We thought you would like to see how well we have been doing in our Rebound Therapy sessions and just how much we have moved along in our skills. We are all working within the Rebound Therapy Assessment and some of us have already received certificates. We are also using these sessions to help with our communication skills, requesting ‘more’ and being able to stop when asked.
Wow just look at how amazing we now are with our football skills. Graham, our football coach, has been with us for 3 weeks and will be helping us right up until the summer holidays. He has been helping to teach us how to throw, bounce, catch and kick balls. He has also been showing us some special tricks to practice. At the beginning we found it hard to listen as we really just wanted to run around with the ball but now we can listen to instructions and try putting them into practice. What a wonderful time we are having and would like to say a huge thank you to Graham for his support.
What a fabulous time we had last Thursday on our trip out to Horsley Woods and Park. We started the day off with a lovely long walk through the woods, exploring the nature and natural items along the way. We found some bird feathers, stopped to look at flowers, checked out the insects in the bark chippings, played with sticks and splashed through some big muddy puddles. It was a good job we all had waterproofs and wellies on! After our lunch we went to the park and were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves. We played on swings, slides, roundabouts and just look at how adventurous some of us became. After all that fun we were rather tired and headed back to school for a drink and snack before home time.
This half term our new topic will be ‘Natural Things’. To start off our topic we have been exploring the outdoor areas around school and looking for lots of different natural objects. We have been looking for things with different textures, shapes, sizes, colours that we can feel, smell and also things that we can use to create some art pieces. It’s great fun being outdoors and our collecting is coming along nicely.
Also this week the children have had great fun exploring the new hospital which we had set up in the classroom. It has lots of pretend equipment, dressing up clothes and even a reception waiting area with magazines and book to read. We are hoping that this experience will help some of our children who find hospital visits a bit tricky to deal with.
Well what a fun afternoon we had on Thursday when our parents came into class to help us with some Easter celebrations. We had some Easter songs and dancing around the Smartboard before we ventured outside for our Easter egg hunt. We all had a pair of bunny ears and a basket to help with our hunt. When we were finished outside we came back to the classroom for a special Easter snack with cakes and scones which we had made in the morning. It really was a lovely afternoon and was great to see so many parents who were able to attend. Thank you for your kind support and we hope you all have a wonderful Easter.
What a fabulous time we had on Tuesday morning at Jesmond Dene. The sun was shining as we boarded the bus and heading off to the park. We had a walk along the river where we saw lots of ducks and birds. As we walked through the paths of the Dene we passed lots of people walking their dogs, we explored in the woodlands and leaves as well as climbing some trees. After all that we were in need of a rest and decided to head over to the cafe for a drink and snack. Once we had recharged our batteries we had a look through the fence at a goat and rabbit because unfortunately Pets Corner was shut but at least we saw some animals and that gave us a little bit longer in the park. As you can see by the photos we had great fun exploring the park, swinging, climbing and sliding.
What a special and exciting week we have had celebrating National Reflection Day. We have been exploring the colour yellow in lots of ways including painting, planting daffodils, colouring in pictures, and using yellow balls and hula hoops in both P.E. and hydro. We also helped to decorate the Caterpillar Garden with some of the beautiful decorations we had made in class and then had a wonderful time exploring around and seeing what other children in school had made. Of course we have also made the most of the beautiful sunshine and took lots of our learning outdoors. We hope you all have a lovely weekend and that the sun keeps shining.
We had a wonderful time yesterday celebrating St Patrick’s Day. We started the celebrations at Breakfast Club where we we cut out Shamrock shapes for our toast.
In PE we played some Irish music and danced around the School Hall. We had a lovely cool down to some relaxing Clannad music.
In the afternoon we made some green playdough which went everywhere! We also iced some cakes with green icing and put Irish themed toppers on.
We set the table with flags, paper chains and paper shamrocks and enjoyed a little tea party. We also watched a range of songs on the Smart Board throughout the day.
What a great day we had.

What an amazing week we had celebrating World book Day. We didn’t only spend 1 day celebrating but a whole week! Our theme for our special week was Peter Pan. To start off we had a fabulous sensory story of Peter Pan. There were lots of different props, music, videos and some special fairy dust to sprinkle over us all. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to visit the Yurt which had been transformed into the Darling children’s bedroom with lots of toys and books for us to explore. On Thursday we all got dressed up as characters from books, films or wore our pajama’s for World Book Day. In the morning we had great fun practicing our animal moves from the ‘Animal Boogie’ song before we went to the sports hall to join a special dance session which was led by Jo from Dance Roxs. Everyone had a really good boogie and showed off their dance skills. In the afternoon we had a special assembly with a cat walk of costumes, the Masked Reader, stories and lots of songs. Then on Friday we got to visit Neverland in the music studio. WOW it was beautiful, full of bright, twinkling lights, bubbles, leaves, tents and magical music. We had an amazing sensory exploration. Well what can we say other than what an amazing and very busy week we have had, think we might all need a rest over the weekend!
What a wonderful Valentine’s Day we had in school. We used pink tissue paper and red paint which we dipped our hands in to make beautiful cards to send home to our mums and dads. In the afternoon we had a beautiful party with heart shaped biscuits we had made ourselves, heart shaped plates and cups and lots of our favourite foods as well as some relaxing music. We also helped Ibrahim to celebrate the memory of his brother Marcus and lit some candles. On Tuesday Ibrahim’s mum sent in a gorgeous cake so we had another celebration in the afternoon.
We thought you might like to see some photos of how much our choosing and pouring skills have improved during our breakfast club. Everyone gets to chose from cereal, toast or yoghurt by using our symbols and can pour their own into bowls. We can now also, using small jugs, pour our choice of drink into our own cups. Just look at how good we are getting!
We hope you all have a great half term holiday and look forward to see the children after their break.
