Happy Mother’s Day

29th March 2019Clare Downey

Sunday is a very special day.  Mothering Sunday is a celebration of all of the amazing women who take the mothering role in a house hold.  Whether that be as a parent, carer, grandparent , our blog this week is dedicated to all of our wonderful 1B parents and carers.  In celebration of your hard work all year round, here is a poem from your 1B stars along with some of our favourite pictures.

Thank you for hugging and holding me tight,

For caring when I don’t sleep at night.

Thank you for feeding me my favourite food,

For knowing and understanding when I’m in a mood.

Thank you for all the things I am unaware that you do

For the nights and the days my needs have worried you.

Thanks for the way you make life so fun

For all the loving and caring you’ve done.

Thank you for being there Monday to Sunday,

I wish you a very happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother’s Day

from us all in 1B

Water babies

22nd March 2019Clare Downey

Happy Friday 1B followers! I hope you’ve all enjoyed a lovely week.  We have been busy as usual in 1B.  I’d like to thank all of our lovely parents for coming to chat and share children’s work during parents evening this week..  We had a very busy night, which is fantastic to see.  Thank you for all of the wonderful comments.  Our 1B team and I went home feeling very proud on Thursday night.

This week we have celebrated some amazing progress in hydro.  Lots of confidence growing in the water.  Our 1B water babies are all beginning to enjoy water on their face. Children are choosing to partially submerge their faces in the water!

Katrina is now holding on to the side of the hydro pool independently, allowing an adult to step back as she keeps herself up.  Morgan is showing confidence in a change of position and Lucas is allowing water to trickle over his face happily.   Ameenah loves to choose a spot in the pool where she feels safe and dip her mouth in!  She is also beginning to grow confidence in a change of position in the water!

We had a lovely year 6 helper this week!  Bradley wanted to come and experience life in 1B.  He was a terrific help to Hope.  They collected the register together and when they returned to class he massaged her feet in our peer massage session.  Hope has been very lucky to have such a kind friend today.

New best friends

Our class beanstalks are growing fast!  James is determined I am going to climb it first.  Look who has been helping to water them when we all go home……..Melvin!  Our class monkey is doing a great job!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  We look forward to seeing you on Monday!

A birthday and a beanstalk

15th March 2019Clare Downey

Hello 1B friends,

We have had another successful and very busy week in 1B.  We decided this week to plant our own beanstalks in class.  Following our Jack and the Beanstalk sensory story, we wondered how easy it would be to grow our own beanstalk. We planted seeds just like the ones Jack threw out of the window in the story.  We have been watering them every day and looking for any signs of a beanstalk growing.

James wondered if we could climb the Beanstalk to visit the giant’s castle!  We couldn’t decide who would be brave enough to climb to the top. Everyone enjoyed exploring the soil.  We quished it in our hands, walked on it, sat in it and Raphael had his feet in it!! Fantastic outdoor exploration.

Our blog story this week has a fairytale theme.  From planting a beanstalk to celebrating the 6th birthday of our very own princess, Katrina.  We had a wonderful day with Katrina celebrating her birthday!  She brought us some yummy cupcakes to share with her friends.  We all sang and signed happy birthday before helping her to blow out her candles.

happy Birthday Katrina

We hope you all have a lovely weekend! See you on Monday.

Busy time in 1B

1st March 2019Clare Downey

I hope you all had a lovely half term. Where did the last 2 weeks disappear to? We have been even busier than usual. We celebrated Chinese new year with a special assembly last week. We enjoyed watching and joining in with a dragon dance and tasted lots of lovely food. The smell or stir fried vegetables filled the school hall.
Back in class, 1B enjoyed some Chinese style messy play. We explored the delicious crunch of rice, noodles and Chinese crackers. Children were exploring with their hands as they watched the results of their own actions. Everyone showed fantastic levels of engagement. Learning through exploration was our focus. Everyone participated in their own wonderful way.

Lucas sprinkling rice

Ameenah loves sensory food play

Katrina tasted the crackers.

We have been learning to turn take with our friends in class this half term too. Lots of children are showing interest in sharing an activity with a friend. We observed some fantastic tracking when passing a ball. Children chose a friend to pass the ball to and passed the ball around our circle.

Our children love a sensory story. We shared a story about the beach. Children loved pressing switches to hear the beach songs. Everyone began to anticipate the cheeky seagull flying down to pinch the children’s ice cream!

Ameenah loved the sound of her pebble tube

Look at the starfish

the sea urchin is fun

Raphael loved the seagull flying about

peek a boo

Lovely to see our James back to school after his op! What a brave boy! He took Melvin the class monkey to share the experience. It was lovely to see Melvin getting his own ID wrist band just like James. He dressed in his scrubs for the op too!

Have a lovely weekend friends,

Metrocentre fun!

25th January 2019Clare Downey

Thank you to all of you kind parents and carers for your generous donations for our class trip this week.  We had such a fantastic day.  Children were an absolute credit to you all!  We began our trip all aboard the school mini bus. This is a great adventure for all children. We drove to the Metrocentre and parked in the coach park. This means we all got the chance to spot the trains over the pedestrian bridge before we even got there. Our first stop in the shopping centre was the Build a Bear store. We made our very own friend for class. Our 1B Monkey was named Melvin. We all had fun taking turns to press the special button to fill him up. We then took Melvin to the soft play area to allow everyone the chance to get out of chairs to play! Every single child enjoyed exploring the new surroundings.

After soft play, children were getting peckish. We enjoyed a treat at McDonalds. I could see how much everyone enjoyed the food. James bought his very own Muffin Milkshake from the Muffin shop to enjoy with his friends. After McDonalds we ventured on to the train. This experience, for lots of our children was a new one and one which some children had previously been upset by. Well, our entire class surpassed our wildest dreams. Every single child smiled and took in the whole experience. We were so delighted by their responses.  I know parents and carers will be super proud!

We loved our day out. It was fun filled!  Look out for our new class friend coming home with your child soon. One child per week will be chosen to take Melvin for the weekend. We look forward to sharing your weekend news with your friends in class.

Enjoy our photo’s.

I love my muffin milkshake!

The last time i rode the train i wasn’t happy…

look at how much I am enjoying the train now.

Choo choo Basheer

I am taking in everything around me!

I am sitting down enjoying the train with very little adult support!

I loved clapping on the train!

I feel so brave! First train ride…….watch out Mummy, I can’t wait to share this experience with you!!

I can drink during lunch with greater independence!

I loved pressing the button to stuff our class monkey!

I am so excited by the sound this machine makes when I press the button!

I loved drying the fur off our new class monkey.

I loved exploring with our new friend

I LOVE soft play

Tickles and giggles

McDonalds treat for everyone, thanks to my kind Mummy and Daddy!

Snow is falling all around us. Children playing, having fun!

18th January 2019Clare Downey

Happy Friday everyone.

I can’t believe another week has flown by.  We have had an exceptional week of effort and achievements.  Our focus this week has been physical targets.  We have all practised walking, sitting, balancing and moving with greater independence.  During Rebound therapy on Monday we celebrated our Hope’s progress.  She is now balancing independently on a roll!! This is a new skill which she has been working on this academic year.

On Tuesday we all enjoyed water play and Katrina stood at the table independently for 15 minutes.  She was enjoying her sensory play so much; she stood for extended lengths of time. Lucas loved playing in the water!!

On Wednesday we walked to visit Westgate College Café. Lots of children walked. Our Morgan walked with the support of reins for the first time out of school. He loved the freedom of walking with an adult and let us know when his legs were tired enough to want his buggy. He was our Friday Star of the Week for doing just that. Well done Morgan. We are so proud of you.

We also made some cards for some special people in school.  We are saying goodbye to one of our amazing nurses, Di this week and we also made our lovely nursery teacher, Sharon a card to let her know class 1B are thinking of her. The cards were made entirely by children’s interests. Lots of paper tearing and exploring created a great Art lesson.

Then the snow fell on Thursday and look what we got out………… the sledges!! Tremendous balancing skills from our children. James even dared to sledge down a small hill in our play area! Go James. Basheer and Ameenah LOVED exploring in the snow with their waterproofs on.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Happy New Year from 1B

11th January 2019Clare Downey

Happy New Year everyone. Welcome back to our 1B blog.  We look forward to sharing our hard work and achievements with you all throughout spring and summer terms too.

I’d like to begin our 2019 journey by sharing another fantastic resource offered by our very own school staff. Our pop up hair salon was popular amongst lots of our families.  Children who would usually struggle in a salon setting were offered a hair cut by familiar people in the safety of their school for a very reasonable donation.  I hope you parents and carers were happy with the beautiful results.  Here is our Morgan having a trim in class with the support of an Ipad and a familiar face.  Letters have gone home to offer the service again on Friday 8th Feb.  For a small donation, we hope to see lots of you again at our next pop up salon.

This week in 1B we all flew into 2019 with a thirst for achievement. Children will be exhausted this Friday after a very physical week.  Hope has been standing and walking at every given opportunity.  She is walking independently to collect the register for class. Katrina is becoming so confident standing whenever she can. James is using his standing frame at every given opportunity. He is also working hard during our Jabadao sessions.  He can now use his fantastic upper body strength to climb on to a body board independently.  Basheer is showing great progress in his exploration skills,  enjoying a range of textures when making play dough.

Our Dale and Lucas are making us proud, working and playing with more focus at a table and on the floor with the support of an adult.

Well done to Ameenah for being our star of the week.  We are so proud of you for eating independently!!

Well done to our 1B stars.  We are all making progress pursuing our personal learning goals.

Have a great weekend!

Polar Express

21st December 2018Clare Downey

This week our class was magically transformed into the Polar Express.  All children were given a golden ticket to board the train as it passed through 1B.  It was lovely to see so many  families join us on our journey.  We had hot chocolate and snacks before listening to personalised messages from Santa himself.
2 of our passengers enjoyed showing off their water skills to family in our hydrotherapy pool. We also attempted to revisit our class performance of ‘White Christmas’.   It was heart warming to see how proud you all were, seeing your 1B stars shine.

We wish you a very merry Christmas and peace and happiness in 2019!

From all 1B staff
