Stepping back in time!

21st November 2019Ellen Jankowski

We travelled back in time to explore old houses, shops and transport at Beamish this week! After learning the rooms of the house and what tools we use now for household chores, the children helped out Mrs Hinch as she tidied her pit cottage. They picked up the old toys, emptied the bed pans, swept the floors, and shined the brass and the shoes too. They also washed, dried and ironed the clothes and cleaned carpets by beating them! They had so much fun and it was amazing for the staff to stand back and hear/see them using the key vocabulary we have worked on this term – rooms of the house, household objects, ‘old’ and ‘new’. Their behaviour was impeccable and we were so proud to hear Beamish staff commenting on their manners and behaviour too!

We hope they carry on being helpful with the chores at home!

 Have a wonderful weekend!

Meet Quacky!

14th November 2019Ellen Jankowski

This week we have had lots of fun for Children in Need! The children made a class mascot and called him Quacky! They also made lovely ducky hats to wear for their run tomorrow! We drew and coloured in ducks as part of the colouring competition and Jack was our winner! Well done Jack! We also got into the Children in Need spirit by making some biscuits – under Quacky’s expert guidance of course!! Quacky even joined us for lunch and ate some of Ella’s curry!

Tomorrow the children will take part in a sponsored fun run in the Sports Hall. Thank you so much for the sponsorship that has been offered so far – there’s still time to sponsor your child if you would like to!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ellen, Ray, Kairen, Sharon, Paula and Clare x

Coffee morning

24th October 2019Ellen Jankowski

Thank you so much to those of you who attended our coffee morning today! The children loved showing you around their classroom and the staff team all commented that they have learnt so much from chatting to you all and observing you communicating and playing with your children. The relationship between school and home is so vital so we are very grateful for your support!

Have a wonderful half term! We look forward to seeing you all on the 4th November.

Huffing and puffing!

17th October 2019Ellen Jankowski

This week we all enjoyed a lovely yoga session around our class story of The Three Little Pigs. The children were all so focused and engaged, trying hard to copy the postures and enjoying huffing and puffing the voils when the Big Bad Wolf came to town! A very lovely session!

We cant wait to see you all next Thursday morning for our class coffee morning!

Toon Toon!!

8th October 2019Ellen Jankowski

We had an absolutely wonderful trip into the city centre today! As part of our ‘Where we live’ topic, we explored our beautiful city. We saw so many wonderful sights and landmarks on ‘Ellen’s Sunshine Bus Tour’. We disembarked at the Sage and Baltic and then walked across the Millennium Bridge. We had a lovely picnic in Jesmond Dene, visited the animals then went on a drive back to school via the Angel of the North. The children were such a credit to school!

Posting letters

3rd October 2019Ellen Jankowski

We loved reading the Jolly Postman this week! We talked about addresses and the numbers on our houses. The children loved opening envelopes to see what was inside and looking at the different stamps. After sticking our addresses onto envelopes in the correct order and adding a stamp, we went on a walk to find a post box. The class were so excited when we found one!!

Back in school it has been wonderful to see so many of them playing post offices in our writing area – writing letters, sticking stamps and delivering to their friends.

Next week we are off on a trip around the City Centre on Tuesday! We can’t wait to see the sights.

Trip to Ikea

26th September 2019Ellen Jankowski

This week class 2/3 went out on their first trip together. As part of our foundation subjects topic work, we have been learning all about the different rooms in our houses – the names, signs, contents and the things we do in each room too. In Ikea the children looked at the different room displays and decided which rooms they were. We also looked at the different pieces of furniture to decide where they would go and what activities we would do in each space. We had lots of fun pretending we were cooking, watching TV, sharing a meal and putting the baby to bed! It was great to see them all applying their knowledge in a ‘real life’ setting, the communication and role play we saw was fantastic! We finished off our trip with a visit to the café for a snack – if would be very rude not to sample some of their lovely Swedish treats! They were all so well behaved and a real credit to school.

Sensory story

19th September 2019Ellen Jankowski

First of all sorry for the delay in our class blog! There have been a few technical issues which have now been sorted! Yey!

The children continue to grow in confidence in their new classroom and are really starting to show us what they can really do! We are learning all about where we live this term and this half  term we are focusing on our homes. In our literacy lessons, we have enjoyed a sensory story of ‘Peace at Last’. Ray has been a great ‘Mr Bear’ and the children all love waking him up with different things!! We have also been learning the signs for different rooms – see if your child can remember these at home.

**On Monday we will be taking our first trip out to Ikea. We will be looking at the different rooms to see if we can guess where they would go in a house – and of course we’ll have a little trip to the café! We would like to ask for a contribution of £1 to cover the price of a snack and a drink.**

Welcome to Class 2/3

5th September 2019Simon Hall

We have had the most wonderful week getting to know each-other in class 2/3! We have 12 lovely children and 6 amazing adults who will make up the 2/3 gang and we have all had so much fun exploring our new classroom environment and building relationships with each-other. Soon we will send home a copy of our timetable, but until then here are a few key pieces of information you will need to know this year:

PE

Our PE lesson will be on a Tuesday morning. Please send in shorts and a t-Shirt for your child to wear in this session. We will send these PE kits home at the end of each term.

Swimming

Some children will access hydrotherapy sessions on a Thursday afternoon, we will ask these pupils to send in the appropriate kit, including swim nappies.

Snack contributions

A huge thank you to those of you who have already sent in snack items for the children! We  really appreciate any contributions you could make for our class snack time, especially if your child likes any specific snacks or drinks. This time is an important part of our communication curriculum and without your kind donations, such as biscuits, fruit or yogurts, we would not be able to run these important learning opportunities.

Personal Care

Could you please make sure we have a supply of pads / pull ups, spare clothes and wipes in school for your child. We will let you know when your child is running low.

Coffee morning

As a team we are really looking forward to working closely with you and we would like to get to know you a little better by holding a coffee morning later in the term. We will send a letter out when we have organised a date for this. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Our main method of communication will be in the home-school diary and this blog. We hope you love looking at photos on our weekly blog and hearing about your child’s day in the diary but of course, if you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.

Goodbye & Good Luck!

19th July 2019Simon Hall

It has been an emotional week for everybody this week. We said goodbye to all of the children in year 6 on Thursday as they all go off to their new schools. It has also been emotional as today is our last day as 3A. We have had a lovely time with all of the children. They have all tried so hard over the past year and worked incredibly hard. We are sad that we won’t have you all again next year but we know that you are all moving into some lovely new classes and we wish you all the best next year.

Here are some pictures of our lovely children taking down our tents last Friday, having some ice pops & having a great time playing on the trim trail.

Goodbye and good luck everyone!
