Another busy week in class!

19th May 2022Nadia Motie

We have had another very busy week in Class! We have been working hard on our physical skills as always! We love getting on the trampoline, having our daily massage and stretches, tummy time and even standing!

We have been exploring our new sensory story ‘Walking through the jungle’. The classroom was transformed into a noisy jungle with lots of different animals and smells! Our favourite in class was the noisy elephant and the slimy snake!

We also worked so hard on our communication during Intensive Interaction. Intensive interaction is an approach which promotes communication, such as eye contact, facial expressions, sharing attention and building strong and trusting relationships!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Another busy week in Nadia’s Class

6th May 2022Nadia Motie

On Tuesday our classroom was transformed into a jungle for our new topic. During our sensory story we explored lots of different animals; we especially loved the green jelly for the slimy snake, the hanging spider web in the trees and we could even smell a campfire burning!

We have loved getting messy during art, we chose our own colours by eye pointing, got messy with the paint and created beautiful butterflies, look out for our wonderful creations!

As always we have worked so hard on our physical skills this week especially during our Rebound therapy sessions. Rebound therapy helps us with our balance and sitting skills, increases or decreases our muscle tone, promotes relaxation and even supports with our communication. We are all amazing at asking for ‘more’ on the trampoline.

Nunsmoor Fair

28th April 2022Nadia Motie

Welcome back after our Easter Half Term! We have had a fantastic week back in class!

We had an extra special treat this week with a visit to the Fun Fair! We absolutely loved getting on all the rides, lifting our arms to go faster and using our voices to stop! We loved looking at all the flashing lights and watching our friends on all the rides!

What an amazing treat to welcome us back to school this summer term!

This week in Nadia’s Class

1st April 2022Nadia Motie

What a difference to last week! Despite the snow we have still managed to enjoy the start of spring in class!

It was our turn to look after the chicks in school this afternoon. We absolutely loved them, some of us were even brave enough to stroke and hold them with support!

We have also continued to work so hard this week on our physical skills, we love getting in our hydro pool, looking at all the sensory lights and using our arms and legs to splash our friends! We have also been working on standing, floating on our backs and on our front with less adult support!

We have also had some amazing communication wow moments! Using our voices and eye gaze to communicate with our friends and adults in class!

Spring has finally arrived!

25th March 2022Nadia Motie

We have had a fabulous week in class! We loved getting out in the sunshine, dancing with our friends, listening to music and catching the bubbles on our faces! We took a walk to the Caterpillar Garden; it was transformed into a ray of sunshine for ‘Marie Curie Day of Reflection’ to mark two years since the start of the pandemic. We loved walking through the tunnel feeling the wind on our faces, reaching out and playing with the balloons.
We have been working on our communication outside, especially to ask for ‘more’ bubbles and swinging! They seemed to be our favourite this week!
We have also been getting messy and creative to make some lovely gifts for Mother’s Day! We hope you enjoy all of the lovely prints and that you all have a lovely weekend!

Happy Holi!

18th March 2022Nadia Motie

Hello!

We have loved learning about Holi: The Festival of colour! Holi is a Hindu festival which celebrates spring, love and new life.

We have been on a journey this week through our sensory story. We loved the smell of the ‘bonfire’, feeling the confetti falling from the sky and looking at all the bright colours.

We have also been exploring our topic throughout different lessons in class. We have made our own Rangoli patterns in messy art and designed patterns using our hands and feet in bright coloured sand.

During water play our classroom was transformed into an amazing rainforest! We could hear the birds singing in the trees, feel the cool water on our hands and the wind in our faces! We could even smell pine trees and a sweet smell of oranges around class!

Whilst we have been exploring and enjoying all our sensory experiences we have still continued to work hard on our physical skills; sitting in a range of positions; independently and supported, on a bench, in a corner seat, over a wedge and in our standing frames!

After all that hard work we have finished off our week with a nice tranquil spa! We loved smelling the relaxing lavender, having our hands and feet massaged and relaxing with our friends after another busy week in class!

World Book Day in Nadia’s Class

4th March 2022Nadia Motie

Happy Friday! We have had a great week celebrating World Book Day with lots of special experiences and activities. Our theme this year was Peter Pan. We all took part in a sensory story which we all thoroughly enjoyed! We especially loved watching the sea and watching the mermaid splash about.

The main event was Thursday we had a fantastic World Book Day assembly. We all dressed up or wore our pyjamas and shared our favourite stories around class. We loved listening to all the story books and showed engagement throughout!

We then travelled to Tinkerbell’s cave where we used all our senses! We could smell the pine trees, feel the wind on our faces and see the twinkling fairy lights in the jars trying to escape! We could also hear the fairy’s singing in the background, it was so magical!

During our whole school assembly we watched some of our friends perform their favourite stories, participated in ‘The masker Singer Reader’ joined in with some singing and dancing, not forgetting our usual school catwalk at the end showing off all the difference characters and costumes! A fun day was had by all!

Kung Hei Fat Choi

14th February 2022Nadia Motie

Since coming back to school we have been exploring our new topic ‘Asia’. As part of our Topic we have been exploring everything related to Chinese New Year. This has included messy art, messy play, food exploration and music.

On Tuesday we had a whole school assembly to celebrate. We could smell all the lovely food cooking, listened to the music, dancing and watched our friends singing ‘Gung Hey Fat Choi’.

We have also enjoyed our messy play sensory sessions. We have explored different textures, boiled rice, dry rice, noodles, chopsticks and listening to Chinese music during spa and relaxation.

Our sensory story has allowed us to use all our senses to experience Chinese New Year. We listened to the music, watched the dragon dance and smell the incense burning, not forgetting the party cannon and lanterns to finish off!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

16th December 2021Nadia Motie

Last Friday we enjoyed our Christmas Class Party. We danced our socks off! There was lots of sensory exploration which we loved exploring with our hands and feet! We loved being silly with grown-ups, dancing by the tree and listening to all the Christmas music!

On Monday some of us enjoyed a Chaplin’s Christmas Panto followed by a disco in the Hydro pool.

Tuesday was Christmas Dinner day in school, we celebrated with our friends in our own way in class. We made the classroom smell of all the different aromas that you may find during Christmas time. We could smell cinnamon, orange and spices! We then enjoyed Christmas carols outside with all our friends.

Today was our special Elf day! Our school was full of Elves everywhere you turned! This was to start the fundraising for our new Hydro Pool. We all dressed up and partnered up with an adult for our Sponsored Contact Dance. We also participated in an Elf Run. We went in our walking frames, standers and in our buggies and raced around the corridors and around the Adventure Playground!

Tomorrow is our last day before we break up for Christmas. We have a lovely Christmas morning planned followed by a school Nativity in the afternoon.

Merry Christmas to you and all your family. We hope you all have a safe and happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back in the New Year. We can’t wait to see all your smiling faces back on Wednesday 5th January 2022.

Christmas is a time!

13th December 2021Nadia Motie

We have been getting into the Christmas spirit in class. On the 1st December we all enjoyed watching and listening to the advent assembly; singing Christmas carols and watching the official Hadrian School light switch on! The tradition at school is that the youngest and oldest pupil’s get to turn on the lights! Well done to our Evelyn who was so eager to press the switch! The lights look beautiful.

We followed the Christmas theme in class by organising a Christmas coffee afternoon, thank you all for your continuing support; it was such a lovely afternoon and we hope to see you all in the New Year.

We have also enjoyed our winter sensory exploration sessions; tracking lights and reaching out for snowflakes and stars!

In art we have been making lots of Christmas designs using our hands and feet, look out for our Christmas crafts coming soon!

As always we have worked hard on our physical skills; spending time in our standing frames, tummy time, walking and sitting skills, not forgetting a massage and relax afterwards!

We ended our week with a Christmas party and even had a visit from Santa!  We loved dancing with staff, listening to the Christmas songs and looking at the disco lights! Santa left treats for everyone in class!  (photos to follow!)

We can’t wait to continue the festivities this week!
