a big happy 50th birthday. All of the children have been very excited to celebrate this and we have had cake and a party this morning.

This week we have done lots of hard work on our English and maths outcomes. That being said… one of our favourite activities this week has been making fruit kebabs in our cookery lesson.

Since we have not posted a blog in a while we thought it would be nice to show you some pictures of our football lessons that we have been having at Friday lunch times. All of the children have been putting in lots of effort during our football lessons. Special shout out to Noura who has really been giving her all in these sessions… as well as Maria who was fully dedicated to her role as goal keeper.

We would like to say a very big well done to Maria for earning our half term achiever this week. She earned this for learning new words in her English lessons. Learning about number bonds & money in maths. Being incredibly enthusiastic in P.E. & being an amazing scientist in our science lessons. Well done Maria!

We would also like to give another shout out to Noura who earned a medal this week for trying so hard in our first Gymnastics session. She attempted all of the balances with enthusiasm and grace. Well done Noura!

Bowling Us Over!

26th March 2021Simon Hall

Hello everyone.

We apologise that we have not posted a blog in a while. We have had some technical issues. We are back in action now so I thought I would share what we did in P.E. last week. In P.E. we have been learning about cricket, particularly, striking & fielding.

Our lesson last week was our first lesson using the bats & the children all did a fantastic job and tried very hard. We are all very impressed with how well they did.

We would also like to say a big well done to the whole class this week for earning our weekly certificate for their performance of the short Bible story ‘The Wedding Feast at Cana’. There was lots of great acting going on and they all did incredibly well.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everybody next week.

Here Today… Scone Tomorrow.

26th February 2021Simon Hall

Welcome back everybody. We hope you all had a lovely half term. We have had a very busy first week back. We have been doing lots of hard work on our English & maths targets. We had a great time making cheese scones in cookery this week… with the expert help of Rob, using his mother’s secret recipe. They certainly went down well.
On Thursday we had a live (via the internet) book reading from Morag Hood. She read her new book ‘The Spaghetti hunters’ to the children and answered various questions that the children asked. The children found this really interesting.

We would also like to say a big well done to Charlie D. He earned our certificate this week because he has achieved one of his maths outcomes by learning all the number bonds to 10. His determination and enthusiasm while doing this were wonderful to see and he is so proud of himself, as are we all. He also earned a medal because he has learned how to tie his shoe laces… which is a tricky skill to master. Well done Charlie!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

Loafing Around!

5th February 2021Simon Hall

We have had a wonderful 3 days in school this week. As it is children’s mental health week  we have been entirely focusing on our wellbeing. We have been doing lots of fun filled activities including making a banana loaf, cosmic yoga, biscuit decorating and painting flowers for our display about ‘being happy’.

We also spent some time making badges for special people in our lives. Some people chose friends from school, others chose family members and people from their home lives. We all had a good think about our chosen person and thought of a specific word that we would use to describe that person. Some examples of words that were chosen were “cuddly”, “lovely” & “cool”.

We would like to say a bit well done to everyone who did lots of hard work and helped their families around the house on Monday & Tuesday when we were not in the building.

We would also like to say a big well done to Kayden who earned our certificate this week. He earned this for really getting stuck into everything this week, including home learning!
On the two days we did remote learning, Kayden worked with his nana and grandad to do his reading, physio and spellings. He also helped prepare dinner! He completed the science investigation (string telephones) and was surprised to find they worked! He has been amazing at all the wellbeing work we have done this week too, from yoga and dancing to board games and art. Great work, Kayden!

Shooting for the Stars!

15th January 2021Simon Hall

Hello everyone.
We have had a very busy week, as well as our usual maths & English work we have been learning about lots of different things. We started our new science topic which is all about sound. We learned that sound is caused by vibrations and we found out lots of interesting things about our ears. In addition to this we learned all about the journey of bread… from the planting to the baking. In P.E. this week Antonia shared her skills at basket ball with us and was teaching us all how to shoot shoot some hoops. While we were waiting for our turns we were having a lot of fun on the body boards.

We would also like to say a big well done to Charlie L. He earned our certificate this week, as well as a medal. He was awarded these because… as always, Charlie’s behaviour has been an example to all, even with the excitement of snow! Not only that, he came up with a fantastic name for our new breakout space (The Lounge), impressed everyone with his answers in topic and did really well with his maths work, too. In fact, he has worked brilliantly in everything! Fantastic, Charlie, we are so impressed!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Sculpting young minds.

8th January 2021Simon Hall

Welcome back everybody.

Even though this week has been a bit shorter than normal we have still been able to fit plenty of things in. Our children have all done a wonderful job working on their maths & English targets. We have also started two new topics this week. The first of which is ‘where does food come from?’ We spent lots of time discussing our favourite foods and where they come from… such as apples being from the U.K & mangoes being from India.

Our second new topic was the artist Antony Gormley, who makes sculptures in the shape of people. We had a look at pictures of various sculptures that he has made as we had a go at making our own people shaped creations. Initially with some card in different shapes, before moving onto using cubes. Charlie D even made a version of the angel of the north using his cubes.

We would like to say a big well done to Charlie D for super work in our new ‘Sculptures’ topic in art. Charlie listened really well in the lesson and could tell us that he liked the Angel of the North sculpture and why. He worked brilliantly during the independent task to create a 2D shape sculpture with a human form. Afterwards, he continued to work on sculpture during choice time, making an amazing Angel of North sculpture using multilink cubes. Well done Charlie!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

We Like to Party!

18th December 2020Simon Hall

We have had a very Christmassy week in Antonia’s class this week.
We made gingerbread on Wednesday, which was very sticky but very fun. We had our Christmas lunch on Thursday which was lovely and tasty. The children loved pulling their crackers.

We also had a wonderful time at our Christmas party this afternoon. We played lots of games and we even had the chance to meet Santa.

We would also like to say a big well done to Kaleb who earned our certificate this week. He earned this for working so hard at everything over the last few weeks. Kaleb has been working hard on his writing and his letter formations are coming along great. He has also been working hard on his maths and is able to add and subtract 2 numbers together when the answer lies under 30. He can even do the addition sums in his head!. Well done Kaleb.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Babka!

11th December 2020Simon Hall

Hello everyone.

This Wednesday we made our interpretation of babka is cookery. Babka is a dish that is often made during Hanukkah. Our version used bananas & chocolate in order to make a cake. The children all worked very well as a team and thoroughly enjoyed trying this dish. We all look forward to our Hanukkah party this afternoon.

We would also like to say a big well done to Joe who earned our certificate this week. He earned this by having such a good day on Thursday. He was kind to his friends on the bus on the way to school, he listened really well throughout the day and he was incredibly focused during our junk modelling session. Well done Joe!

We hope that you all have a lovely weekend!
