Volunteering at Hadrian School – Class Roles and helping in our new Café
Thanks for your interest in volunteering at Hadrian School. With the school growing so fast and now having 19 classes and 170 children it’s very busy every day.
Café Volunteers
Hadrian School are looking for volunteers to assist with the running of our new Café Development (Tommy’s Café). As part of our ‘Dream Big Project’ which involves building a new Hydrotherapy Pool and a Disability Community Resource we have built a Cafe’ in memory of one of our much-loved Governors Tommy Thompson.

As it’s a new venture for us we are still finding our feet in terns of what support we may need, what days, and what the exact activities the volunteers will be involved in, but we would like volunteers to consider helping us with the following:
- Assisting in preparing simple food items such as sandwiches, cakes, (Online Food Hygiene Training will be given)
- Helping to take orders/serve customers
- Helping to stock items such as drinks, confectionery
- Helping to clean the café down after any days where business takes place
- Working with the children on their preparation for life activities (This will involve working with children around the food technology curriculum, cooking with them)

Class based roles:
We are looking for volunteers to help in school on a regular basis across all year groups to assist with activities such as swimming, working on the trampolines delivering therapies, assisting in the classroom, helping to supervise children playing outside, arts and crafts, school trips and lots of other activities.
If you could commit to a regular day/time each week this would be so helpful to the classes. It’s important that volunteers are committed to coming into school, as the Teachers will plan activities on the basis that there will be volunteers in class.
If you could spare a day or half day or even more time in your week to help in school we would be very grateful.
The kind of activities you could be involved in are:
- Supporting PE, Trampoline, Hydrotherapy or swimming groups
- Supervising painting or ‘messy’ play activities and clearing up
- Working with table top activities, puzzles, matching games and computer work
- Reading stories or supervising play activities
- Dance or Drama sessions
- Supporting feeding programmes at lunch times or supervising in the playground
- Accompanying minibus outings and community based learning
- Preparing materials and resources
- Helping children with their independence by going on trips to Café or in the community
Please note: if you are not able or don’t wish to take part in the more physical aspects this is not an issue as you can help supervise on the pool side etc. but it is an important element of the role in most classes to be physically fit.
