This week in NR2

10th February 2020Coralie Forbes

We have lots of water fun this week! We experimented changing the colour of water and used lots of different funnels, boats, sea creatures to play. The Hydro pool is also as favourite of ours where we work on our physical skills, as well as having fun and relaxing.

We have been working very hard in circle time too –  getting to know our daily timetable and recognising each others faces and pictures.

Chinese New Year

5th February 2020Coralie Forbes

We celebrated Chinese New Year with a whole school assembly.  We were wowed with a traditional Dragon Dance by our older friends, lots of colourful costumes, music and Chinese cooking! To stay in theme our sensory exploration lesson we used noodles.

Well done Nicole! Our half term achiever

Lovely to have Frazer back after his surgery, still with his big beautiful smile, being a brave boy.

Well done to Nicole our half term achiever! Fabulous to watch all the hard work and achievements you have made.

Lots of Celebrations this week

Happy birthday Jack

Happy birthday Frazer

We have had a very busy fun week in NR2.

We celebrated two birthdays Jack and Frazer who were both 6 years old! They enjoyed their friends singing to them and blowing out the candles on their cakes.

Wednesday we had a whole school Burns night Ceilidh celebration with traditional music and dancing. The adults showed us each dance then everybody got involved, it was great fun for all. Its always great to socialise with our friends from different classes.

Jabadao

17th January 2020Elaine Quinn

Jabadao is movement and exploration that supports children’s development physically, emotionally and in many other ways too. It encourages natural physical spontaneity, is child led and play based, each child is the expert in the ways they need to move.

Jabadao is good to work on the vestibular and proprioception systems by helping to improve hand-eye co-ordination, balance, orientation, body awareness, attention, and the ability to sit still, whilst supporting language and makaton signs as the children communicate what they want to do.

Our class really enjoy this session, we have a dimmed room with fairy lights, body boards, exercise balls, many different coloured scarfs and tinsel pom poms for the children to explore, whilst listening to appropriate music.

11th December 2019Coralie Forbes

The season is here, we have celebrated Christmas all week, starting with our whole school Advent assembly on Monday.

On Tuesday we had a fantastic trip to the Metrocentre where we looked at the lovely tree and all the decorations, a trip to the Disney Store then finished off with a festive train ride.

Wednesday we began our new Christmas sensory story -“I Love Christmas”.

Splish Splash!

29th November 2019Coralie Forbes

We all love Hydrotherapy! Children and the adults, its such an enjoyable relaxing activity  where we play games, sing nursery rhymes do lots of turn taking which helps us to get to know each others names, all helping with stimulation of vocalization and language. It also helps increase muscle strength without impact on joints, and helps with reduction of muscle tone.

We have began our artwork for that very special time of year!!! Christmas but shhhh we can’t say the word out loud until December!  Looking forward to seeing all of the children’s faces when they see school decorated on Monday.

Our new sensory story!

22nd November 2019Coralie Forbes

This term in Literacy the children were introduced to our new Sensory Story – “Wow said the Owl”.  The story entertained the children with lots of things to hear, see, touch, taste and ‘do’ and is definitely a big hit with the children!

Over the coming weeks the children will have many opportunities to make choices, practice cause and effect and communicate their feelings/likes/dislikes through eye contact, vocalisations, gestures and early Makaton signs.

We will re-visit this book over the next few weeks and through repetition the children may begin to form links with the story and in turn start to recall/anticipate as well as practice and build upon new skills such as pressing a switch to make something happen or using their voice in the microphone.

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Duck Fun Run for Children In Need

14th November 2019Coralie Forbes

We all had fun taking part in a class fun run for Children In Need on Thursday afternoon! The theme was “ducks” and we had lots of fun exploring feathers and then dancing round the school to some great Disney music.

Surprise visit from Pudsey bear Friday morning had all the children smiling!

The children looked fab in their special outfits! We then had an afternoon of games and a Children in Need assembly.

We hope you all have a great weekend.

Firework fun in Art!

8th November 2019Coralie Forbes

We have had another busy and happy week.

As it was Bonfire Night we decided to be creative and design a firework display for our walls. All the children had fun using metallic and fluorescent paint to create swirls and marks using their hands on black paper. We then had fun with lots of glitter and sequins to make everything sparkly. We listened to “firework” music as we worked and turned the lights down low to enhance the experience! We now have a fantastic display on our wall!

(Sorry about all the glitter that went home attached to the children, but we had great fun!!)
