Happy Friday from Dave’s class!

24th March 2023Dave Robinson

Morning everyone, Happy Friday! Only one more week of Spring term 2 left before a lovely long break for Easter, who else is already excited for copious amounts of chocolate for two weeks straight?!

This week in Dave’s class we’ve had such a fun time, with so many sessions being packed full of interaction, exploration and communication. We’ve had some of our all-time favourite sessions, like messy cookery, soft play and art, and also explored some brand new topics like baking and decorating our very own, very special Easter cake!

We also enjoyed another incredible whole class session of Hydrotherapy; which is easily a class-wide favourite. Check out the photo attached to see all of us thoroughly engaged with our grown-up and having a blast listening to our new soundtrack, complete with very fun actions!

We’ve also had great fun in our art topic of textiles and materials this week; we loved exploring all of the different textures and getting the chance to feel them on different parts of our body, our Georgie was very happy to try on a funny gorilla wig as you can see!

We hope everyone has a fun-filled and happy weekend, with plenty of rest time after all of our adventuring this week! See you all on Monday for one final Spring week of fun – Dave and team 🙂

Another fun week in Dave’s class!

17th March 2023Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, Happy Friday!

Despite it being a shorter week here at Hadrian School, we’ve managed to fit all of our usual fun and learning into the three days we have had together!

More snow coming down this week was a magical surprise; we thought we’d seen the last of it last week! We made sure to wrap up warm again and ran outside to make ourselves the perfect class 6 snowman, he’s looking pretty good don’t you think?!

Some of our class were also lucky enough to take part in a mini Holi celebration with our friends in Jess’ class on Tuesday of this week. We loved getting messy with all of the powdered paints and seeing all of the beautiful colours being used. Luckily we had our usual hydrotherapy slot on Tuesday afternoon, which gave us the perfect opportunity to get a good shower afterwards! Check out our whole class absolutely thriving during our session in the pool.

Finally, we’ve been hard at work trying our hands at pottery this week in order to make some very special presents in time for Mother’s Day this Sunday! We loved sitting around the table together and working one-to-one with the grown-ups, and we all did some truly amazing work. Our special creations have been drying out over the strike days this week, just in time to be sent home with the class on Friday!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and we hope everyone has a lovely Mother’s day on Sunday! – Dave and team 🙂

A birthday and some snow days!

10th March 2023Dave Robinson

Good morning everyone, happy Friday! I hope everyone is wrapped up nice and tightly while reading the blog this week, what a cold morning it is! There’s been a team effort to get the school open this morning, with some truly wonderful staff out since the early hours shovelling snow off the paths and gritting the car park. Huge thanks to them and a massive well done!

We’ve definitely been making the most of the snow days this week here in Dave’s class; Thursday morning we bundled everyone up in their snowsuits and had a wonderful time playing in the snow, sledging down the hills and even having a snowball fight with our friends in Phil’s class! (Some of the grown-ups definitely got a bit more competitive than the children!) Check out some photos below of us loving our playtime!

We also celebrated a special birthday this week, with our lovely Isla turning 21 on Wednesday! The grown-ups celebrated with a special breakfast before school, and set up banners and balloons around the classroom for us to interact with. On Wednesday afternoon we had a party for Isla in class with some of our friends in Loveday’s class, playing some of Isla’s favourite songs and getting our dance on, before a special treat afternoon snack of cake and party food! Isla is an incredible and invaluable member of the team here in Dave’s class, who’s always happy to get stuck in and take part in a bit of silliness. Happy birthday again Isla, we’re so lucky to have you working alongside us for the whole year!

Have a great weekend everyone, stay wrapped up warm against this cold weather! Can’t wait to see everyone on Monday for another week of fun! – Dave and team 🙂

Happy World Book Day from Dave’s class!

3rd March 2023Dave Robinson

Hi all, happy ‘first Friday in Spring 2’!

This blog is going to be all about how we celebrated World Book Day 2023 here in Dave’s class, and let me tell you we all had the most brilliant day!

The grown-ups thought long and hard about what they could be, but then Emma told everyone she had lots of blue face paint at home… so there was only really one clear choice, wasn’t there?!

Can you guess?

How about if I tell you that the grown-ups have spent nights cutting out toadstool houses, sourcing white hats and practicing our Belgian?

That’s right, specially for World Book Day 2023, class 6 transformed into The Smurf Village!

We all loved exploring all of the forest themed resources set up around the classroom, and singing some happy smurf songs with our friends from Phil’s class, before dashing off for our slot with the wonderful ZooLab!

ZooLab are an amazing group who organise special workshops in school that combine storytelling and up-close encounters with incredible creatures. We were lucky enough to meet Rob, our lovely presenter who walked us through a very special animal hunt and introduced us to five very special guests; William the snake, Matilda the cockroach, Turbo the Giant Snail and even Bellatrix the tarantula! We were all incredibly engaged and incredibly brave, touching and petting even the creepiest of the crawlies! Check out the photos below to really see just how much fun we had with ZooLab, thank you so much for coming in!

Finally in the afternoon we got to enjoy a very special World Book Day assembly, where we played three very fun rounds of the masked reader, sang along to songs from books like ‘A squash and a squeeze’ and then our Alexis and Emma took to the catwalk to show off their costumes!

We all had so much fun celebrating World Book Day together, and already can’t wait for next year!

Check out the posters our Jess made for the members of our class, how cool do we look on the front covers of our books!

Have a lovely weekend everyone – Dave and team 🙂

Valentine’s Day and an early Pancake celebration!

17th February 2023Dave Robinson

Happy last day of Spring term 1 everyone!

This one has been a quick little half-term, but we’re so thrilled with the progress that every single pupil has made since returning from the Christmas break. We’d love to give a special mention to our wonderful Isaac, who is our half-term achiever for this term and was celebrated last Friday! Isaac is a gorgeous, bright and loving child, who has amazed us in his progress in every area of school life and is a joy to have in class everyday. Well done Isaac, we’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see what achievements you have in the final half of the school year!

On Tuesday this week we had a special assembly to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day; just because Pancake Day falls in our week off doesn’t mean we have to miss out on the fun at School! We got to watch Mr. Rollins and Alex make pancakes, have a flipping competition and then even got a taste of their creations, we won’t say who our winner was though!

Back in class, we celebrated Valentine’s day with a red-and-pink, heart themed exploration session and exchanging our hand-made cards! We all had lots of fun and definitely felt the love, we hope you all enjoyed receiving our special cards too. Check out the photos below to see our big smiles, and some looks of intense concentration!

Have a great week off everyone, we can’t wait to rest and recharge ready for spring term 2! – Dave and team 🙂

It’s Friday again!

10th February 2023Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, happy Friday! We hope everyone has had as good of a week as we have here in Dave’s class.

We’d been a few members down in previous weeks due to illness and holidays, but this week we’ve seen the return of almost all of our friends, and we’ve definitely made the most of being reunited again!

With Valentines day coming up next week, we thought that our art lesson on Tuesday would be the perfect chance to make our loved ones some gorgeous cards and express our love. Check out the photos of some of us proud as punch with our creations below, and keep an eye out for the finished cards coming home in our bags next week!

The incredible TimbaDash theatre have been in school this week, to give some of our friends in other classes the very first look at their new performance piece! We graciously gave up our jabadao slot this week in order to support these performances, and so as an extra-special treat we took part in a very fun P.E lesson with our friends in Phil’s class instead! We all had a lot of fun getting to practice our climbing skills on different equipment, and some of our braver classmates even took a turn jumping off a tall set of steps onto a crashmat!

Us grown ups would like to say a huge thank you to all of our friends who have supported our class in various ways recently; through some incredibly generous donations of our wish-listed items and lovely toys from your own toyboxes at home, sending in yummy treats for snack times or helping us out with our appeals for extra wipes (which we seem to always be in dire need of!) We’re very lucky to have some lovely friends all over helping us to make sure we offer our class the very best, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all of the support and encouragement we receive.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and comes back into school on Monday ready and roaring to smash our last week of Spring term 1 out of the park! – Dave and team 🙂

A ceilidh dance and creating our very own planets!

3rd February 2023Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, happy Friday! We’ve had a great week this week, full of excitement and exploration, with only some minor tweaks to our usual timetable due to the industrial action that took place on Wednesday. Despite the four-day week, we’ve made sure to fit in all of our usual, time-tabled fun and even some extra-special sessions too!

On Monday, we had a special messy art session that tied in with our ongoing topic of Space. The grown-ups looked up some different techniques and provided lots of unusual items so that we could create our very own planets! With salt, sand and rice being added to paints and glues, we created seven very special and unique planets of all different colours, shapes and sizes. Once these had dried, they made the perfect decorations for our Space sensory story on Thursday; the grown-ups even liked them so much that they’ve used them on a special display in our classroom!

On Tuesday we took part in our very first Ceilidh of the year! This special party is one of our favourite traditions that we celebrate here at Hadrian School, and so we loved getting the chance to come together with the whole school and having a good dance to along to the live band’s beat!

We’ve had so much fun this week, and can’t wait to do it all again after the weekend! We’ll see you all on Monday to begin the last fortnight of this half-term (how the time has flown!) Have a great couple of days off everyone! – Dave and team 🙂

Feeling free!

27th January 2023Dave Robinson

We’ve had a very busy week as always but have especially enjoyed working on our physical skills in Hydro, Music and Movement, Jabadao and Rebound. We love dancing and moving our bodies in different ways. We have all worked hard climbing, crawling, spinning, floating and bouncing.

We love feeling free and having the chance to explore different stimuli both in and outdoors. The theme for our sensory exploration this half term is ‘circles’. We use bubbles, balls and much more. In art we made some wonderful colorful planets to use in our space topic.

Looking after our mental and physical well-being is a very important part of our class. Friday afternoons are all about self-care and winding down. We have enjoyed a well deserved massage and other spa treatments.

Well done on another amazing week you superstars! Have a fantastic weekend 🙂

Our weekly trip to Space, snow fall fun, and Lunar New Year!

20th January 2023Dave Robinson

Wow, what a busy week we’ve had! As you can probably guess from the title of this blog, we’ve had an awful lot of incredible exploration and tonnes of fun here in Dave’s class this week.

Firstly, Gung hei fat choy or Happy Lunar New Year to all of our friends celebrating this weekend! Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous year of the Rabbit! We’ve spent time this week learning all about the origins of the Lunar New Year and working out our Chinese zodiac or ‘Shengxiao’ signs (an Ox is writing this blog!), exploring traditional Chinese art styles during our art lessons, and exploring lots of vibrant materials during our classroom play sessions. We’ve had a wonderful time discovering a new culture, and learning all about another special celebration.

We’ve have had great fun enjoying the first (and second!) snow falls of 2023. It’s was incredible to see the excitement and joy on our class’ faces, and we couldn’t resist bundling some of our braver pupil’s up to enjoy the weather, just look at how happy those faces are!

We explored our vegetables in cookery on Wednesday with carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms all being on the menu. We chopped and grated, squashed and squeezed, and some of us even had a little nibble! We had a lot of fun, and showed great levels of engagement and curiosity.

Our weekly trip to Space and beyond went without a hitch on Thursday, we all loved exploring the lights in particular this week which was aided by the gloomy, dark day outside!

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend, see you on Monday everyone! – Dave and team 🙂

Hello 2023!

13th January 2023Dave Robinson

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful festive break, with plenty of time for rest and recuperation amongst the hustle and bustle of Christmas time!

We were so excited to see our little class on Monday and couldn’t wait to start exploring all of the new topics and lessons we have planned for Spring 1 (who else can’t believe it’s already the Spring term?!) We took it at a slower pace on Monday and Tuesday in order to help readjust to our school routines; so have enjoyed time playing, creating messy art and exploring music, but come Wednesday everyone was right back in the swing of things like we’d spent no time away!

Our new sensory story topic for this term is ‘Space’ and so on Thursday we were amazed to open the classroom door and be transported away to the Milky Way! The adults had created lots of different zones to explore and discover, along with writing a very special story for us. We followed the story, working together to help build our rocket and blast off to the Moon! We all had a wonderful time exploring, and already can’t wait for our next trip into Outer Space!

We’d like to send a special shout out to our lovely William, who received our certificate in assembly today! Will has had an incredible first week back to school; remaining regulated for extended periods of time and displaying lots of amazing engagement in lessons. Well done William, we’re so proud of you!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, see you on Monday! – Dave and team 🙂
