Happy New Year

29th January 2020Chris Rollings

Happy New Year!

I’m glad to report that I am now back full time and hoping to remain fit and healthy for 2020! There is so much news to catch up with from  school and beyond. Last week we all enjoyed a Burns Ceilidh with the school band performing brilliantly. This week we celebrated the Chinese New Year with guests from the Chinese community who were amazed at our wonderful children. They invited me to their celebrations last night at The Palace Gardens and presented school with a cheque for £1,000 which is so generous. Before Christmas we were also overwhelmed with support from so many friends of Hadrian School including the High Street Group, Blakelaw Social Club, Clarke Mairs Solicitors, Jeremy Beecham, The Botanist and many more, we are so grateful to one and all.

Thanks also to our friends from Stagecoach for donating a bus to school. It has now been fitted with heating and electricity and is being put to great use already for story telling, role play, Makaton Signing Club and much more.

We hope to see many of you here at school for a social evening of fun and song on Thursday 13th February, tickets £1 available from school now.

Thursday 26th March will be our annual Parent’s Evening, however, you don’t need to wait until then to pop in and have a chat about your child’s progress and wellbeing in school, it will be great to see you whenever you can make it in.

Finally, I just want to take a moment to echo all the good wishes and support for Aaron’s family as they, and we, come to terms with the loss of this much loved little boy. As yet we have no details of his funeral but we will let you know as soon as we do so you can join us and pay your respects if you so wish.

I hope you are all enjoying catching up with your class Blogs, well done to the Hadrian Team for all they do for your children each and every day.

Best wishes, Chris

Hello!

19th September 2019Chris Rollings

Hello everyone and a belated welcome to our new school year!

I’m sure many of you will have heard that I’m not in school at the moment but am hoping to return in the very near future.  I made it back for the first day of term but then ended up in hospital for a few days and am now convalescing at home.  I am well on the way to recovery and am in daily contact with Marian to keep in touch with everything that is happening in school.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon and meeting all our new pupils and their families.

I hope everyone had a good summer break and managed to relax and recharge after our hectic year last year.

The coming year will hopefully be an exciting one with several events and activities planned for pupils, staff and families past and present, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Hadrian School.  Our first pupils crossed the threshold of the newly formed school on Monday 6th September 1999 after a big reorganisation of special education throughout the city of Newcastle.  What a 20 years it has been!!  We have some fantastic memories of our journey over the years and have seen huge changes in our buildings, grounds and facilities as we constantly strive to improve and provide the best of everything for our children. To this date we have taught, nurtured, supported, encouraged and loved a total of 703 children!  We have watched as many come into Nursery tearful and fearful on their first day and then leave us at the end of Year 6 confident, happy young people ready for the next stage of their journey through life.

We have also had some very sad and difficult times when much loved children and staff have died, some after hard fought battles through life and some unexpectedly and tragically.  On this note we are going to hold a special Remembrance Assembly at 1.45pm on Monday 11th November 2019 to remember these children, friends and colleagues.  We would like to invite the families of any of the Hadrian children and staff who have died since our opening to come to this assembly to share the afternoon with us.  We will let you know more details nearer the time.

Please put the following dates in your diaries as we would like to welcome as many friends and families as possible to our upcoming events:

Thursday 3rd October at 9.30am    –         Coffee Morning

Thursday 10th October at 6.00pm    –       Pie and Pea Supper

Tuesday 5th November at 6.00pm    –      Bonfire Party

Thursday 7th November at 7.00pm    –     Comedy of Errors at Northern Stage

Monday 11th November at 1.45pm    –    Remembrance Assembly

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact school.

Looking forward to catching up with you all soon,

Best wishes, Chris

Happy Easter

5th April 2019Chris Rollings

Well what another fantastic term and what a way to end with a ceilidh and a wonderful Easter Bonnet Parade around our school grounds in aid of the Sunshine Fund. Many thanks to all of those who sponsored this event at short notice, we will give you the final total after Easter but it will be in the hundreds of pounds!! I hope you have all enjoyed reading the Hadrian Herald and I’m sure the next edition will capture some of the memories from this week including our fantastic Year 5 dancers who performed at the City Hall on Wednesday. Next term promises to be even busier with lots of summer treats, Family Fun Day on the 6th July, Open Day for the Rebound Therapy Centre, the re-launch of The Friends of Hadrian at 5:00pm on Tuesday 30th April, plans for our 20th Anniversary, Science & D & T week, Arts Festival and much, much more!! Please remember to take advantage of our school facilities and to book up out of hours therapy sessions, or the Sports Hall and Rebound Centre for your children’s parties.

I hope you all enjoy the time off with your family and friends and we look forward to seeing your children back in school on Tuesday 23rd April.

Best wishes, Chris

Welcome back and Happy New Year

11th January 2019Chris Rollings

I hope you have all enjoyed a wonderful holiday with family and friends and are ready for the joys of the Spring Term? Did you all catch up with the Hadrian Herald? Many thanks to all who contributed to another bumper edition and we are already busy planning for the next edition which will be full of news of our new adventures and plans for the new year.

Can I make a last plea for any parent/carers interested in becoming a Parent Governor at Hadrian to contact me by Monday 14th January at the latest. We have two vacancies and as we speak two interested parents so if you are keen to be on board this is your last opportunity to do so. Please email me with your interest at chris.rollings@hadrian.newcastle.sch.uk

Could you also please let school know if you have changed mobile numbers over the holiday or if any medical details for medication etc. need updating.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes, Chris

End of Year Thoughts

21st December 2018Chris Rollings

As we approach the last days of 2018 I’d like to reflect on the amazing achievements Hadrian School has experienced throughout the last twelve months.

Two of the main highlights of the year have to be our fantastic fourth consecutive ‘Outstanding’ OfSTED Inspection and the opening of our much longed for Rob Armstrong Rebound Therapy Centre, both of which happened in the space of one week in February!  To say we spent the February half term holiday in a bubble of exhaustion, elation and excitement is a bit of an understatement!   We are indebted to Rob and the many, many other people who contributed to the planning and funding of the Rebound Centre and who continue to support us in so many ways.  If you haven’t already seen this amazing facility please make a note in your diary to come in to one of our Viewing Days in February.

Aside from these two events we have continued to provide the very best opportunities for our children from sporting events both in and out of school, arts projects including FLOW, the Shakespeare in Schools Festival at Northern Stage, sensory sessions, visits into the local and wider community, visitors into school including animal handlers, story tellers, theatre and pantomime companies and Pudsey Bear to mention but a few.

Hopefully you will have received the autumn edition of the Hadrian Herald this week which will highlight some of the above mentioned events along with many other activities our children have been involved in this term.

As you will know we also received national coverage due to the unfortunate vandalism we suffered earlier in the year.  Whilst this was a very distressing event for everyone concerned, we have managed to put it all behind us due to the overwhelming support we have received from our own friends and families as well as complete strangers.  We have all been touched and humbled by this universal show of encouragement and we are very grateful to each and every one of you.  We must also say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the kindness people have shown during the run up to Christmas – we have been inundated with gifts and selection boxes for all the children.  As you will appreciate, as our budget is extremely tight these days, it is good to know that Santa’s purse is always open and every child has received a gift.

Many thanks to everyone who attended our Christmas Show last Friday – I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.  Our children and staff never cease to amaze me with their creativity and commitment to making the most of every single opportunity.

As we begin to look forward into 2019 we are starting out on plans for our next big dream – a new hydrotherapy pool which we hope will eventually be built adjacent to the Rob Armstrong Rebound Therapy Centre.  We know this will be a huge undertaking and will be years in the planning but…….. as the song says, ‘If you don’t have a dream……. how you gonna have a dream come true?’

Merry Christmas one and all and very best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Chris

Merry Christmas

10th December 2018Chris Rollings

Many thanks to all our friends and families who came to our Christmas Fayre on Friday evening.  It was lovely to see so many people there and to welcome lots of old friends as well as many new ones.  We hope everyone had a good time.  We raised an amazing £842, and this amount will increase once we add in the proceeds from our main raffle which is to be drawn on Wednesday 19th December.  If you don’t yet have any tickets and would like some, please contact Pauline Turner at school.

Rehearsals are now well under way for our Christmas Show on Friday morning (14th at 10.00am) and it would be lovely to see as many friends and families there as possible.  It is the first Christmas Show we have had since 2015 because of all our building works, so we’re hoping it will be one to remember!

The Autumn edition of our Hadrian Herald is at the printers as we speak so please look out for it coming home in your child’s school bag during the last week of term.

Once again I’d like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to the staff and volunteers who help make Hadrian School tick.  The commitment and dedication they give to providing the best of everything for our children is commendable and very much appreciated.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

Best wishes,

Chris
