News From The Giggling Googlers

28th February 2021June Ball

What a busy first week back. We are particularly delighted that we have James and Diana back with us. They both received a Weekly Achiever’s certificate for settling back into school so well.

We have been exploring the role of a Police Officer as part of our Humanities work. James received a medal for his excellent Police work.

Police Officer Thompson

We also set up two shops (Morrisons and Asda) We wrote shopping lists in our English lesson and then took our money to buy items.(we are learning all about money in Maths)

In Science we are learning all about healthy eating. We each made a plate of healthy and unhealthy foods. After we had made our plates we chose healthy foods to eat at snack time.

We continue to work on our Art pieces exploring the Four Seasons. We added some wonderful bits to our Summer piece. We have now taken down Winter from outside our door and we have replaced it with our Spring one. When the display is complete we will take a photograph of it to show you. We have a great plan for the 4 pieces which we will share with you soon.

We’re looking forward to World Book Day/Week next week.

Year 3 Team.

Sledging Fun!

12th February 2021June Ball

We have really made the most of the snowy weather this week, particularly sledging on our very own mini ski slope. How wonderful to go out of our back door straight onto the slope for some sledging fun. We used a big red tray, shopping bags and a proper sledge to slide down the hill. We were super brave and absolutely loved it. We didn’t mind the cold as we had the best time ever!

We hope you enjoy getting out in the snow. it won’t be here for long.

The Year of the Ox

12th February 2021June Ball

Today and yesterday we celebrated Chinese New Year and we’ve had a great time exploring different aspects. We watched a short video where two children explained how they celebrate Chinese New Year. We also revisited a favourite song Kong Hei Fatt Choy.

We made Chinese Lanterns and later dressed in beautiful Chinese clothes. We watched a Dragon dance and met our own Brian, the Lion. We even danced all around school banging our wok drum!

We finished our celebrations by tasting Chinese food. Some of the children were really good using chopsticks. What a great few days we’ve had learning about this wonderful culture.

Happy New Year!

What Makes Us Feel Good?

7th February 2021June Ball

What a brilliant week we have had celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. Every day we have explored different activities and talked about feelings, especially about recognising different feelings and things we can do when we feel a certain way.

We have encouraged and supported good deeds and developed deeper friendships. As always we’ve been delighted that James has been able to join us via Zoom.

On Monday we tried mindfulness.

On Tuesday we made  badges to give to the special people in our lives. We also spent the afternoon in the Yurt where we played games together and ate the gorgeous banana cake we made in Food Technology.

On Wednesday we made Sensory Bottles.

On Thursday we introduced “Keep the Beat on the Cheap” a programme of activities which uses household objects to develop a sense of beat and promotes personal, social and emotional development. It was great that James could join us and Chester his dog was also involved.

And on Friday the children came to school in any outfit they wanted as part of “Dress to Express” day. We ended the week with a special visitor for the afternoon.

Phew, what a busy week and we loved every minute. We all really needed a feel good week.

We hope you have a good week end. Last week next week promises to be just as busy.

Year 3 Team.

The Giggling Googlers!

30th January 2021June Ball

We have a new name for our class, The Giggling Googlers! This has come about in a roundabout way of exploring letter sounds and talking about words and their meanings. This led us to explore Google and well, we found it such fun that we became The Giggling Googlers.

We continue to explore different topics in class and this week we celebrated all things Scottish for Robbie Burns Night and we also continued with our Art Project along with many other activities.

On Monday, we briefly introduced who Robbie Burns was via a PowerPoint and then went onto make haggis, neeps and tatties in Food Technology. This is a traditional meal eaten on Burns Night. We cooked the vegetables and also the vegetarian haggis (which was actually very tasty) and tried it in the afternoon. We were delighted that so many children tried it and some really liked it! (that’s you Sophia)

We also explored Scottish Dancing and practised The Gay Gordons before going into the Sports Hall. We were so impressed with how quickly the children picked it up. Usually the whole school would come together for dancing with the staff band and it did feel a bit strange with so few people. However, we had the most brilliant time and were quite worn out by the end of it.

What a great day we had.

Here are the photographs and some live footage too.

Busy bee’s in Class 3!

22nd January 2021June Ball

We’ve had another fun filled week this week! With an extra special treat, the Yurt!

We used our time in the Yurt to explore our class story Sam’s Sandwich and made our own sandwiches. We used the log burner inside the Yurt to cook our scrambled egg which smelt so delicious it attracted some unwanted visitors!

In the afternoon we had some lovely circle games with singing, dancing and the lycra! It went down a treat with the children and we had lots of smiling faces.

In Science we continued our work about Healthy Teeth. This week we wanted to find out which drinks were best for our teeth. So we got our lab coats on and had an experiment! We took three popular class drinks Coke, Tea and Water and used a boiled egg to play the role of a tooth. We left the eggs to soak over night and look at the results!

Last of all, a HUGE well done to our friend Mason! Who was Class 3’s Half Term Achiever!

He is so proud and so are we!

All Kinds of Everything!

15th January 2021June Ball

We’ve had such a busy week this week introducing new topics and also working on children’s individual outcomes.

In Science we are learning all about teeth and healthy eating. We watched a short PowerPoint and talked about our teeth and how to look after them. We were delighted at how much the children already knew and we had lots of lovely discussion about The Tooth Fairy!

In Art we introduced our Art and Design topic which is all about Paper Skills – folding, tearing, cutting, fanning and twisting. We have explored different skills using a range of materials which has resulted in a wonderful piece of work entitled “Winter” which is on display outside our room.

In Humanities we are learning all about Different Jobs in the Community. In light of the current situation, we explored what happens in a Hospital and the different jobs people do hospitals. It was lovely to have James working from home who joined in with the lesson via Zoom. and used his VOCA very effectively to answer questions. We completed an activity and then engaged in some role play with great success. We had some fabulous doctors/nurses and also patients!

And of course we enjoyed playing in the snow again. We used coloured water in spray bottles, syringes and pipettes. Goodness it was so cold but once we warmed up inside we finished off with a little time in Soft Play.

And how wonderful that James went out into the snow at home and sent us a lovely photo of himself and his snowman.

Wow, what a busy week. And last but not least, Dua was our well deserved Weekly Achiever. Here she is with her certificate and she chose chocolate buttons as her reward.

We think everyone deserves two days break before we get stuck into another busy week next week!

Take care everyone.

Year 3 Team.
