The last two weeks in class 1b.

20th June 2019Clare Downey

What a busy two weeks we have had in class 1b. We have celebrated lots of birthdays, been on a trip to Alnwick Gardens, had a visit from Clare and her adorable puppy Wally and even had time to fit in some hard work!

Raphael and Emma both celebrated their birthday’s last Tuesday.

James met Clare’s puppy Wally last week and celebrated his 6th birthday today with his friends.

Alnwick Gardens

18th June 2019Clare Downey

Class 1b joined up with Nadia’s class for a trip out to Alnwick Gardens. Unfortunately it was a very wet day, however the sunshine did make an appearance during the afternoon. The rain didn’t stop us though; we got wrapped up and went for a lovely walk around the gardens. We were lucky enough to be given the hut to eat our lunch in and to celebrate a birthday! Yvonne made a big wish as she blew out her special birthday candles. In the afternoon we enjoyed some more exploring, we had another walk around the grounds and saw some wonderful water features. It was really lovely day and all the children enjoyed themselves.

What a great start to the term.

7th June 2019Clare Downey

Wow! What a fantastic first week back we have had. We hope you all enjoyed a lovely week off and are ready for the fun ahead in the last six weeks of your 1b journey.

This week we have been full of busy, the children have enjoyed lots of new activities which have all been themed around our topic ‘the seaside’. The children have loved experiencing our new sensory story ‘A day at the Seaside’, especially smelling and tasting the ice cream and sweets. We have been looking at seaside colours and used blue paint in Art, as well as experiencing lots of blue messy play in sensory exploration. We have also enjoyed the sand pit and water wall imagining we were at our very own seaside.

We are so happy that Morgan is feeling much better after being quite poorly in hospital last half term; he has been in school all week enjoying lots of lovely activities. Melvin the monkey has been keeping Morgan company while he has been poorly. We hope to have him back in school next week to tell us about his adventures.

James has been doing some fantastic work in his phonics this week and particularly enjoyed making the silly soup looking for objects that begin with the ‘s’ sound.

Raphael has been enjoying some new tastes this week too.

Ameenah and Basheer have both celebrated Eid this week, we hope that both families had the most fantastic time.

Ameenah also received our weekly achievers certificate for her fantastic work on Thursday in Singing and Music with Phil and George.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Happy Half Term Holidays!

23rd May 2019Clare Downey

Half term holidays already, how did that happen?? The children have been absolutely fantastic this half term, we are so proud of each and every one of their achievements. They have all worked so hard and showed so much enthusiasm for learning about our topic ‘on the farm’.

Here are some photo’s of the children listening to their sensory story ‘what the ladybird heard’.

Next term our topic will be the seaside.

This week we have took advantage of the lovely weather and had some great communication groups outdoors. We have also been able to get out of school twice, once to Newburn park and then again this afternoon for a walk, we bumped into two donkeys and a llama on the way!

Here are some lovely photos to show you how busy we have been this past week.

We hope you all have a fantastic break and see you back in school Monday 3rd June raring to go for the last part of your 1b journey.

We would also like to say a huge thank you for all your patience and support this half term whilst Clare has not been here, it means the world to us to know how supportive our 1b followers are.

Jess, Alyson, Emma and Corrie.

Science and DT week part 3…

17th May 2019Clare Downey

On Thursday the class particularly enjoyed the light and dark sensory zone. We then took a tour around the science fair to see what amazing experiments the other classes had prepared to showcase, there were some fantastic experiments going on. We also got the opportunity to make some more slime which the children loved.

We then finished off our entry for the bake off.

Look how amazing our ‘on the farm’ themed cakes are!!

Today (Friday) we have been to assembly this morning, all of our children in class were awarded certificates for their great work this week. We are so proud of all our children and how well they have engaged in the activities this week.

Unfortunately we did not win the bake off competition, but we are still happy with how great our cakes turned out. This afternoon we are venturing up to the new water wall to finish off a fantastic week!

Dates for your diaries:

We have managed to secure the minibus for a last minute trip next Tuesday (21st May). We will be back in school by 1pm but will be having lunch out. We are hoping to get to Blyth beach or Salt well park – weather dependent.

Friday 14th June we will be having an all day trip to the farm.

Friday 5th July we will be having an all day trip (Summer trip) to the beach.

We will keep you informed of further details nearer the time of the trips.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and see you next week for another brilliant week before half term!

Thanks

Class 1b staff.

On Tuesday the class made sensory bottles and loved exploring gloop, it was very messy but all of the children had a great time.

On Wednesday we made our boats for the Hadrian boat race and started our entry for the bake off…

Science and DT week

13th May 2019Clare Downey

Happy Monday to our 1b followers.

Here is the photo (as promised last week) of our brilliant ‘on the farm’ display, the children have worked so hard the last few weeks to create lots of different animals for this display and it has certainly paid off.

This week is Science and DT week, so the children will be involved in lots of different and exciting activities. Be prepared for them to come home very messy some days.

We have had a great start to the week with a fabulous ‘cool science’ assembly, the children enjoyed watching and taking part in a number of experiments which were amazing.

We then went to a workshop to make our very own SLIME!!!

Class 1b have had a busy start to the week and it is only going to get more fun and exciting as the week goes on. We will be posting more photos later in the week to show you all what fantastic things we have been up to. So keep popping back to see what great things the class have been up to.

This week in class 1b….

10th May 2019Clare Downey

What a lovely week we have had in class 1b. We hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend and are ready to enjoy another two days off. The children have been really busy and achieved so much in just a four day week.

What have we been up to?

All of the children have enjoyed lots of physical activities this week, working really hard to build their confidence and strength in Jabadao, Soft play, Rebound therapy and Hydrotherapy.

They have worked extremely hard in Art to make the final animals for our farm display (photo to follow).

They also enjoyed a walk to the West End United Reform Church to visit the Knitted Bible Stories Exhibition yesterday afternoon. The exhibition was made up of lots of beautifully knitted characters to tell many stories from the bible. The children had a great time experiencing the different displays and enjoying a well-earned snack of juice and biscuits from our very own chair of governors Pat Fox. A lovely time was had by all.

Happy Friday.

James is spelling his own name

Lucas has great fun making his chicken

Katrina is enjoying exploring the yellow tissue paper

Hope is making a goat for our farm

Ameenah is challenging herself going up the stairs and down the slope

Happy Bank holiday!

3rd May 2019Clare Downey

Happy Friday! We have made it through another week, with lots of exciting learning and experiences.

The children have been so busy this week as we continue with our topic ‘on the farm’. They have enjoyed the sensory story of ‘what the ladybird heard’ in literacy whilst in art we have been making some animals to go on display.

The most fun was our exploration session; the children got so much out of exploring the different textures and tastes and getting messy in the meantime too.

The whole class also enjoyed Jabadao this week; we tried something a little different and joined Loveday’s class in the sports hall. The children had a great time and worked really hard on their physical skills.

We would like to wish all of our 1b followers a very happy bank holiday weekend, we hope you have a great time and hopefully the sun will make an appearance. See you all on Tuesday.

Ameenah enjoying the shaving foam

Katrina exploring the sheep

Raphael is enjoying the shaving foam up his arms.

Dale exploring the crunchy textures with the tractor.

Basheer had a go at milking the cow.

James was excellent at cathing the cows milk in the bucket.

Hope loved exploring the crunchy corn.

Dale using his skills to escape from the tunnel.

Lucas thoroughly enjoyed pulling the big rope.

Basheer has been exploring colourful wooden toys this week.

Raphael took some time out to relax and have stretches.
