We had a wonderful time helping John celebrate his 5th birthday by having a party. We played ‘pass the parcel’, danced with balloons and shared some delicious food and cake,

To carry on with our jungle theme we melted some chocolate, added in rice krispies, gave them a stir, placed them on paper bases and added white chocolate buttons as claws to make them look like animal paws. After they had been in the fridge to set we ate them for our snack.

What a lovely day we had celebrating Chinese New Year. In class we made Chinese dragons using crayons, pens, pencils, glitter, foil and tissue paper. We also had a special assembly where we watched how many people celebrate the New Year by having parties, street dancing and watching fireworks. Back in class we carried on with the theme by sampling Chinese food for snack time.

What a wonderful week we’ve had exploring the story of Elmer.  We were very lucky to be given a bag of resources to go with the story from a local lady, which the children have had the opportunity to play with alongside listening to the story. We enjoyed the story so much we decided to make our own multi-coloured elephants using different coloured materials.

On Wednesday we had lots of fun making our pizzas. We rolled the dough, spread tomato on the top, placed peppers and mushrooms before sprinkling on the cheese. While they were in the oven cooking, we cleaned up all the mess we had created ready to taste our pizzas – they were really yummy, we can’t wait to make them again.

What a wonderful, exciting and fun-filled day we had at New Adventure Lands on Wednesday. We climbed right to the top of the soft play and slid all the way back down. We travelled over hard and soft surfaces, through tunnels, over cargo nets and bounced on the trampolines. Before it was time to come home some of us had a quick game of football.

Phew – what a fun day we all had!

To end our story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ we decided to make our own butterfly cakes and decorate them with beautiful bright colours, we used red, blue, green, yellow, purple and orange butter icing and added sprinkles to make them shine just like the butterfly at the end of our story. Not only did we have great fun making them but they tasted delicious.

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Nursery/Reception 1. We have had lots of fun learning while we play with our friends, and have especially enjoyed exploring our new dolls house. Not only have we had lots of fun indoors, some of us were really lucky and had the chance to play outside in the freshly fallen snow.

Continuing with our ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story, we have been looking at butterflies this week. We enjoyed painting our butterflies using brushes, sponges and of course our hands. The results were very colourful and will certainly brighten up our classroom. In the story, the caterpillar enjoys eating some chocolate cake, so we decided to make our very own ‘butterfly’ themed chocolate cake. We enjoyed mixing, smelling, decorating and finally, the best bit, eating the cake. Mmm… this could be one of our favourite stories!
