Solid, Liquid and Gas

18th October 2019June Ball

This half term in Science we have been looking at solids, liquids and gases. We have been learning about the three different states of matter. We found an amazing song called Matter Chatter on YouTube. We have been looking at changing states – freezing things, melting things and combining different states of matter.

On Thursday we had an experiment where we combined a solid with a liquid to create a gas. Everyone got their official lab coats on ready to be scientists! We had two experiments one was combining, in a bottle, water and Alker Seltzer tablets with a balloon on the top of the bottle. The reaction let off a gas that filled up the balloon!

The other experiment was, in a zip lock bag, combining white vinegar with baking soda and this created a reaction that puffed up the bag like a pillow! We all had so much fun doing the experiments.

Grange House Farm

11th October 2019June Ball

On Wednesday we all got our waterproofs and wellies on and headed to the farm. Once we got there we had a lovely walk around the farm seeing what things we could spot. We found some cows and some sheep. We also spotted some farm equipment like huge tractors and combine harvesters. The farmers told us what they were all used for.

After having a walk around the farm, we then went looking for conkers. Unfortunately we couldn’t find many. The squirrels had eaten them all up!

As you can probably tell from the pictures there were LOTS of muddy puddles. We had so much fun jumping in them and getting all messy. We were so muddy we had to take our wellies and waterproofs off before getting back on the bus.

Have a good weekend!

What a busy week!

4th October 2019June Ball

We have had a very busy week! This term in PE we are learning how to play Hockey. We have been working on how to pass the ball back and forward to our partners, making sure our Hockey sticks stay on the ground. Everyone has been having so much fun and hopefully we will have a full game soon.

On Wednesday we had our Harvest Festival Assembly. Each class had to bake different types and flavours of bread, in secret and then present them in the assembly and they were all judged. Ours was called ‘Hoglets’ – which is a baby hedgehog. We baked our hoglets and then we made our own nest to present them in. We had so much fun going outside and collecting leaves, sticks, acorns, conkers and lots more to make the nest. Unfortunately we didn’t win but it didn’t matter. At the start of the week we had made our own hedgehog quiz and the answers that went with it. We took this along to assembly and some of us from the class got up and asked the audience the questions.

There were lots of contributions for Harvest Festival, thank you to everyone who sent things in.

Every Friday afternoon we have a ‘Cosmic Yoga’ session. Everyone LOVES it! The past two weeks we have been doing a Star Wars story, and the weeks before that we did The Wizard of Oz.

Have a good weekend.

Mrs Ball, Jess, Babs, Sue and Carol.

The Right Photos!

30th September 2019June Ball

Due to technical difficulties,  the blog was doing funny things on Friday and the wrong photos went onto the “Let’s Explore” Blog.

Lets Print!

27th September 2019June Ball

In Art this half term we are looking at Printing. We are using different Printing Techniques and this week some of the children made their own printing blocks/boards using wood blocks and cardboard sheets which were overlaid with string patterns and then ink was added with rollers and a print taken.

Another group of children used marbles and worked in pairs to create prints from rolling marbles in a box. Other children used string clipped onto pegs to make a wonderful joint piece of art work.

Next week as at will be the Harvest Festival, we will use different vegetables and natural materials to make different prints and patterns.

We hope you have a good weekend.

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Jess and Carol.

Let’s Go Explore!

27th September 2019June Ball

What a creative bunch we are and with that in mind we are developing a Creative Space where the children can go independently to explore and discover a wide range of material and develop their own ideas. What is also wonderful is to see the children collecting a range of natural materials outside to bring into the space. Already some of the children are busy making different things and inspiring others to do the same. The children are also getting to know that they can go back and continue with their creations over time.

Trip to the Quayside

19th September 2019June Ball

On Tuesday afternoon we went to the Quayside as part of our Humanities topic. We were looking at different landmarks, statues and bridges around our city. We had a clipboard each and we had to see which ones we could spot. The first landmark we spotted on our way to The Baltic was the Tyne Bridge as we drove over it.

Once we got to The Baltic we went to the viewing box at the top to see what else we could see. Everyone had so much fun looking out over the River Tyne and spotting the different bridges, like the Swing Bridge which we actually drove back over on our way back to school. We also spotted The Sage and there were people on top of it!  We found it very funny at the top because everyone on the ground looked like little toy people, with little toy cars.

When we got back to the ground we had a walk across the Millennium Bridge. There are so many amazing things to see around Newcastle. We may go out again and look at the other landmarks in Newcastle such as, Grey’s Monument, Castle Keep, Eldon Square and the Civic Centre. We will continue to work on ‘What I can see when I visit Newcastle City?’

Welcome to Class 4

13th September 2019June Ball

Hello and Welcome to Class 4. Something strange was going on last week and we couldn’t post and then someone else’s Blog appeared on ours! Hopefully all has settled down now and you should be able to see the right Blog.

We would all like to say a big “Welcome to Class 4”. We are very much looking forward to working with your young people this year. Obviously we have the best class in the school! You should all have received your child’s timetable and also the different projects we will be working on over the next year.

As part of our work this half term we are learning more about each other and are creating special “This is Me” books. We are currently working on a Self Portrait Gallery which is looking good. As part of our work we each took a Selfie.

Have a great weekend.

June, Babs, Jess, Sue and Carol

21st June 2019Nadia Motie

Hello!

We had a fantastic class trip to Alnwick Gardens last week, it was a little bit rainy but this didn’t stop us having fun! We loved exploring the water features and gardens! We have also had great fun creating our entry for the Hadrian School Art Exhibition! It was a little messy but we were free to create and explore and we have produced a lovely canvas which will be on show at the upcoming exhibition in school! Hope you can make it along to check it out!

Have a great weekend!
