Marc’s Class – The Almost Summer Edition

27th May 2022Marc Teasdale

What a half term we’ve had here in Marc’s class! We started the half term with our breathtaking performance of ‘King Lear’ at the Northern Stage. There was not a dry eye in the house and our official Shakespeare School’s Festival appraiser called it ‘a magical and compelling production of King Lear, performed with great energy and skill’… high praise indeed!

We started our amazing new topic, the rainforest! We’ve been introduced to lots of new animals and even met some in person when Zoo Lab came to visit last week!

We created some amazing bunting and crowns for the queen’s platinum jubilee!

We even managed to fit in a cèilidh (complete with live band!) this week as a last week treat! We had great fun!

Have a well deserved and restful half term everyone and we’ll see you in a week for the final few weeks of the school year… where has the time gone?

From the Stage to the Rainforest

19th May 2022Marc Teasdale

We’ve had a great few weeks here in Marc’s class! You can also check out the last episode of our Blogcast here! We will post our latest episode on Monday.

Fresh from our success at the Northern Stage, we wasted no time in putting our decorating hats on as we began work on our ‘King Lear’ display…

We’ve begun our new topic! We love learning all about the rainforest. We have gotten to know the gorilla, the macaw, the piranha, the sloth and the tiger – we have used our incredible acting skills to help us remember each of them! Our friends from Zoo Lab came to visit this week and we got to meet (and even hold) lots of other rainforest animals:

We must also take the time to formally introduce the newest member of our team, Sadie!

Congratulations Mahnoor on your amazing Half Term Achiever’s presentation!

Have a great weekend!

‘I grow; I prosper!’

6th May 2022Marc Teasdale

What a fortnight it has been!

Our workshops and rehearsals culminated in an epic night of theatre last Friday, as our company performed our interpretation of ‘King Lear’ at the Northern Stage to tumultuous applause and praise! Our children received a standing ovation for their hard work and there was not a single person in the audience that wasn’t moved. Our climate change inspired play was a true testament to the incredible skills of each of our children and we could not be more proud of everyone involved in this momentous project! We also performed our play for the final time this week for our friends back at school. We’ve been on an incredible journey for the couple of months and to see our work come together like it did was nothing short of inspirational. We can’t wait to share the professional photos from the night with you all and there will be a DVD version of our performance for every child involved so they can relive this occasion at their leisure. I would like to personally thank and congratulate each and every one of the children and staff who were involved in the Shakespeare Schools Festival this year for their hard work and dedication to the project – ‘nothing comes from nothing’ as we know!

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

End of Act 1

8th April 2022Marc Teasdale

What an amazing time we’ve had here in Marc’s class over the last few weeks! We started the half term ‘cooler than cool’ and we are breaking up for Easter as true Shakespearean players! Our production of ‘King Lear’ has come a long long way since our first sessions all those weeks ago and we are confident that we have produced something truly special and unique. We can’t wait to share it with you all on Friday 29th April. Unfortunately we have sold out of our batch of tickets but there may still be some available from the Northern Stage Box Office.

Have a wonderful Easter everyone – we will see you in two weeks time!

Shakespeare Season Continues…

1st April 2022Marc Teasdale

We’ve had a great few weeks here in Marc’s class. Along with our friends from Ellen’s, Rachael’s and Scott’s classes, we have really made a fantastic job of our Shakespeare production, ‘King Lear’. Rehearsals have been amazing and I daresay that the bard himself would be proud. Tickets are on sale now from our front desk – it’s first come first served! Make sure you get some tissues ready too!

We had a great coffee afternoon last week – we loved sharing success stories and progress. Thank you to all who attended! Thank you also to our special guest Blogcast hosts! Our next episode will be available to watch next week…

We were visited this week by some very special guests for Spring Time. Take a look below:

Have a great weekend everyone!

St. Patrick’s Day

18th March 2022Marc Teasdale

What a week we’ve had! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this week – especially Irish dancing! You can see what we’ve been getting up to in episode 14 of our Blogcast, here!

We must also say a massive congratulations to Mason who is our Half Term Achiever! You can watch his presentation here!

Mason has worked extremely hard and is an amazing role model to everyone in our class! We are all so impressed and very proud!

Our ‘King Lear’ rehearsals have been absolutely amazing – everyone from our class (as well as our friends from Rachael’s, Ellen’s and Scott’s classes) has brought their ‘A’ game and we can’t wait to share the finished production with everyone at the Northern Stage.

Well done on another great week everyone!

Shakespeare Season Begins

11th March 2022Marc Teasdale

We’ve been extremely busy here in Marc’s class this week! Before we talk about everything we’ve been getting up to, you can check out our dramatic retelling of Sean Taylor’s ‘How to be Cooler than Cool’ here!

We’ve officially had our first Shakespeare sessions this week – we, alongside our friends from Scott’s, Rachael’s and Ellen’s classes, met in the Sports Hall to get better acquainted with our upcoming production of ‘King Lear’. We listened to and interacted with some of the soundtrack, engaged with different Drama games and listened to the story (performed very impressively by our talented staff!) The energy in the room was amazing and it felt good join with other classes once again to begin this year’s very special project.

We will keep everyone posted during the rehearsal process and there will be letters sent out very soon for those children involved! In the mean time, you can still watch last year’s production, ‘Shakespeare in 20/20’, here!

Look out for our next Blogcast next week and well done everyone for your great work this week!

Enjoy your weekend,

Marc

How to be Cooler than Cool!

4th March 2022Marc Teasdale

Happy World Book Week everyone! It’s been a fantastic first week back here in Marc’s class – not only have we officially welcomed our new friend, Joel, but we have also used our terrific drama skills to create a role-play based around our class story, ‘How to be Cooler than Cool’ by Sean Taylor. Our story revolves around a group of characters who find a pair of sunglasses. They think that the sunglasses will make them cool… but it doesn’t go exactly how they would like! Check out a snippet of our performance in the World Book Day assembly here!

Check out some photos of our week below:

Well done everyone on a fantastic first week back! ‘Shakespeare Season’ begins next week…

Have a lovely weekend!

Looking Back, Looking Forward

18th February 2022Marc Teasdale

What a week it’s been! This week we celebrated Valentine’s Day in style, made our own bread, practiced our dance for Ann Teasdale’s retirement assembly and said hello to our new friend, Joel! Check out some photos below and you can check out a very special episode of our Blogcast here!:

We must use this opportunity to say thank you and good luck to Ann Teasdale and Rob Oglethorpe – the support our class have received from each of you over the years has been invaluable and we wish you all the best in the future.

Well done EVERYONE for such a fantastic half term! We’ve all worked amazingly since returning to school after Christmas and we can’t wait to see what the next half term brings. Our new friend Joel will be joining us full time and we the preparation for our next Shakespeare production, ‘King Lear’, will be well under way.

Have a fantastic holiday everyone!
