World Book Day!

4th March 2021June Ball

Today we are celebrating World Book Day!

We had a fantastic start to the day seeing all of our favourite storybook characters come to life! In our class we have had princesses, pirates, tigers and even a Gruffalo! Take a look!

The World Book Day celebrations have been going on all week! We have had extra time to read our favourite books, bake Alice in Wonderland cupcakes and even stretch our bodies in Storytime Yoga! The Hungry Caterpillar Yoga!

Today we have done lots of reading, had a whole school boogie via Zoom and then strutted our stuff on our class catwalk to show off our outfits! We then had a whole school assembly via zoom, it was lovely to be able to see all of our friends.

St David’s Day!

4th March 2021June Ball

St David’s Day!

On Monday we celebrated St David’s Day, it was certainly a day of indulgence as we baked our own Welsh cakes, whipped up our own Welsh rarebit and even got to try some of Mr. Balls leek and potato soup. Delicious! The fun didn’t stop there, we created our own Daffodils using egg cartons, card and paint. What a fantastic day it was!

News From The Giggling Googlers

28th February 2021June Ball

What a busy first week back. We are particularly delighted that we have James and Diana back with us. They both received a Weekly Achiever’s certificate for settling back into school so well.

We have been exploring the role of a Police Officer as part of our Humanities work. James received a medal for his excellent Police work.

Police Officer Thompson

We also set up two shops (Morrisons and Asda) We wrote shopping lists in our English lesson and then took our money to buy items.(we are learning all about money in Maths)

In Science we are learning all about healthy eating. We each made a plate of healthy and unhealthy foods. After we had made our plates we chose healthy foods to eat at snack time.

We continue to work on our Art pieces exploring the Four Seasons. We added some wonderful bits to our Summer piece. We have now taken down Winter from outside our door and we have replaced it with our Spring one. When the display is complete we will take a photograph of it to show you. We have a great plan for the 4 pieces which we will share with you soon.

We’re looking forward to World Book Day/Week next week.

Year 3 Team.

Fun in the snow and Chinese New Year!

26th February 2021Nadia Motie

Hello!

We absolutely LOVED playing in the snow when it arrived! Our favourite part was sledging down the Caterpillar Garden hill and also bringing the snow into class to explore as part of our messy play!

We have also been celebrating Chinese New Year in class, we explored Chinese food, traditional Chinese outfits and listened to Chinese music. It was great fun!

Sledging Fun!

12th February 2021June Ball

We have really made the most of the snowy weather this week, particularly sledging on our very own mini ski slope. How wonderful to go out of our back door straight onto the slope for some sledging fun. We used a big red tray, shopping bags and a proper sledge to slide down the hill. We were super brave and absolutely loved it. We didn’t mind the cold as we had the best time ever!

We hope you enjoy getting out in the snow. it won’t be here for long.

The Year of the Ox

12th February 2021June Ball

Today and yesterday we celebrated Chinese New Year and we’ve had a great time exploring different aspects. We watched a short video where two children explained how they celebrate Chinese New Year. We also revisited a favourite song Kong Hei Fatt Choy.

We made Chinese Lanterns and later dressed in beautiful Chinese clothes. We watched a Dragon dance and met our own Brian, the Lion. We even danced all around school banging our wok drum!

We finished our celebrations by tasting Chinese food. Some of the children were really good using chopsticks. What a great few days we’ve had learning about this wonderful culture.

Happy New Year!

What Makes Us Feel Good?

7th February 2021June Ball

What a brilliant week we have had celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week. Every day we have explored different activities and talked about feelings, especially about recognising different feelings and things we can do when we feel a certain way.

We have encouraged and supported good deeds and developed deeper friendships. As always we’ve been delighted that James has been able to join us via Zoom.

On Monday we tried mindfulness.

On Tuesday we made  badges to give to the special people in our lives. We also spent the afternoon in the Yurt where we played games together and ate the gorgeous banana cake we made in Food Technology.

On Wednesday we made Sensory Bottles.

On Thursday we introduced “Keep the Beat on the Cheap” a programme of activities which uses household objects to develop a sense of beat and promotes personal, social and emotional development. It was great that James could join us and Chester his dog was also involved.

And on Friday the children came to school in any outfit they wanted as part of “Dress to Express” day. We ended the week with a special visitor for the afternoon.

Phew, what a busy week and we loved every minute. We all really needed a feel good week.

We hope you have a good week end. Last week next week promises to be just as busy.

Year 3 Team.
