This week we have started our newest class story… it’s a classic but still enjoyed to this day by children… Our class enjoyed ever aspect of The Three Little Pigs, from looking at the pigs and the wolf, to feeling the straw, bricks and sticks, to smelling the soup boiling in the pan over the fire, which ends in a heated way for poor old Mr. Wolf! Fun and laughter had by all! We are all looking forward to returning to the story again next week!
We all enjoyed the Chinese New Year celebration. In class we explored noodles with a sticky spicy sauce for messy play. We also enjoyed our new sensory story “Firecrackers and Lanterns” where we experienced lots of Chinese traditions like cleaning the house, tasting prawn crackers, listening to crackly fireworks, and watching a colourful dragon dance.
To celebrate Burns Night we joined the whole school in the sports hall for a Ceildh, where the school band played and we danced our SOCKS OFF !! WHAT FUN !!
It was lovely to see everyone back after the holidays, all rested and ready to go! Here are some of the activities we’ve been up to.
The Christmas Festivities have been in full swing in Class 1. They began on National Elf Day when we completed our sponsored dance around school, dressed in our cheekiest Elf costumes. Then we got busy doing lots of Christmas crafts, making cards, and calendars. We have also enjoyed our Christmas drama session and our new Christmas story “I love Christmas”, both have given us lots of new experiences, from smelling spicy/sweet mincemeat and marzipan, to feeling crunchy wrapping paper, tickly tinsel, bristly branches, and jingly decorations. There has also been lots of singing, from our outside whole school sing along with the band, to sharing songs around the Christmas tree at our coffee afternoon. Hope you enjoy the photos!
It has been a busy and exciting week in Class 1. On Tuesday we all enjoyed our Christmas trip out on the bus to Dobbie’s Garden Centre at Heighley Gate. It was lovely to spend time in the soft play, going down slides and crawling through tunnels. After lunch we explored the shop, which was full of Christmas fayre, lots of twinkly lights, shiny baubles, and spikey Christmas trees. We were lucky enough to explore Santa’s Grotto too, and even though he was out to lunch we still got to drop our letters in his box!
Another fun filled afternoon this week was our Multi-Cultural day. The sports hall was filled with delicious smells from Asian food. Everyone was dressed up in traditional costumes, they were very colourful and the music and dancing was fantastic! What a treat!
We are really enjoying our new topic Space. In Rhythm and Rhyme we practised our counting to build a rocket, it was very tall! Everyones favourite bit was 5 4 3 2 1 BLAST OFF. With our hands we have explored twinkly stars and moon rocks, which were all shapes and sizes. For outdoor learning we headed out to the Adventure Playground for a moon rock hunt. It was so exciting as they were hidden in the most unusual places. We worked really hard holding on to our heavy baskets to get them back to class!
It has been so exciting being part of Timbadash`s latest workshop. We have had 6 weeks enjoying ‘The World of Bounce’, where we met Jumping Jenny and things go PING and BOING! Each week was a different theme, and to get the full effect of the sensory experience we climbed onto the trampolines. We have bounced up into the clouds, been transported through space where we met friendly Aliens, and even been human fireworks, what an amazing experience its been !!!
Its been a very busy week in Class 1. We had so much fun at our Halloween disco and we all looked fab in our costumes! We all enjoyed making a scary pumpkin, using our hands to pull out all the stringy gooey bits, yuk! For Bonfire Night we explored lots of different textures for our lovely firework pictures. After that we had musical firework rhymes, playing lots of different instruments that sounded like real fireworks, CRACKLE, FIZZ, BANG !!! What fun !
