Coralie’s Classroom

19th November 2020Coralie Forbes

Hi Everyone

We thought you would like to see some of the lovely displays and different areas we have in our classroom. We realise that no one has been able to see our new classroom due to current circumstances! We have lots more space and the room is lovely and bright and full of light.

Remembrance Day Activities

12th November 2020Coralie Forbes

Hi Everyone

It was our turn to be in the Yurt on Monday morning and so we decided to do some activities exploring the colour red, relating to Remembrance Day poppies. We sat on red mats and had some lovely calm reflective music playing in the background as the children explored different textures including ribbons, tissue paper, cellophane, straws, wool and feathers. We also got rather messy feeling and exploring red glitter jelly! We ended the session with some gentle activities with red lycra. Alfie our school dog joined us for a few minutes and had his very own red mat to sit on!

Bonfires and Fireworks!

5th November 2020Coralie Forbes

Hi Everyone.

We wanted to share with you some of the activities we have done this week relating to Bonfire Night. We have had lots of fun with paint, teabags and glitter to make some amazing fire work pictures! These are now displayed in the classroom and look fantastic! We also used percussion instruments to make firework sounds to play along with some rhymes and songs that we sang on Wednesday all about bonfires, fireworks and sizzling sausages! We added in some colourful lights too which was fun! On Thursday afternoon we went into the wildlife garden to join other class bubbles (at a suitable distance!) to watch our very own school firework display.

Sparkle!

Whoosh!

Snap! Crackle! Pop!

“I’m Not Scary”

15th October 2020Coralie Forbes

Hi Everyone,

We have had lots of fun this week taking part in our sensory story – “I’m Not Scary!”. There were bugs everywhere – caterpillars, beetles, dragon flies, snails, grasshoppers and spiders! None of them were really scary – not even the spider!. We hope you enjoy the photos!

Apples and Pears!

9th October 2020Coralie Forbes

Hi Everyone

This has been an unusual week for everyone but we were so pleased to be able to get back to school on Thursday.

We have started to explore Autumn activities and yesterday we had lots of fun with apples, pears and apricots. The children enjoyed holding, feeling and smelling the whole fruit followed by the same when the fruit was peeled and cut up. A sensory delight!

There was lots of choice making when we were exploring -some children choosing between pieces of fruit and some between picture symbols of the fruit. We then took turns to press a switch to activate the blender so we could puree the fruit.

Then came the tasting and smelling – yum!

Hope you enjoy these lovely photos.

The photos below show some of the activities that we have enjoyed and the smiley faces show just how much fun we are having! The children are working really hard too!

Music Therapy

13th March 2020Coralie Forbes

We all have experiences of being engaged in music – even if it is only by tapping our foot to a song on the radio, or singing in the shower. But in the hands of expertly trained music therapists like ours, music can bring added benefits, breaking through where words can’t.

We are so lucky to have a weekly session with our Music Therapist Afra, It is wonderful to watch how engaged the children are.

Well done to Sophia our Half term achiever! You have settled in so well at Hadrian School and try your best in all you do.

Have wonderful weekend.

We love books!

6th March 2020Coralie Forbes

What a wonderful week we have had celebrating our love of books!

We had a visit to Seven Stories where we participated in a sensory story  ‘Jungle Jamboree’, it was great fun and the children got to dress up in the animal outfits, listen to the different animals sounds and feel lots of textures similar to animal skin.

The children enjoy stories so much,  it gives many opportunities to make choices, practice cause and effect and communicate their feelings/likes/dislikes through eye contact, vocalisations, gestures and early Makaton signs.

We had a whole school celebration for World Book Day where the children dressed as characters, they all looked fabulous and had such a great day! In the afternoon we watched some classes doing short plays of their favourite stories.

ZOOLAB came to visit and we got to meet lots of creatures such as snakes, cockroaches, millipedes. We were very brave holding and stroking them.
