News from some of our Topic activities

21st June 2019Coralie Forbes

This week the children have been enjoying some activities relating to our topic ‘Under the Sea’.  Our floor gym/sensory area now has a seaside theme and we have introduced some new songs/props/instruments into our music and movement session.

Our sensory story ‘Kipper’s Sunny Day’ relates to all things ‘seaside’  from sand and seaweed to deckchairs and ice-cream!  The children are enjoying the story as there are lots of sensory elements to help tune the children into the story and reinforce key words.

Our sensory drama ‘Under the Sea’ is also giving the children opportunities to explore and express themselves.  By using lighting, resources and music we aim to create an ‘under the sea’ atmosphere.  The children are showing us what interests them and their reactions lead the session.

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

More teddy tales!

7th June 2019Coralie Forbes

Before moving onto our new topic (The Seaside) – Nursery/Reception 2 finished off the half term with a Teddy Bear’s picnic. Some of our parents and siblings were also able to make it too.

We began our adventure by playing ‘teddy tunes’ on our way to find the picnic.  To find where it was we all needed to follow the pawprints around the school grounds.  Once we got there everyone had a lovely time.  We had songs, musical instruments, picnic food and parachute games. It really was a lovely afternoon.

Today is also Battens Awareness Day and to highlight and support this everyone in School dressed in orange/bright colours – our whole school Assembly was an array of colour this morning!

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Off we go following the paw prints

Science and DT week!

17th May 2019Coralie Forbes

We have had a Science and DT extravaganza this week in school with lots of activities and events on offer for the children to explore and experience.  Our class particularly enjoyed the light/dark exploration room, outdoor bubble play, Starlab, the Science Fair and helping to make a cake for the bake off competition.  It really has been a fun and interesting week!

We also had a lovely day at Whitehouse Farm on Monday where they children had the opportunity to get close to some animals and take in all the sights, sounds and smells of the farm!  The weather was perfect as we explored the outdoor areas and we were lucky enough to be able to help feed some baby lambs – they must have been hungry as they were quite noisy!

We hope you enjoy the photographs of our busy and exciting week – Coralie and team.

News from Nursery/Reception 2!

10th May 2019Coralie Forbes

As usual it’s been another fun and busy week with lot’s happening in and out of class.

We were kindly invited by Pat Fox, our Chair of Governors, to visit West End Reform Church to explore a ‘knitted Bible’ display.  The children enjoyed being out in the fresh air taking in all the sights and sounds along the way.  As we walked around the display the children had the opportunity to look and touch the knitted characters from the scenes.  It was very impressive and so much hard work must have gone into the display!

We hope you enjoy the photographs from our visit and some of the other activities throughout the week.  We are looking forward to our trip to Whitehouse Farm on Monday and then taking part in Science & DT week with the rest of the school – Coralie and team.

Back to school – rested and raring to go!

26th April 2019Coralie Forbes

It seems everyone enjoyed their Easter break with staff and children returning well rested and with a spring in their step!  We are sure the sun has made the children grow over the last two weeks!

Our new topic for the term is ‘Teddy Bears’ so we will be changing our sensory play area to a ‘bear cave’ with lots to explore, and incorporating lots of ‘teddy’ themed activities into our lessons.  We will keep you informed of what the children have been experiencing and enjoying from this topic over the next coming weeks.

We are posting some photographs from time spent with Afra – our Music Therapist.  Once a week Afra visits us bringing her musical instruments along with her immense talent!  The sessions are mainly led by our children by way of their responses, preferences and interest. It is a real pleasure and privilege for us to be part of this therapy, and to observe the children responding and interacting so positively.

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Easter fun!

5th April 2019Coralie Forbes

The children have all enjoyed experiencing ‘Easter’ in class this week.  They have had fun playing in spring themed sensory trays and getting messy with chocolate and shredded wheat.  The children have also made cards for home by exploring paint and cotton wool to make their own unique chicks which were full of character!  We’ve also enjoyed singing our favourite Easter songs in class and assembly to remind us of this fun and special time.

The staff and children also had a great time at our school ceildh – everyone loved getting up and dancing to the live music!  The band were made up of our talented staff and Mr Rollings and Mrs Stokle did the ‘calling’ to help us all with the steps!

We are looking forward to our Easter Parade around the wildlife garden this afternoon to show off our bonnets we have made.

The Easter treats the children are bringing home have been very kindly donated by our friends from Stagecoach Buses, Walkergate College and Richard Knox (brother of our staff member – Lyndsey Allen.  Yum!

Finally, we hope everyone has a lovely spring break – let’s hope we get some nice weather!  Coralie and team.

Bounce, bounce, bounce!

29th March 2019Coralie Forbes

This week we thought we’d share some of our Rebound Therapy photographs from this week to show how the children access the trampoline as they work on their individually tailored programmes.

The children really enjoy this therapy which can provide many positive health benefits – particularly physical, as well as also promoting social and emotional well-being.

From massage and passive stretches to working in different positions to strengthen and build  muscle tone and stamina, the children really do have a great time!  As well as bounces and vibrations, we incorporate song to make the session even more fun and pro-active for the children – this allows for lots of communication by way of eye-contact, touch, movement or vocalisation.  We are very proud of our class rebound stars and the progress they are making!

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Visiting and visitors!

15th March 2019Coralie Forbes

Hi – sorry we had problems with our Blog last week but now we are back in business!

We thought we would share with you our fun day trip to the Metrocentre with the children.  We visited the Bear Factory, where each child was able to help make their own bear (which turned out to be a rabbit actually!) to take them home to snuggle with.  The children enjoyed joining in with the activities such as pressing pedals and switches to fill them with stuffing, choosing a heart for their rabbit and fluffing up their fur with the factory hairdryer!

After the Bear Factory we headed to McDonalds for lunch.  We then just had enough time to quickly hop onto the Metro Train for a fun ride around the Centre.  The bus journey home was fun too – singing our favourite songs to keep us awake!

The children also really enjoyed a visit from Zoo Lab last week.  There was something of interest for everyone – the children were very brave as they reached out to touch some of the reptiles, insects and animals. In fact they were much braver than some of the adults!!

We hope you enjoy the photographs – Coralie and team.

Mmmmm … which one do I want?

This one for me!

Pressing the foot pedal to make my rabbit cuddly

In goes his heart

Another brave girl!

The big, slimy snail looked funny!

Ooops – back to the Metrocentre – all aboard the train!
