Christmas is a time to celebrate together.

6th December 2019Clare Downey

The Santa bus arrived at Hadrian School

Kian met Santa before our Christmas trip…

Santa caught the bus this week to meet the children of Hadrian School.  Rumour has it, the big man heard how wonderful our children are and wanted to see for himself.  He brought one of his elves and Rudolph too.

On the very same day our class went out to enjoy our Christmas trip to Alnwick Garden.  We had a jam packed day…we began the day by training to be real North Pole elves for the morning. We made our own decorations for the tree and a special magic pouch of reindeer dust to put out on Christmas eve. Santa’s elf, Jingle Bells Jenny, asked us to help her find all of Santa’s presents to put under the tree. We were great at finding the missing gifts, and were so good that we were all put on the ‘good list’. This meant we all got to meet THE REAL SANTA!!  He was lovely and gave us all a present to open. After such a magical morning we decided to enjoy our packed lunch in the conservatory area as it was beautiful sunny weather.

After our lunch and a run around the fountains we all got to go in the real snow play area.  We had great fun making snow angels and filling buckets and wheel barrows with snow.  Before we got back on the bus to return back to school we sneaked in a turn on the Hurricane dodgem cars; every child had a turn sitting with an adult and steering their own cars. We love the fact that staff at Alnwick could help us include every child in class in the activities.  What a day!! We hope you like the pictures below…

Have a great weekend everyone!!

This little light of mine!

22nd November 2019Clare Downey

Hi everyone!

This week in class 1a we have started a new topic, Light and Dark! During our week we have been investigating all the different things we can do with light. We have had lots of fun in our light and dark exploration sessions, working out the cause and effect of switches and making shadows in lots of different shapes and sizes.

In conjuction with our light and dark theme, we have been making our own version of the Vincent Van Gough painting – A Starry Night! Using black, blue and yellow each child got the chance to let their creative side shine and paint their own sky! Kian was very proud of his stars!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

FIREWORKS FUN

Hello 1A  followers.  We began our second autumn term with a BANG………..QUITE literally.  This week we celebrated Bonfire Night.  Thank you to all of our lovey families for joining us on Tuesday night for a spectacular fireworks display at school.  They seem to get better and better every year.

We had our own celebration in class on Tuesday too.  We had a sparkler display  outside and we talked about keeping ourselves safe around Fireworks.  We had fun watching the beautiful lights and the patterns they made as our teachers danced round and round with them.

We also made super duper firework pictures with paint and glitter.  They sparkled like the real thing,  We have enjoyed an art filled week as we also made our individual poppies for next Monday’s remembrance assembly.  Every year we share a very emotional assembly, remembering those we’ve lost.  Families and friends of  staff or children who have passed away over the past 20 years at Hadrian are welcome to come a share a prayer on Monday at 2pm.

Lest We Forget

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Have a super weekend everyone.

Our hard work in 1A

18th October 2019Clare Downey

Happy Friday everyone.  We have all worked super hard in 1A this week.  Huge thanks again to our friends Pat and Doug for helping us during hydro this week.  We appreciate you supporting us every Friday afternoon.  Children get super excited to see Pat and Doug!

Max has been doing some fantistic communication this week using his super-duper eye gaze!  He even began to use it during reading sessions this week! Well done Max.

Max using his eye gaze.

We’ve all worked hard on our pre-writing skills this week, mark making outside using water and paint brushes.  Lots of lovely skills, following lines and making patterns.

We also finished our 3 little pigs topic with a wolf hunt.  We looked around our school’s wonderful outdoors to find the big bad wolf. It was thristy work so we sat outside and drank  yummy hot chocolate with our friends.

We’re going on a wolf hunt

We’re gonna catch a big one

What a beautiful day

We’re not scared!

Have a lovely weekend.

Harvest Festival week has been a musical one…….

4th October 2019Clare Downey

We cracked our own eggs

eeeewwwww it is gooey

Karl loved cracking his egg to see what was inside

Kian was excited to crack his egg

well done Nafisa

It was Harvest Festival week at Hadrian.  We celebrated in our special assembly on Wednesday.  Every class was given a bread baking task this week to show in assembly.  We loved making our 3 little pigs sticky brioche buns.  The recipe allowed every child in class to crack their own egg!  We had fun kneading our bread and watching as it rose to double the size!  Everyone presented their bakes in assembly to our judges, Mrs Stokle and Mr Todd.  They had the job of tasting everyone’s bakes and choosing the winning class.  Our friends in Coralie’s class won the bread ‘bake off’ this year and took home the notorious winning tea towel to class.  Their Italian loaf looked amazing.

We also had fun in class this week with our music therapists, Afra and Tom.  Our children were so engaged in playing instruments and singing.  Afra tuned into each child, responding to vocalisations and repeating sounds and tempos using her guitar.   1A are doing very well, stopping and starting at appropriate points now.  This is great progress for week 4 of music therapy.

Finally, we rounded off the week with a visit from my 7 month old puppy, Wally the Sprollie.  He was such a hit in class we only managed to grab a couple of photos!  Everyone took turns to either hold the leash, have a stroke or feed him a biscuit, depending how confident they felt with him.  It was such a treat to end a hard working week for our children in 1A!

Happy Friday everyone!

We have all enjoyed learning outdoors this week.  Taking advantage of the beautiful weather.  We have explored roleplay outdoors, waterplay, snacktime picnics and even a trip out on the minibus to  see the features of our houses.  Wea are all becoming really familar with our new routine and timetable.  Using songs of reference, everyone in class is beginning to understand wht is happening next.  The following song is the song we all sing before we go home…… Have a sing along at home.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Second week in 1A

13th September 2019Clare Downey

Here are some highlights from our fantastic week in 1A! We have been learning through the traditional tale of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’.  We have painted, made houses, listened to the story and watched Disney’s silly symphony.  Take a look at the link below with your children.  Lets see if they can retell the story at home?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKxWJP_LH7A.

We celebrated Sulayman and John in assembly today for their great achievements.  Well done also to Sulayman and Max for settling so well.  We hope you are enjoying your time at Hadrian.

Here are some highlights from our week in class………

Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome Back

9th September 2019Clare Downey

Hello and welcome to our Class 1A blog.  We hope you all had a lovely summer.  It’s lovely to see our 1A happy faces around school again. Everyone has settled into their new classroom very well.  We have 2 new friends in class.  Our Sulayman and Max are new to Hadrian school.  They’ve both enjoyed finding their way around school and already have lots of new friends.  Max has assigned himself the job of getting the register in the morning.  He already knows which is our register and where to go in school to find it!!!  Sulayman has loved exploring our outdoor area.  I can see he is going to love our school already!!  Both boys were introduced during our whole school welcome assembly.  They bravely stood at the front with Mrs Stokle to say hello to their new school friends.  I must say, I was very proud to see them so enthusiastic during our “shake a friends hand” welcome song.  We look forward to sharing their journey through Hadrian.

Every child in class took home a certificate to say well done for settling into class so well this week.  We have enjoyed getting to know our friends during our favourite activities: rebound, hydro, outdoor learning, stories and play time!  Super first week.

Here are a few photos from our first week.  During our weekly blog, we endeavour to share the highlights of our week.  I hope you all enjoy….

Blyth Beach

8th July 2019Clare Downey

What a fantastic summer trip class 1b had to Blyth Beach on Friday. We set off on the bus from school and made it in good time to Blyth to enjoy a lovely sunny day on the beach. The children enjoyed exploring the sand and building sandcastles with their buckets and spades. It was a little overcast when we first got down on to the sand but it soon brightened up. The children enjoyed some chips from the fish and chip shop for their lunch and a yummy ice cream from the ice cream van before heading back to school. What a lovely way to spend our Friday together, everyone had so much fun!

The sunshine arrived finally!

27th June 2019Clare Downey

What another fantastic week in class 1b. The children are such a pleasure to have in class and are so fantastic to be around, we are so sad our journey with these beautiful children is coming to an end in just three weeks!

The children have been busy experiencing lots of different activities and sessions around our topic of the ‘seaside’.

On Wednesday we enjoyed getting extremely messy in Art. The children absolutely loved getting their hands in and exploring the blue paint, so much so that some children were left looking like smurf’s when we were finished. Great fun for all the children and adults involved.

We took advantage of the lovely weather today after a very wet miserable week and took a walk to Lidl’s to pick up some supplies. We then had great fun in the park!

Have a lovely weekend.

Class 1b Staff.
