Christmas is a time…

16th December 2022Fran Kennedy

What a fabulous couple of weeks we have had here in Class 5. We have enjoyed a slightly more relaxed timetable over the past couple of weeks and have been very busy making lots of Christmas crafts and special surprises ready to take home. We have continued with our therapies and have still enjoyed Rebound and, when available, the hydro pool.

The Children also enjoyed their Christmas trip out last week and everyone was impeccably behaved, we were so proud of every single one of them. They handled new experiences, such as the school bus, with great ease. We can already see a difference in them all with how well they are handling transitions and change of routine.

I’m sure it goes without saying how amazing our little legends were in our Christmas performance yesterday and we were all very emotional at just how far they have come in such a short space of time. They all shone so bright.

Dates to remember

Monday 19th – Christmas Party. You are welcome to send your child in with their party clothes on ready or send it in with them on the bus and we will be happy to get them changed before the party. Please look out on Class dojo for more information.

Tuesday 20th – Christmas jumper and dinner day. We will be going outside in the afternoon to sing some Christmas carols as a full school so please could you send into school warm clothes for your child.

Friday 23rd – School Christmas nativity (pm)

We break up for our Christmas holidays on Friday 23rd of December and return to school on Monday the 9th of January.

We also celebrated our Jaxson’s 5th Birthday last Thursday with a little party on Friday,

Our Christmas outing

We have played with our candy cane slime

Enjoyed our first every multi-cultural event.

And explored the snow.

Have a lovely weekend

Exploring Autumn

25th November 2022Fran Kennedy

What another fantastic week we have had here in Class 5. We have enjoyed exploring our caterpillar garden this week and used the time to do a wildlife hunt to find various autumnal items. Unfortunately a squirrel was not to be found but we are still hopeful we may see one in other parts of our school. The caterpillar garden has a host of different outdoor learning opportunities, we have a nature tunnel, a fire pit and a caravan for the children to use and experience.

We have also enjoyed messy play with spaghetti, we enjoyed touching, feeling and tasting the spaghetti, it went down a storm!  The children are becoming more resilient to trying new textures and experiences in class and we really couldn’t be prouder.

Intensive Interaction happens all day every day in class and this brings so much more in the way of communication. Making relationships with the adults and our friends is very important to us so we like to have as much time as possible building bonds with each other.

We begin our countdown to Christmas in school next week with lots of fantastic festivities planned, please keep a look out for important dates for your diary.

Enjoy your weekend

Fran and the team

Messy is always best…

18th November 2022Fran Kennedy

What a busy week we have had here in class 5. Not only have we been working hard during rebound therapy, sensory exploration and messy play but we also ventured into our soft play centre where the children had lots of fun exploring the marvellous equipment the soft play has to offer.

We have also explored and talked about Pudsey bear in class this week creating our very own ‘potato Pudsey’ to be judged in our weekly assembly. The children worked so hard using different tools to paint the potato and we loved getting very messy with the paint. We really created a masterpiece!

We have also been working very hard with our visual timetable and our children are learning to check their own timetables and follow their activity system with varied levels of support. This also prepares our children for life. They are becoming familiar with the signs and symbols used within our daily routine and this in itself is a huge deal to enhance their communication.

We hope you have a lovely weekend

Fran and the team

A week full of fun and frolics.

11th November 2022Fran Kennedy

We have had another action packed week here in school and we have begun to settle in to our new daily routines. We have managed a lot more transitions around school this week, with our little legends becoming more settled and accepting of their new school.

This week we have made our own class poppies for Remembrance Day and explored the red and black colours that a poppy is made up of, the children thoroughly enjoyed gluing and sticking crape paper onto our poppies to create fabulous flowers of remembrance.

We also explored the ingredients that are used to make playdough and had a very fun afternoon exploring flour and water and feeling the textures in our hands. We got very messy and had the most fun. We have also had fun with dough disco and zips and buttons in our fine motor lesson.

This week we were so lucky to have the opportunity to explore a fire engine as West Denton Fire Station kindly brought their appliance for all of our children to explore. They have been so kind and raised a considerable amount of money for our school to buy us a new gantry which we require in a class.

Dates to remember

Children in Need 18th of November. Children can come to school in PJ’s or non-school uniform.

Our very first week…eventually!

4th November 2022Fran Kennedy

Wow, what a first week we have had here in class 5. We are really proud of how well our little legends have settled into their new class and school. We have spent this week getting to know each other and our surroundings and have explored lots of different areas within school.

We have been to the Sensory Integration Room for a swing and had a lovely time on the heated water bed, we have explored the Thrive room where we played with the many different toy’s and the fabulous home corner, we have explored our adventure playground where we had the chance to have a run around and let off some steam, we have also explored our quad area and had fun on the climbing frame and played with the various cars and bikes we have. We have also enjoyed exploring the many lovely things we have in our classroom including the sensory mood table, the interactive smart board, the trampette, and the mangle for when we have needed a squash and a squeeze and the tuff tray where we created our very own fireworks with chalks, pipe cleaners, tissue paper and pompoms. As well as the Rebound Centre and the hydro pool where we were blown away by all of the confidence and independence that our fabulous children showed.

This week we have also begun to introduce signs and symbols used within our daily routines and getting used to transitions throughout the day. We have enjoyed relaxation and have especially enjoyed the many songs we have listen to including our relaxation song.

No wonder we have had to have a little nap in the afternoon after all of that, we have never stopped and have had the best first week here in our new class. We hope that you are all happy and settled in the knowledge that your amazing children have transitioned into their new class with no stress or confusion and have accepted their new daily routines with ease.

We hope you have the most amazing weekend and look forward to doing it all again next week.

Fran, Vikki and Yasmin
