Hello and welcome to our class. We have had a lovely start to our Autumn Term and have loved getting to know all the new children as well as catching up with some of our children who have stayed with us from last year.

Here are a few pictures from our first few weeks back in school.

This week we have been exploring and mixing paint using brushes, sponges and in Dale’s case – our faces!

In science, we planted some cress seeds. 3 days later and they have already started to grow nicely!

In literacy we started to learn about the ‘m’ sound. Here is David doing an excellent job at saying ‘mmmmmmmmmmm’

We also have been looking at different ways to record data in maths. We asked a question “what is our favourite snack?” and asked our friends to find the answer. We recorded the results in a simple pictograph. (biscuit won!)

This week we started our new science topic, ‘Plants and animals in the local area’. In class we made some predictions about what plants and animals we thought we might find around our school grounds, then went outside for a look to test our predictions. We made sure to take Ipads so we could collect evidence of what we found! We found lots of different flowers, worms, woodlice and even a ladybird! We found a dog, a cat and lots of birds! Unsurprisingly, we didn’t find a crocodile!

On Thursday it was World Book Day! We had some fantastic costumes and had a day full of reading and storytelling. Have a look at some of our costumes!

This week we had lots of fun bowling! We have been learning about pushes and pulls in science, so decided we could try out our ‘pushing’ skills and have lots of fun at the same time!

As always, we have been working hard on our individual outcomes. Here’s Sehrish doing some fantastic walking!

This week we have had lots of fun exploring in sensory art. Our art topic for the half term is ‘box sculptures’, which has meant lots of box exploration! We have really enjoyed filling and emptying lots of different boxes with lots of different materials.

Our favourite thing we did this week was going to see our school bus! We all took turns at being the driver, buying tickets and finding a seat. Of course we learned lots of bus related signs and vocabulary. We loved the bus so much we even had our snack on it!

On Monday we celebrated Chinese New Year! Our class taught the whole school how to count 1-5 in Chinese and Sofia was so brave and sang a song in Chinese! Mr Rollings was so impressed he gave her a ‘red envelope’.

In art we continued to learn about sculpture by visiting the Angel of the North! We were impressed with how big the sculpture was and loved trying to copy the Angel by holding out our arms. When we got back to school we set about making our own big class sculpture!

We continued to work hard as always in phonics by sorting objects beginning with the letter sounds ‘satpin’.

This week we had a lovely walk to Morrison’s to buy ingredients for our cookery lesson. We braved the wind and cold and walked all the way AND back. In Morrison’s we bought lots of different types of fruit including mango, pineapple, kiwi and strawberries.

We all thought we deserved a treat for walking so far, so we had some juice and a biscuit in the Café. Everybody was really well behaved and we were fantastic representatives for Hadrian School.

Happy New Year! We have all settled back into school and had a lovely week. This week we have been working on our self help skills – dressing and spreading as well as working on our physical skills in rebound.

We started sing school sessions on Wednesday which will continue for the rest of the term. We look forward to learning lots of new songs!
