The children are all thriving throughout our Transport topic this half term in Ellen’s class. Our classroom is now all things traffic – we have a car wash, a mechanic’s garage, a bus, and car park, alongside our small world and table top transport activities.
The children have enjoyed so many things so far – our sensory story in literacy, story massage, dance and song, as well having lots of fun in PE; following the road on scooters, wheelie boards and bikes, not forgetting to stop at the traffic lights!
The children have been very engaged in these environments and as we use a total communication approach (keywords, Makaton signs, symbols and communication boards) throughout their day, we can see lots of lovely progress in many areas of this children’s development.
As well as fun in school the children also enjoyed a trip to town by travelling on a public bus. We walked to the bus stop and supported the children to pay their fare for their ticket. En- route we could see lots of things out of the window as we held on tightly to our tickets. After a well deserved cookie and drink in the cafe we headed back to catch the bus. It was a pleasure to be out and about and the children all did so well. We will be having some more visits out soon to explore this topic further so watch this space!
