Autumn Fun!

24th October 2019Elaine Quinn

Fun with leaves!

This week we have taken the opportunity to explore the lovely Autumn leaves which have been falling off the trees. Some of the children went into the Wildlife Garden to gather leaves to bring into the class for us all to explore. Everyone enjoyed exploring the different colours and textures and hearing the sound of the crunchy ones!

I’ve got the most!

Choosing my favourite! Hard work

So many colours, textures and smells

Exploring textures

I loved collecting leaves!

Farewell afternoon tea

Staff and children are going to miss you Ali

On a sad note we said goodbye to Alison one of the staff team who has left us to take up a new post. She has been in our Early Years team for many years and was a much loved and very gifted member of staff. We shall all miss her hugely but wish her all the best in her new job.

We are the champions!!

4th October 2019Coralie Forbes

It’s been another busy week here in class.  From rebound therapy to communication group, tacpac and music therapy.

To celebrate Harvest Festival we all attended a whole school assembly to celebrate with singing and dancing. The grand finale was the Great Hadrian Bake Off competition.  The school celebrated all things ‘bread’ and each class contributed their own creation.  We incorporated our bread making into our Little Red Hen sensory story.  The children helped to make the bread and everyone had the chance to feel, knead and shape the dough.  There were lots of lovely smells too from the chorizo and cheese we added!  The judges thought it was so tasty we were awarded the winners and won the much envied and sought after ‘Bake Off’ tea towel which we will display with pride!!

This afternoon the children will finish off the week with a soft play session which is always good fun – enjoy the weekend.

Adding our tasty ingredients

…. and a pat to make it smooth

I was a natural in music therapy

Great looking and listening!

Our time in Sensory Circuits

27th September 2019Coralie Forbes

Our children are really enjoying their Sensory Circuit sessions each week.  As we enter the Rebound Centre it’s lovely to see the children’s faces light up with what the room has to offer.  The room is dimly lit to show off all the sensory lighting (some of which is sound sensitive to music playing).  Around the trampolines are ‘stations’  offering different sensory experiences such as a large drum, a suspended swing, hammock, ball pool, mirrors and fibre optics etc. As we move around the stations the children let us know their likes, dislikes and preferences – favourites being the hammock swing and mirror pyramid with star laser lights!

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Feeling the vibrations on the drum

I was interested in everything!

Exploring light

I enjoyed being enclosed in the mirror pyramid

Wheee – my first time swinging in the hammock!

Working hard on the trampoline with the physio

Playing and exploring together

Sensory Storytime

13th September 2019Coralie Forbes

This week in Literacy the children were introduced to our new Sensory Story – “The Little Red Hen”.  The story entertained the children with lots of things to hear, see, touch, taste and ‘do’.

Over the coming weeks the children will have many opportunities to make choices, practice cause and effect and communicate their feelings/likes/dislikes through eye contact, vocalisations, gestures and early Makaton signs.  We will re-visit this book over the next few weeks and through repetition the children may begin to form links with the story and in turn start to recall/anticipate as well as practice and build upon new skills such as pressing a switch to make something happen or using their voice in the microphone.

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

I wasn’t so sure about the noises the hen made!

Learning to dig the soil

Exploring and feeling the corn

Mixing the flour to make the bread

The dough felt soft and squidgy!

Checking the bread is just right!

Hi everyone – we hope you all had a great summer break with your children and families.

It has been lovely to have our children from last year back in class after the holidays –  looking so well and a bit bigger!  We will also be welcoming three more new children into our class over the next few weeks which is really exciting!

Although it’s been a quick week there’s still been lots of things happening for the children to experience.

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

We’re all going on a summer holiday!

19th July 2019Coralie Forbes

Our final blog post of this school year is here and we can’t believe it – the time has gone so quickly.

We hope you enjoy the photographs of our lovely day trip to Marisa’s garden (our wonderful long standing volunteer).  The weather was perfect – not much sun but still nice and warm and the children all had a great time.  Marisa had kindly set up bubble machines, sandpits, toys and blankets for us, alongside all of other great play equipment in her garden.  The garden is huge so there was lots of lovely safe, outdoor space to explore and enjoy.  It has become an annual treat for our class to visit – thank you Marisa!

We also want to say a huge thank you to Jan for all her hard work, commitment, knowledge, skills and friendship over the years – the team and Hadrian School will miss her very much.  However, we are sure she will enjoy her well earned and much deserved retirement!

Happy holidays everyone – It has been a pleasure working with your amazing children and we all have taken great satisfaction in seeing how well they have done and the progress and achievements they have made in school!

The children in NR2 have enjoyed another busy week of activities incorporating our Seaside topic alongside individual learning goals.

Music Therapy, Sensory Story/Drama, Jabadao, Sensory Circuits, messy play, Rebound and Hydrotherapy are just some of the things we have been up to.

We can’t believe it is almost the holidays with one more week to go! This year has just flown by yet again.  When we break up next Friday we will say goodbye to our dear friend and colleague Jan, who is retiring from Hadrian.  The staff and children will miss her greatly as she is a much valued, talented, fun and hard working member of our team.  We will definitely be keeping in touch with Jan and sure she will be popping in to say hi to everyone from time to time to tell us of all the things she is doing in her well earned free time!

We hope you enjoy the photographs of another busy, fun week  – Coralie and team.

Ready, steady go!

5th July 2019Coralie Forbes

Our KS1 sports day was good fun for our children.  We met up with the rest of our friends in the sports hall and took part in all of the fun events – both individual and team.  After the warm up there were lots to take part in – relay/sack races, javelin/beanbag throwing and the famous egg and spoon race!

Everyone enjoyed cheering for their friends and there was a great atmosphere – especially when the children passed the finishing line!

Well done to our little athletes – we were very proud of team NR2!

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Poised and waiting for ready, steady, go!

Having a warm up and stretch before the events

Wheee ….. the sack race was fun!

I held my spoon all the way there and back!

The javelin was my best event!

The sack was just the right fit!

Focussed and concentrating on that egg!

Bringing the hoop back to my team in the relay

Me too – go girl!

Tossing the bean bag was fun

Hadrian Art Exhibition

28th June 2019Coralie Forbes

Our children had the fantastic opportunity to exhibit their work in an Art Exhibition this week here at Hadrian School.  Many people visited the Exhibition to view, purchase or bid for some of the artwork.

The children’s unique pieces were framed prints of marks/patterns made on mirrors with paint.  We constructed our own class studio for the children where we used soft music and subtle lighting to create a calm atmosphere for the children to relax and enjoy being creative.

The evening was a great success with lots of people milling around looking, admiring and interpreting all the fantastic displays – which came in many forms such as paint, sculpture and collage.

We were so proud of our children and their brilliant efforts and creations.  We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.
