We’re on a polar bear hunt…

9th December 2019Marc Teasdale

As we move into the final fortnight of the Autumn Term with all its festive delights, we just wanted to take a moment to share our very special polar bear expedition with you. Yes, David Attenborough would be proud as we role played our very own excursion in the north as polar bears last week. Our work on ‘Animal Adaptation’ during Science lessons this half term has focused on this magnificent creature and the features that help it survive in its environment. As part of our role play, we remembered the polar bear has a great sense of smell to find its prey…

…large paws to help it swim fast…

…sharp claws to rip the food it hunts…

…and massive teeth to eat it!

Each child showed off their recall skills to great effect and their acting skills just keep getting better and better!

We’ll keep you posted on all of our Christmassy goings on over the next two weeks!

Ho, ho, ho!

Rhythm and Air

29th November 2019Marc Teasdale

It’s been a fantastic week here in 6c! As part of our Humanities work on ‘Hot and Cold Countries’, we decided to take a little trip to Newcastle Airport this week. We could recognise different images of hot and cold destinations around the airport as well as have a good look at how we would go about visiting these! We even had our passports stamped – take a look below:

We began our work on poetry this week. We all had a great time using body percussion to produce rhythm to match the syllables in our name. We also enjoyed engaging and joining in with the poem ‘Splish Splash Splosh’. We will be writing our own versions of this poem over the next couple of weeks and we can’t wait to see what the poets of 6c will come up with. Check out how we used body percussion to create rhythm below:

We’ve also worked extremely hard in our Science topic: Animal Adaptation. We have explored the key features of a polar bear and how they help the polar bear survive in its environment. We came up with an action for each feature to help us remember. Check it out below:

And finally, please enjoy a sample of the official photographs from our production of ‘Comedy of Errors’ – they look great!

Have a great weekend!

The Return of the Mighty 6c!

22nd November 2019Marc Teasdale

Hello everyone, we are back! We’ve been extremely busy since returning to school after half-term and we have lots to fill you in about! Firstly, we have worked extremely hard in our Maths lessons these last couple of weeks. We have looked at identifying shapes, identifying the difference between more and less (and long and short!) and worked on handling money. We have also made a great start in our new topic, ‘Time’! We’ve also gotten a lot of exercise and practiced our handwriting skills. Take a look below:

We have continued to work hard on our Art topic of ‘Collage’ since returning to school. We have begun making our memory scrapbooks and collectively put together our own Children in Need mascot. Check out ‘Bill Drakespeare’ below:

And speaking of Shakespeare, we finally took our performance of ‘The Comedy of Errors’ to the Northern Stage to rapturous applause and acclaim! Yes, our production was a hit with each child shining in their own way and showing a deep understanding of the character they each portrayed. The chemistry between each cast member and their enthusiasm was apparent throughout and the audience loved it! We also held one last performance at school, which was extremely well-received by all our friends. Well done everyone! Stay tuned for the official photographs from our dress rehearsal, which we will share with you as soon as we receive them. Watch this space!

Have a great weekend

End of Act 1

25th October 2019Marc Teasdale

It’s been a brilliant end to a phenomenal half term here in 6c! We began the week with our annual trip to Safety Works! We learned all about how to be safe around unfamiliar dogs; the stages of the green cross code; how to be safe around bonfires, fireworks and sparklers and saw what a police station and police cell look like! We were even lucky enough to try on some uniform! Check it out below:

We also engaged in some Halloween activities this week – as part of our Numeracy work we went trick or treating and counted the treats that we received! We also had a Halloween party, created our own Halloween collages and showed off our Halloween spirit in true 6c style. Take a look below:

And finally… our production of ‘Comedy of Errors’ is nearing completion! We have successfully and professionally managed to tell a cohesive and extremely funny story in our own way and we can’t wait to share the fruits of our hard work at the Northern Stage on Thursday 7th November!  Check out some photos of this week’s rehearsals below:

We have had a fantastic start of the year – a massive thank you to every child and staff member in 6c who has helped the year get off to a flying start! We hope you all have an amazing week’s holiday!

Enter Stage Right

18th October 2019Marc Teasdale

We’ve truly outdone ourselves this week! We all deserve a massive pat on the back as our production of ‘Comedy of Errors’ is truly coming together well. In just three short weeks we have honed and practiced six extremely funny and well-acted scenes – with only the finishing touches to add to our production, we are confident that we will have the entire Northern Stage in stitches on November 7th! Check out how our rehearsals are going below:

We also proved to be extremely skilled and curious scientists this week. For our topic ‘Reversible and Irreversible Changes’, we mixed various substances with water and worked out whether the water could be separated again! Check out our experimentation below:

We paid a visit to Westgate College Café this week as part of our work on life skills. We acted with standard 6c decorum and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

Only one more week until half-term! Have a lovely weekend!

Shakespeare Season Cometh

11th October 2019Marc Teasdale

What a fortnight we’ve had! Since our last post we have doubled down on our rehearsals for ‘Comedy of Errors’. It has been a true pleasure to see the bard’s tale of confusion, mistaken identity and family come to life in true Hadrian style! We have some extremely talented actors in 6c and we can’t wait for everyone to see our play live at the Northern Stage, on Thursday 7th November. Tickets are available now! Check out some photos from our rehearsals below (no spoilers):

After all of that work we decided, to let off some steam by visiting Morrison’s café for our morning snack this Wednesday! We were all very excited to be there and we loved tucking into our toast and juice – our table manners were impeccable!

Just two more weeks of half-term left…where has the time gone!?
Have a great weekend!

6c: The Macmillan Coffee Afternoon Edition

27th September 2019Marc Teasdale

It’s been another great week here in 6c! It’s a testament to how hard we’ve all been working that this week has really highlighted lots of the amazing progress we have made! We are communication experts…

Numeracy whizz kids…

Creative storytellers…

And just an all round delightful bunch!

We had a fantastic Friday this week where we were the hosts with the most for our coffee afternoon for Macmillan! We raised over £150 for the charity and sampled some delicious cakes, crisps and treats! We would like to an extend a very heartfelt thank you to everyone that provided us with treats and to everyone who attended and donated. We had a fantastic afternoon. A great end to a great week!

Have a great weekend!

Do you remember? Enjoying the third week of September…

20th September 2019Marc Teasdale

We’ve had a lovely week here in 6c! We’ve really worked hard this week in everything we’ve done. We’re making great progress in Literacy – our communication skills are top notch!

We are becoming experts at recognising sight vocabulary for our community (especially shops!):

And if that wasn’t enough, we have each chosen some of our favourite interests to add to our ‘Meet 6C’ board!

We also had great fun during our number hunt this week! We each had to find our personalised number cards in the adventure playground and arrange them in the correct order when we brought them back inside. Check it out below:

We also enjoyed making sandwiches in Food Technology this week. We chose our own fillings and put together each sandwich the way we like it. Move over Subway:

It’s been an active week this week! We’ve swam, ridden bikes, made use of our Sensory Integration room and bounced on the trampoline. The works! Check out our sporty endeavours below:

Another great week! Have a lovely weekend!

Another great week!

13th September 2019Marc Teasdale

What a week we’ve had in 6c! After getting to know each other last week, we’ve really started to get the ball rolling this week in terms of showing off all the amazing things we can do! We started the week in style by making our very own collage self-portraits for our ‘Meet 6c’ display. We all thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting them together, using lots of different colour tissue paper to denote the different parts of our faces. Check out what we came up with below:

We also flexed our Numeracy muscles this week – we have engaged in many different activities and games to demonstrate how well we can count. We also had the grand opening of our 6c café this week, complete with shopkeepers and a very delicious menu! Our shopkeepers did a great job at making sure all the money paid was correct and our customers did very well with turn-taking and counting their coins accurately! Check it out below:

We had a very exciting and interesting discussion about our feelings this week. In preparation for our upcoming Shakespeare sessions, we used our knowledge of emotions to practice some drama activities. We have some very talented youngsters in 6c! We were able to portray (very accurately I might add) happiness…

anger…

and fear!

We also had great fun acting out our ‘Great Escape’ sketch! We all managed to sneak our way past the sleeping security guard (serves him right!)

What a lovely start to our first half-term of Year 6! Have a great weekend everyone!

Getting to know 6c!

6th September 2019Marc Teasdale

Hello everyone! We do hope you’ve all had an amazing holiday and we are absolutely thrilled to be starting the new school year with such an amazing group of youngsters! Everyone has settled in really well and we have had a great first week of getting to know each other. On our first day we played our introduction game. We danced (very well I might add), we told the class our name and we tried our 6c greetings on the SmartBoard for the first time. We thoroughly enjoy adding a fist bump, hug, ‘hi’, high five or a thumbs up to our circle time routine…

We also got to know a little bit about our individual interests. We each chose a picture to represent some of our favourite things and used this to decorate our very own placemats for snack time. We were all very proud of what we created and can’t wait to start using them next week during our morning and afternoon snack.

We’ve also began working on decorating the classroom this week. We have each shown our incredible range of facial expressions (more of this to come in the following weeks!) in photographs that we will use for our wall displays. We can’t wait to put them all together as a team and see how they look!

Well done 6c on such a great start to the year – have a lovely weekend!
