We Made It & Goodbye To Jess

25th October 2020June Ball

Well we made it through the first half term. We are so proud of all our children, families and also our Team for successfully completing the last 7 weeks. We want to say a huge “thank you” for all of your support in these very difficult times. We know that a few of our children are still not with us but hope you have felt part of our class through the activities on Dojo and also through the Zoom Circle Times and Assemblies. We very much hope you will be back in school soon. Our children as always have risen to the challenge and worked incredibly hard in face of all of the uncertainty.

We’ve had a really god last week including continuing to explore “The Gruffalo” story in the Caterpillar Garden and also spending a day in the Yurt.

We enjoyed listening to the story outside where we met the different characters. We then split into small groups to build the three different homes – Fox’s underground house, Snake’s Logpile house and Owl’s Treetop house.

On Friday we spent the whole day in the Yurt. What a great day we had and even had our lunch in the Yurt. We danced and sang, played musical instruments and also played games using the lycra.

And sadly we also said “Goodbye” to our lovely Jess who left us on Friday. We will really miss her but very much hope we will stay in touch and when it is safe to do so, link up with her new school, Gibside. We wish her and her family all the very best.

We hope you have a safe and peaceful half term and look forward to seeing you on 2nd November.

Babs, June, Jess, Sue, Louise and Ann.

Happy Half Term!

23rd October 2020Nadia Motie

Hello everyone!

We have had a very spooky themed week this week! On Monday we spent the day in the yurt and we had a special visitor to read us a story! Mavis the witch read ‘Room on The Broom’ and gave us all a sweet treat! We have had lots of autumn themed messy play and today we explored pumpkins and dressed up in our Halloween costumes! We hope you all have a fantastic half term, see you all soon!

Crawling, climbing, swinging!

16th October 2020Nadia Motie

Hello everyone!

We have had a lovely week this week, we have particularly enjoyed all of the crawling, climbing and swinging we have done both indoors during PE/Jabadao and outdoors in the Adventure Playground! We have also had a great time celebrating Black History Month, we have started our African themed music sessions and during messy play this week we explored shaving foam, this was invented by a famous black scientist George Washington Carver. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Exploring Autumn Continued

15th October 2020June Ball

We continue to explore Autumn linking it to the whole curriculum. In Art we studied different ways of making autumn trees and by making the most out of the outdoor space, we did a spot of paint splattering using autumn coloured paint. We will use the pieces as a background for our trees when we complete them next week.

In Science/Humanities we have started to think about different woodland animals and we began our learning by using the PowerPoint, “What am I?” We were delighted to be able to share this with our friends who are currently at home. Sophia and her parents joined us and Sophia came up with some great ideas as to what the animals might be. We are learning all about hedgehogs and began our learning by making a Hedgehog Hotel. We found out what materials we needed and then we placed it outside to hopefully be used by some friendly hedgehogs.

In Maths we have been using the natural materials we have collected to develop our counting skills and also to match amounts to numerals.

Finally, we are really getting to grips with Zoom and utilising it to connect with our children and parents at home. We have been “Zooming” our Circle times and also sharing what we are doing in class via Dojo. We want to praise our wonderful families for all the work they are doing at home and for sharing the work on Dojo.

We hope you have a good weekend

Get Moving!

9th October 2020June Ball

We had a fantastic free movement PE session in the school hall last week. We set out an array of different equipment and let everyone spin, jump, run, stretch, dance and crawl in any way they would like. It was great to see all of the children sharing, playing together and putting their own unique twist on the equipment.

Leni-Jayne had a brilliant idea of making the equipment into her own obstacle course! While Eyah took the chance to get her dancing shoes on and show off her moves. Everyone gave 100% to the session with huge smiling faces! Well done everybody!

Have a great weekend everyone!

A day in the Yurt!

8th October 2020Nadia Motie

Hi all! We had a lovely time last week spending the day in our school yurt! It was great fun exploring all of the new sights, sounds and textures. Some of us had music in the yurt and others played in the mud kitchen then we swapped over before having a lovely snack time together. We have also had lots of sensory fun last week with messy play, food exploration and outdoor learning, child led play and intensive interaction. We are loving getting to know our lovely group of children and they are building fantastic relationships with staff already, we are learning all about their interests and needs and will be planning all of our activities with this in mind. Over the next few weeks we will also be celebrating Black History Month so watch this space for all of our themed activities!

Autumn!

2nd October 2020June Ball

Our Topic in Class 3 is Autumn. We have been speaking about what Autumn is, what changes we can see happening in our environment and what things remind us of Autumn. The children came up with lots of different answers like leaves, hedgehogs, conkers, acorns and lots more. We are very lucky as we have a wonderful view of our Playground and all the different trees, so we are able to watch each day the changes that happen, leaves turning different colours and then falling off the trees.

We all went on an Autumn walk around the Adventure Playground. We had to find cards with Autumn things on. After we found all of the cards we then had a hunt around to see if we could the objects on the cards. We did very good looking and managed to find lots of leaves, acorns and sticks.

We covered the table with paper and then spread all of the leaves we found out on the table. We had Autumn coloured paints ready and the children then painted the leaves and they look amazing. After all of the leaves were painted we then poured glue all over them to make them stick to paper. It has made a beautiful Autumn display which is now hanging outside our class. We have already had lots of comments about how good it looks.

Some children then worked very hard to write and type the names of what we found on our Autumn walk along with cutting and sticking the pictures of the objects.

We also made some Autumn inspired playdough. We added some nutmeg to the playdough, it smelled exactly like Autumn! We then had an explore with the playdough and all of things we had collected fir cones, sticks, acorns and conkers. Some of us even tried to make a hedgehog with little match sticks and they looked FANTASTIC!

Our Day in the Yurt

25th September 2020June Ball

What a wonderful day we’ve had today (all of our days are wonderful actually!) but today was our turn to spend the day in the yurt. What’s the yurt we hear you say? Well the meaning of yurt is a round tent covered by material and used as a home for people in different countries and we are so lucky as we have our own yurt in the garden to use.

We talked together about how we could make the space warm and then we lit the wood burner. Very soon it was lovely and warm. We went outside and saw the smoke coming out of the chimney! We had toast and hot chocolate around the fire. After our snack we worked together with the lycra. We listened to different instructions and worked together to move the lycra in different ways.

After lunch we came back and continued our music and movement exploration based around the song “The Animal Boogie” We are learning about the different animals in the song and thinking about how they move. In our next session we will match musical instruments to the way the different animals move.

We also listened to favourite stories and sang together. We dressed up and used special scarves and danced to some wonderful Arabic music. What a fantastic day. We’re looking forward to our next whole day in the yurt next month.

We hope you have a good weekend.
