Pancake fun and more…

28th February 2020Phil Cookson

What a week. Monday was full of snow fun and Tuesday we enjoyed Pancake Day! We had our annual school assembly where children and staff competed in tossing the pancakes. We then made our own in class and enjoyed eating them with yummy toppings. Followed by our very own class competition. The children went head to head in various pancake activities including; tossing them in a pan, throwing them as far as they could across the classroom and seeing who could get them out of the window. Owen was crowned our winner for his fantastic pancake tossing skills!

Owen the winner!!!!!

It hasn’t all been fun and games, lots of hard work has been carried out by the class too. We are starting our new topic this half term on World War ll, we have set up an air raid shelter in class which the children have started exploring and are loving climbing in and out of. We will be doing lots more fun things over the term so watch this space!

In Science we are also starting a new topic ‘Helping plants to grow well’. The class have started thinking about the things we need to help plants and went on a hunt around school to see if they could find these things.

In Math the children have been learning about money and time. They used money to buy their own toast and juice for snack (which you can see by the photos, they all enjoyed doing).

Snow much fun!

28th February 2020Phil Cookson

Welcome back. What a way to start the half term off, with lots of snow! We hope you all had a lovely week off and are ready for another busy half term of fun, creativity and hard work.

Monday we enjoyed the snow while it lasted. The class really enjoyed getting wrapped up and going out to explore and play in it. We had a very fun snow ball fight which was followed by some yummy hot chocolate to warm us up.

The photos speak for themselves as to how much fun was had by the children!

Happy Valentine’s Day

14th February 2020Phil Cookson

We have had a lovely but very busy last week of term. The children have enjoyed a range of activities and really tried their best. Some of the children were chosen to go the always good assembly on Tuesday afternoon to see a magician, ‘Magic Andrew’. This was a lovely opportunity for them to have some time away from the classroom environment and get an extra treat for all their hard work. We had our last session of Tag Rugby with Reece on Tuesday morning, the children have loved these PE sessions and we hope to do some more Tag Rugby in the future. (See our ‘Let’s get Physical’ blog for photos).

In English we have been reading the story of ‘Robot Rumpus’ by Sean Taylor. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the chaos of the story and even went around the school on a hunt for items to represent each robot.

In Maths we have been starting to look at Time and learning about the parts of the clock that we need to look at to tell the time. Recognising numerals 1-12 is a key element to this so we have been recapping on what numbers we know and can recognise to help us tell the time.

We have a new classroom space in school now which is in the form of a stagecoach bus! The Lord Mayor visited us on Monday for the opening of this new addition to Hadrian and the children in class have loved every minute of getting the chance to go on and explore.

We have also been busy making Valentine’s treats and we hope you all enjoyed the yummy heart cake your child brought home which they made and decorated independently. We wish you all a lovely Valentine’s Day and a very happy half term!

This week in 3/4

7th February 2020Phil Cookson

What a busy week. We have achieved so much this week, some fantastic learning has been taking place and excellent levels of engagement from all our children in class 3/4. From using money to pay for snacks to beginning to learn how to tell the time! The children have been making play dough; pizza’s and even went to the shops to get their own ingredients.

We have been very physical this week too, lots of PE, Tag Rugby and yoga to get our bodies stretched and moving. This is fantastic for when we start to put our dance moves to good use in PE next Monday and create our very own dance routine.

Ellie May received the certificate in assembly today for her fab work in music on Wednesday. She rocked the keyboard and really got in to the rhythm of the music. Well done Ellie May!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and see you next week for one more week of hard work before the half term holidays.

Trifle’s for everyone!

24th January 2020Phil Cookson

This week we have been making trifles!

We started from scratch and the children needed to figure out what was needed in order to make our trifles.

The first step was to make a shopping list of all the ingredients that we needed. The children picked out the ingredient s from a selection of foods and placed them on to their shopping lists. We then set off to Lidl to get the ingredients. The class were all fantastic as they walked down to Lidl and each took turns in pushing the shopping trolleys and picking up everything on the list whilst in the shop. The next step was making the trifles. The class all made individual trifles, they needed to use a range of skills in order to put the ingredients together including; chopping the fruit up, mixing the jelly, spooning the custard, squirting the cream and grating the chocolate on top. The final step and probably the most enjoyable part was… eating the trifle!

We had mixed reviews from the children but everyone had a taste, which is excellent!

Dancing at the Ceilidh

24th January 2020Phil Cookson

What great fun class 3/4 had dancing with friends at the Burn’s Night Ceilidh on Wednesday afternoon. The children watched the adults demonstrate each Ceilidh dance before joining in and getting their bodies moving to the traditional music. It was such a great afternoon full of fun and laughter. The class enjoyed being with the rest of the school and had a wonderful time. We wish everyone celebrating Burns Night a fantastic evening!

No-Bot, the Robot with no bottom.

17th January 2020Phil Cookson

Happy Friday!

This week we have had lots of children off poorly, we wish them all a very restful weekend. We hope to see everyone back in school on Monday fit and well and feeling happy.

Class 3/4 have been busy continuing to learn about robots. We continued with the story ‘No-bot, the robot with no bottom’. In English the children began thinking about different parts of the story and started making observations of what they could see happening throughout the story.

In D.T we made our very own robots, the children thoroughly enjoyed getting their creative juices flowing and using their building skills to put together various objects. In Science we have been experiencing magnetic forces and experimenting to see which objects around school are magnetic and non-magnetic.

We have also been getting fit in P.E, practising our Rugby skills. This week we looked at and practised passing and kicking the ball.

Huge happy birthday’s to two of the boys this week. Kaleb and Raheel share a birthday and both celebrated their special day on Tuesday. Kaleb turned 9 and Raheel turned 8. They both brought in yummy cakes to share with their friends and enjoyed playing some games at their party.

Happy New Year

10th January 2020Phil Cookson

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and we are so happy to see everyone back to school this week to start another busy half term. Thank you again to everyone for their kindness over the Christmas and for all the lovely cards, gifts and well wishes we received.

Sadly we said goodbye to one of our staff at Christmas who has retired. Margaret will be a great miss to both the team and school and we wish her lots of happiness in the next part of her journey. She has already been back to visit this week to say hello to everyone. We welcomed a new member to the team on Monday, Kevin. We are happy to have Kevin with us and we are sure he will settle in to the class in no time.

This half term we will be starting a new topic…. Robots! We have already had lots of fun activities across lessons learning about and making our own robots. In English we will be reading ‘No-bot, the robot with no bottom’ by Sue Hendra. We started looking at the story yesterday which led us on to doing a treasure hunt around school to find No-bot’s bottom. The class enjoyed getting in to groups and looking around school for clues leading them to find the bottom and some treasures. In Maths the children have been building their own robots using various shapes.

In P.E this week the children enjoyed taking part in tag rugby. Our instructor Reece was fantastic with the children and everyone was really engaged and had fun. We will be continuing with tag rugby for the remainder of this half term. In Science we have been learning about push and pull. The class enjoyed using different objects to move around using the language push, pull, fast and slow.

Merry Christmas!

19th December 2019Phil Cookson

What another fantastic half term we have had, full of festive cheer and fun. This week has been another busy one, full of exciting activities for class 3/4.

On Monday the children who are in the choir went to Grainger Market and performed fantastically, whilst the rest of the class enjoyed Christmas crafts. Tuesday was Christmas Jumper and Christmas Dinner day which was enjoyed by the whole school. The children enjoyed wearing their hats they had made in the morning. We also had a whole school assembly in the afternoon and all the children were given a present each from Santa. The presents were kindly donated by The High Street Group.

On Wednesday we continued with our festive crafts and in the afternoon we went to Ferguson Lodge to perform some Christmas songs for the elderly people with class 6B. The class were enthusiastic and all enjoyed the experience.

Thursday afternoon we had the Key Stage 2 Christmas party, the children enjoyed dancing and playing games as well as having some yummy party food. We also got another visit from Santa! Thank you to everyone who kindly sent in party food for the class to enjoy.

Tomorrow we will be having Christmas fun in the morning and then finishing off a busy week with our school nativity.

We hope you all have a fantastic Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all back in January.
