Its the end of half term !!

18th February 2022Elaine Quinn

What a fun filled week we have had this week! We have been out and about and continued with all our hard work telling the time and learning about space.

On Monday we started learning about the stars in space and we made our own constellations. We found out that stars are balls of gas, just like the sun. Another interesting fact that we found out was that the stars in the sky look so small because they are very far away from the Earth.

This week we were so lucky to go over to Sunderland to play in a tennis tournament. We had a range of different activities to complete in a set amount of time and it helped us develop lots of different skills. We all tried our best at every activity and did our school proud.

Finally, in our thrive lesson this week we did a lot of activities based around being silly. We had a silly dance party and played a game of don’t show your teeth. This was such a lovely afternoon as we learnt that it is okay to be silly sometimes and that it is nothing to be embarrassed about.

We  hope you all have a lovely half term holidays and stay safe.

Weekly update !

11th February 2022Elaine Quinn

What a wonderful week we have had. We have continued to learn about the Moon and the phases it goes through. This was a very tricky lesson, however we were able to remember that a waxing Moon means it is going and a Waning Moon means that it is getting smaller before it then turns into a New Moon. To help us understand this process, we used biscuits to show the different stages the Moon goes through.

As we have become so confident at matching analogue and digital times, some of us have been learning to write the time on a digital clock. We were really good at this and it helped us practice our number formation. Some of us started to convert analogue times to digital times and vise versa which we all did independently and very confidently.

In art this week we have created our own Moon prints using shaving foam and paint. This was a great sensory activity for us all and we made some amazing Moon prints. We also made Moons using tin foil. We scrunched up the tin foil and dabbed it into paints and then across our paper to create different textures.

Finally, this week we went out into the Yurt, which we always love. In the morning we did a lovely yoga story. We got ourselves prepared for going to space and went on an amazing adventure. In the afternoon we made some lovely Valentines day cards for our loved ones.

Chinese New Year !

4th February 2022Elaine Quinn

What another amazing week we have had! This week was the start of Chinese New Year, so we got dressed up in some colourful Chinese outfits and performed a dragon dance in front of the whole school. We all did such an amazing job and at the end of the assembly some of us even tried some different Chinese food.

In Maths, we have continued to learn how to tell the time. We have become such amazing time tellers and we can now match analogue and digital times shown on a clock.

In English we have been learning about the 7 different continents. We are now so confident in naming them biggest to smallest. This week we have gathered into small groups and each learnt about a different continent. Firstly, we watch some fact file videos and made notes of different facts that we had heard. We then began to make our own fact file videos and later used them to do some Early writing sentences in our books. What a clever bunch we are !

In science and Art this week we have focused on the Moon. In our science lesson we made another fact file about the moon and learnt so many interesting facts about it. One fact that we learnt was that the moon is a natural satellite that orbits the Earth! Following on from this, we then took a trip outside to find a variety of different rocks that we could use for our sculptures. We then came back to class and used clay to create sculptures of the moon. It was important that we used different tools to make craters in our sculptures so they looked just like the Moon.

In Thrive this week, we started off the session once again with a lovely stretch to some relaxing music. We are getting really good at this and it helps start the session off in a positive way. We then got into groups of 3 and worked on our communication and turn taking skills through the use of Lego therapy. This was very important as we were all designated a special role and had to make sure that we listened to the correct friend in order to create a Lego model.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

A Space filled week

28th January 2022Elaine Quinn

This week in science  we learnt different facts about the sun. We watched a very interesting video which told us many different facts. Once we had watched the video, we geared up and prepared ourselves for a trip to space to see the sun. We made a lovely video and we recalled different facts that we had learnt.

In our art lessons we have been experimenting  different ways to mix colours. With these different mixing techniques, we made different plants that create our solar system. We made some lovely different patterns using marbling, bubble blowing and printing.

In our Thrive lesson this week, we started off with some 5 finger breathing to relax our bodies. We then did a lovely stretching routine. Then we also played some lovely turn taking games and at the end  had a lovely play with the rest of the toys in the thrive room.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

This week in PE we have been practicing our aiming and throwing skills. We are getting really good at this and will continue to flourish through the term.

We have also been learning the time in class and we can confidently identify o’clock and we are now working on half past the hour.

We have also learnt some very interesting facts about space and we looked at subheadings and grouped the sentences to the correct sub headings.

We have also started back at Sir Charles Parsons for our weekly swim. This week we have been practicing putting our heads under the water to retrieve an item off the floor.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

Our first full week back!

14th January 2022Elaine Quinn

This week we have continued our topic of space. In English we have looked at fiction and non-fiction texts and discussed the differences between them.

In our science this week, we have discussed the Earth. We now know what the equator is and we know that the countries the closest to the equator are the hottest  and the countries furthest away are the coldest.

In our Art, we ripped up different blue and green tissue paper to make our own Earth. We also used the tips of paint brushes to paint green and blue dots where the Land and Sea were.

On Thursday we had a lovely time in the Thrive room. We talked about how we were feeling using the different types of weather. We then got into pairs and drew one another and we described each other and said what was special about one another. After the hard work we then got to have a lovely play.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

Happy New Year !

7th January 2022Elaine Quinn

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you all have had an amazing start to the year.

This week, we have settled back into our school routine again and we have kickstarted the year with a bang.

On Wednesday, we had a lot of social time and had many discussions with our friends and teachers about what we got up to in our Christmas holidays. We also had a session in the Library and we all looked at and read different books, which we always love to do. As it was New Year, we all talked about the meaning of  New Years resolutions and some of us even set our own!

On Thursday, we were introduced to our new Topic which is Space. We all discussed the different things that we already knew about space and we then thought about what we would also like to find our about it. We would also like to say  very big thankyou to those who have purchased things off our amazon wish list, which will help to make our topic work even more interesting !

In the afternoon we then went into the thrive room and we all sat and discussed different things that make us special. We also enjoyed a lot of social time in the thrive room with our friends and plays table football and dressing up games.

On Friday, we had a lovely chilled day and watched a few movies. We also spent the afternoon doing some Fine motor skill work and some colouring in.

We cannot wait to be back to start swimming again at Sir Charles Parsons again on Tuesday.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

IT’S CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!

17th December 2021Elaine Quinn

Christmas is finally here in Hadrian school and what an amazing week it has been!

To kick start the week we went to watch the Christmas panto with all of our friends and we had such a good laugh! In the afternoon we then had our Christmas party which was filled full of games, dancing and smiles all round !

On Tuesday we all gathered round the table and ate our Christmas dinner together. It was very tasty and we loved puling the crackers and reading our our jokes! We then headed outside and joined all our friends at school for some Christmas carols. Some of us were very brave and sang on the microphone for everyone to hear!

On Wednesday we came into school to find special train tickets in our pockets for a ride on the Polar Express! We then boarded the train and had a very special breakfast. We then watched the Polar Express movie as we sat on bean bags, eating popcorn and other tasty treats.

On Thursday we all came to school dressed up as Elves and did a sponsored horse ride to raise money for a hydrotherapy pool. We were joined by Jo Jingle in the morning who kickstarted the whole school off with a warm up dance! We honestly loved going Horse riding dressed up as elves and we spent the last lesson trotting on our horses.

We would like to say a big thankyou to Pegasus Horse riding centre for making us feel so welcome and safe while riding. Our confidence around and on horses has really shone this term and we have loved every minute of it.

Finally, we hope that you all have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Stay safe and we cannot wait to be back with you all in the new year! Bring on 2022!

The Christmas build up !

10th December 2021Elaine Quinn

This week we have continued the Christmas festivities. To kick the week off we went to the South Tyneside cinema to watch the Grinch. We all found it hilarious and this inspired us to make a Grinch to go on our classroom door.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to go back into our Hydro pool again. We had such a splash and danced to some great tunes.

As well as this, we also had a very special visitor in school this week. Lawrence from Seven stories read us some amazing stories and did some really fun activities with us. We created a river with some lycra and pretended to throw the stickman across the river. We also decorated our own baubles and then hung them up to make our very own tree.

We are coming to the end of our Horse riding lessons and we have one week left and next week we are going dressed up as elves. We had an amazing lesson again and we did lot more trotting and our listening skills have improved so much !!

As it’s Christmas jumper day, we have all come dressed for the occasion.

We cannot wait to come back next week, as we have such a festive week planned !!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

Christmas has began !

3rd December 2021Elaine Quinn

This week we kickstarted the week in the Yurt, we had a lovely party in there for Amna’s birthday and we even got to eat our dinners in there too. We also had a special visit from a very important man. We all got lovely chocolates to take home from Santa. How lucky are we !!

On Tuesday we had our weekly baking session. This week we made snowflake shortbread biscuits! They were so tasty and we had so much fun making them !

As it’s now December we have started our advent calendar and we will each get a turn at getting a chocolate and picking a story each morning. We also have a very cheeky elf in our class that likes to hiding different places every morning. One morning we even found him eating all our biscuits out on the tin. What a naughty elf !!

On Thursday we went for our weekly Horse riding lessons. All the horses were dressed all festive and we learnt some new tricks on our horses! We are all very excited to dress up as Elves on the 16th for our sponsored elf ride.

That’s all for this week, we hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.
