Party Time

18th December 2018Clare Downey

Yesterday we had a wonderful day at our Christmas party. In the morning we went into the School Hall with our friends from KS1 where we joined in with lots of party games such as Christmas corners, musical statues and musical bumps. We went back to class for a quick snack and then we went back into the Hall to sing Christmas songs with different props.

In the afternoon we sang beautiful songs around the smart board “fire” whilst we waited for a special visitor, Santa Claus himself. We sat around the Christmas tree and Santa gave us each a present. We then enjoyed some yummy food. What a busy day.

Fun at Christmas

18th December 2018Clare Downey

We continue to get involved in so many different Christmas activities. We introduced the children to the naughty class elf and every day he gets up to something naughty! He’s taken to hiding in different places, usually the freezer. What a silly elf. We have been exploring different materials and have used some of them to make sensory bottles instead of Christmas cards. They will be coming home soon in time to display at home for Christmas.

Meeting the Real Santa Claus

14th December 2018Clare Downey

Yesterday we all went out of school for our Christmas visit to meet Santa Claus as we heard he was visiting Dobbie’s Garden Centre. When we arrived we had a look around at the beautiful sights and sounds and explored some of the interactive soft toys. We visited the Christmas Tree forest and even got a bit lost in it! We went outside to explore the little cabins before coming inside to the Enchanted Forest where Santa was waiting in his Grotto.

Santa met each child, talked and sang to them in turn and then gave them a present. What a wonderful Santa Claus. He was so impressed with our children and they even bought a tear to his eye.

After meeting Santa Claus we went to have lunch in the restaurant. We had a table reserved for us and we enjoyed a meal together of lots of different foods. Our children were amazing throughout the whole visit and lots of people in the Garden Centre commented on how wonderful they were.

The Farm Comes To Hadrian School

13th December 2018Clare Downey

On Tuesday, our class went into the School Hall and to our surprise we saw different farm animals! We were able to look at, listen to, feed and touch the different animals. We were amazed at the size of the sheep and how hungry they were. The chicken even sat on James’ shoulder.

What a wonderful surprise for all of our wonderful children.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

6th December 2018Clare Downey

We have been decorating our room for Christmas and it’s looking lovely. The children helped to put up the tree and then add the decorations. This week we have been exploring a Christmas themed Treasure Basket which has lots of different things to explore using all of our senses. We’ve got so much going on at the moment so look out for more blogs.

Our Visit to Fenwicks Window

3rd December 2018Clare Downey

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful visit into Newcastle to see Fenwicks window which is themed around “The Snowman”. We took a lovely big green minibus and luckily managed to park just off Northumberland Street, just a short walk away from Fenwicks. We enjoyed walking down Northumberland Street looking at the mini rides, giant snow globe and other wonderful sights and sounds. We then walked the length of the window looking at the scenes from the story. It was quite cold but we were well wrapped up.

When we got back to school we watched a scene from the story whilst enjoying hot chocolate. What a wonderful morning!

Our Halloween Social Event

21st November 2018Clare Downey

Celebrating Halloween

We know this happened some time ago but at the time we couldn’t get onto our Blog so we’ve put it on now!

We enjoyed our first “Get Together” with our parents and carers in 1B which we themed around Halloween. We decorated both the indoors and outdoors with the children and leading up to the event we had been engaged in lots of different Halloween based activities. On the afternoon, we had a wonderful range of different activities for children and their families to get involved in and it was fantastic to see so many family and friends join us. We enjoyed sensory activities, lights and sounds, pumpkin carving and we even had a spooky ghost train to explore outside. We all came together for a spooky song called “the Witches of Halloween” before enjoying a tasty Halloween tea. It was a fantastic atmosphere and such a great way of us getting to know our families and also for families to get to know us and also each other.

Look at what we can do!

20th November 2018Clare Downey

Our children continue to go from strength to strength in the Hydro Pool. All of the children are working on their own targets within the Hadrian School Water Skills Programme and are making lovely progress. Our sessions tend to follow a simple format where we start the session with a  song called “Who’s in the Pool today?” which is a great opportunity for some good communication between the children. We have a song choosing board using symbols for children to choose favourite songs using various props. We will then work with each child on their own individual targets with the different levels. We then come together to sing our goodbye song.

If you would like to know more about what we do and the reasoning behind it, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Clare and the 1B Team.

Children in Need

20th November 2018Clare Downey

Last Friday, we celebrated Children in Need throughout the whole school. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and carers who donated money and also for dressing up your children for the day. They looked amazing. We were involved in a range of different activities during the day and at 1.15pm we all went into the school hall to meet someone very special, the real Pudsey Bear! We sang special bear songs for Pudsey and also danced with him. What a great day and I know we raised a good amount of money too, more than in previous years.

Many Thanks for us all.

Making Poppies

9th November 2018Clare Downey

We have hit the ground running this week after half term.  What a great week to begin Autumn 2.

Our new addition Ameenah has settled into class brilliantly.  She is finding new friends and loving exploring our sensory based curriculum.

This week we’ve been exploring different ways to make poppies for next week’s remembrance assembly.  Using each of our children’s individual interests and preferences we made a poppy with each child.  Katrina loved making her poppies with scrunched up paper.  Hope, Basheer and Ameenah shared the water tray, filling their very own sensory bottles with red water and special glitter to represent their poppies.

James came into school this week with his super duper new wheelchair.  It was clear he had been part of the design team.  WOW! Black trains on both the wheels AND the tray with light that shine when he moves!  He was the envy of the school.  We’ll share some photo’s of his new chariot in our next blog.

Raphael has been working very hard in his exploration work.  He is reaching out to explore a range of textures in sensory food exploration. Well done Raphael.

.

Well done to Basheer for being 1B star of the week for his confidence in the hydro pool.  He is now beginning to stand independently!  Well done Basheer.

Have a great weekend everyone.
