Come on baby, do the Locomotion!

11th March 2020Ellen Jankowski

Today class 2/3 went to Locomotion – The Railway Museum in Shildon. This trip was part of our humanities topic on trains and it was fantastic to be able to allow the children to get close to and experience different trains. The children were so excited to explore the fantastic museum and we found electric and steam trains, big and small wheels and even a carriage made for the Queen! After lunch, the children had a wonderful time in the train themed playground. The highlight of the day was definitely watching the real trains zooming past! Excellent behaviour again from class 2/3, the team are always so proud to take them out and about!

Library Walk

9th March 2020Ellen Jankowski

Today we walked down to the Denton Burn Library to enjoy a story telling session. On the journey we focused on road safety and stranger danger and the children listened well and helped to look out for cars as we crossed the roads.

In the library, the group were very careful and polite as they explored the books and settled to read them with their friends and adults. We chose a selection to bring back to school and we will have a walk back in a few weeks to change them for different ones.

*Remember we are off on a trip to Locomotion on Wednesday this week – the children are so excited!*

Trains!

27th February 2020Ellen Jankowski

This week trains have arrived in our classroom and the children have been so engaged with their new topic! We have made pattern trains, name trains and enjoyed train role play in outdoor learning. The children are enjoying our new class story of ‘The Train Ride’ and have loved singing train songs. Choo Choo!

We have booked to visit Locomotion, the train museum, in Shildon on the 11th of March to see some real-life trains! I will send a letter home about this next week.

Printing

5th February 2020Ellen Jankowski

Our topic in art this term is printing. The class have been experimenting with different ways to print and this was a fun one….string! They had so much fun choosing the colour, dipping the string and watching as it made a mark on the paper. We are going to put their lovely work up in our classroom – pop and see it if you can!

Gung Hei Fat Choy

29th January 2020Ellen Jankowski

On Monday we had a wonderful Chinese New Year celebration with our Hadrian family. We watched a traditional Chinese Dragon dance, Lion dance and a short play which taught us the story of how Chinese years got their animal names.

Today in Food Tech, we made Spring Rolls. The children cooked completely independently – with only minimal support from the adults. They found the correct sized measures, counted the number of scoops and took turns with their partners.

Once the spring rolls were cooked, we had a very exciting snack time in class dressed up in traditional clothing and listening to traditional music!

Mixing in his stander – what a strong boy!

Dream team taking turns!

Carefully rolling…

Roll, roll, roll…

Ooops it rolled away Mason!

Great concentration!

Jessica was a fan!

Jack named all the ingredients on his new VOCA!

Eyah loved them!

Lucas was brave and ate new vegetables!

Doesnt he look amazing!

Our Chinese New Year party was lots of fun!

Ceilidh dancing!

23rd January 2020Ellen Jankowski

We had a fantastic time dancing with our friends at the Burn’s Night Ceilidh this week. We watched the adults show us how to do traditional Ceilidh dances then had a go ourselves. The children had such a wonderful time with their Hadrian Family! Let us know if any of you celebrate Burn’s night, maybe with some yummy haggis?!

Scrummy Strawberry Bites!

9th January 2020Ellen Jankowski

We wanted to show you the fantastic independent work the children have been doing in our food technology sessions. Each week they work with a partner and very little adult support to cook a different recipe. We use cup measures and the children are now great at listening to instructions to select the small or big cup and to count out the correct amount to add to their own bowls. They take turns well and even tidy and clean up at the end of the session! What independent superstars!

This week we made Strawberry Bites and the children cut all the strawberries themselves – this took a lot of perseverance and resilience as they kept sliding away! Of course their favourite part of the session was the eating part!

Have a lovely weekend!

Lights and shadows

28th November 2019Ellen Jankowski

Our topic in science this half term is ‘Light and Shadows’ so on Wednesday we had lots of fun exploring lights and trying to make shadows. This session was lovely as the children were so engaged and focussed that the room was filled with shocked silence. By the end of the session it was great to see so many of them matching shadows with objects and experimenting with how to make the shadows bigger and smaller!

Have a wonderful weekend!
