A Busy Week!

20th January 2023Jess Burns

Wow what a busy week we have had!

We have enjoyed exploring the recent snowfall. We wrapped up warm and went into the Early years play area where we made footprints and used buckets and spades to make snow castles. We also used the sledges in the Quad which was great fun. We took turns on the sledges and had races. Such good sharing and also our friends helped to pull us.

We had our second football session with Graeme. We are amazed at how quickly the children pick up the new skills Graeme is teaching us. They are all listening so well and trying hard to copy Graeme. He is super impressed with them too. We even finished the session with a game of Dodgeball!

We have also loved exploring activities around Chinese New Year. We watched a great video on C Beebies all about a Chinese family and how they celebrate Chinese New Year. We made some beautiful fans and yesterday we had a whole afternoon of exploring rice, coloured spaghetti and chopsticks, red dough and stars, Chines writing and colouring and Chinese puzzles. We finished the afternoon with snack time where we had noodles and crackers. Today we have a Chinese New Year assembly with a Dragon Dance, songs, music and food.

What an amazing week.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

23rd December 2022Jess Burns

What a fabulous last week we have had.

On Monday we were visited by Santa on his special bus. We all went on the bus to meet him and we all received a special present.

On Tuesday we had a delicious Christmas dinner and in the afternoon we sang Carols outside. Sadly four of our children were off school poorly but hopefully they will be back in time for some Christmas fun.

On Wednesday we went into the pool in the morning for a Christmas Swim and then we had our party in the afternoon. We have a wonderful time in the School Hall and met Santa there who gave each if us a present. We took them back to class to open. We love them. After our presents we had lots of Christmas party foods. Many thanks for sending in such delicious goodies.

On Thursday we enjoyed a range of Christmas activities including making special edible Christmas Tree Cones. Then we had an amazing indoor snowball fight! It was such good fun and better than real snow as it wasn’t cold!

Today we will all go to the beautiful Nativity in the School Hall. The children will be dressed as the characters form the story and we will sing Carols by candlelight.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your thoughtful gifts and for your  continued support. We hope you have a lovely Christmas/Holiday and that you and your children and families stay safe and well.

Jess, Babs, Labli and Corrie.

Christmas is a Time……..

19th December 2022Jess Burns

……for so much fun and laughter.

What a week we have had. The two main events however were our Christmas Trip out to the Metro Centre on Wednesday and our wonderful Show on Friday.

We packed up and got to the Metro Centre in good time to visit Santa’s Grotto. Along the way we saw lots of gorgeous animals and we also had time to stop and decorate a gingerbread man with the elves. We travelled through the snowy forest and then met the big man himself in the stable. We each sat with him and told him what we would like for Christmas.

After our visit we boarded the Christmas train for a tour around the Centre. The fun didn’t end there. We all went to The Bear Factory where we chose a class bear and brought him to life. He has been named “Bear” and he will be coming to visit you at home in the New Year.

The trip ended with our visit to Mc Donald’s which we all love. The children were so well behaved waiting for their meal. They were certainly a credit to Hadrian School. A fabulous day.

On Friday we performed “Rocking around the Christmas Tree” as part of the Hadrian School Christmas Concert. We were all super impressed with our class who performed perfectly on the day. All of the children joined in and it looked amazing. Our parents were very moved by what they saw. Very well done to you all.

Our Wonderful Cultural Diversity Event

9th December 2022Jess Burns

On Wednesday we were so lucky to be part of a wonderful afternoon of food, dance and music which was organised by Labli from our Team. There was a beautiful backdrop of colour and texture and a corner with very special instruments to explore. There was a delicious selection of foods to taste throughout the event and also an opportunity to have a henna decoration on our hands. Throughout the afternoon there were live singers and a dancer. We were able to freely explore the different activities and to join in with the singing and dancing.

What an amazing afternoon and we hope to be able to enjoy it again next year.

Have a good weekend and keep warm!

It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas!

2nd December 2022Jess Burns

Great excitement in our class as we dusted down the Christmas Decorations (once we could find them. We think the cheeky elf had hidden them!) and had an afternoon of fun exploring all of the interesting bits and pieces and putting up the tree. The room looks amazing and with the screen log fire burning today it was so warm and cosy.

This was timed perfectly for our lovely families joining us yesterday afternoon to explore both our Christmas and Space activities. It was a fabulous social occasion with families getting to know those people they hadn’t met before and also for staff and families to meet each other. We had a delicious buffet too of our favourite snacks and nibbles. We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and we want to thank you for joining us. We’re sorry if you couldn’t make it but don’t worry as we will have another get together in the New Year.

We’ve also continued our exploration of Space and are getting to know the different planets through a special song by Cocomelon. (have a look on U Tube under Cocomelon Planets song)GG

Goodness it’s the weekend already! Take care and see you on Monday for three weeks of fabulous fun.

Jess and the Team.

Up Here in Space………..

24th November 2022Jess Burns

We have introduced the children to our new Topic, SPACE. Part of the classroom is morphing into a Space Station and on Tuesday it was unveiled to the class. What an exciting time they had crawling into the Space Station where there were lots of activities to explore. It was wonderful to observe the engagement in the activities and the play and communication.

We are also learning new songs all about Space – 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer, Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and Up Here in Space. The children are really enjoying them and beginning to join in with some of the words. Tom our Music Therapist incorporated the Space theme into the Music Therapy session with instruments to accompany Zoom, Zoom, Zoom.

Watch this space as there is so much to come as we learn about Space and the different planets in our Solar System. (Already Idris names the planets!)

Work and Play

18th November 2022Jess Burns

What a busy time we have in our class where we work hard but also have time for play. (we are learning through our play too!)

This week we celebrated Oliwier’s birthday with a delicious chocolate cake and we also  made trifles in Food Technology. We are getting very good in a range of skills needed to prepare food which is a very important life skill. We can cut, chop, mix and spread and are making some delicious things which leads us nicely into our time in the Yurt this week. We lit the wood burner and very soon the Yurt was warm and toasty whilst it was very rainy outside. We chopped a range of vegetables including onions, garlic, carrots, courgettes and pepper and mixed them with tomatoes and stock and put them in a big pan on the log burner with pasta. It didn’t take long to cook and then we sampled our vegetable pasta. Gorgeous!

Today is Children in Need. We have decorated a potato as Pudsey Bear or should we say Woodsey Bear as he is a natural looking Pudsey. There is a little competition this morning in Assembly to find the best decorated potato. We will post photographs of the entries and the winner soon.

have a good weekend.

Jess and the Team.

The Busiest Week Ever!

14th November 2022Jess Burns

What an amazing week we have had. We have worked so hard every day on our own outcomes whilst having lots of fun too.

On Monday we had a fabulous Rebound session with Michael supporting us.

On Tuesday we read our Sensory Story and then made potions. In the afternoon we even squeezed in making pizzas. They were so tasty.

On Wednesday we went to Hydro and also making the most beautiful Poppy Pictures to take to our special assembly on Friday. We also squeezed in a visit to see the Fire Engine that came to school from West Denton Fire Station.  In the afternoon we went up to the Mud Kitchen where we got stuck in to raking up the leaves and generally having a good tidy up.

On Thursday we worked hard on our self help skills getting ready for PE. In our PE session we were responding to instructions and running races. We also worked with the parachute and balls altogether. We had a lovely cool down lying underneath the big parachute. In the afternoon we worked really hard on our writing skills, drawing patterns on the smart board and then choosing other activities in class to develop our pincer grip.

And on Friday we enjoyed our Remembrance Assembly which is always very moving. We finished the week off with haircuts and a party for Lola. Happy Birthday Lola.

We think we deserve the weekend off!

Fireworks Fun!

8th November 2022Jess Burns

We have been watching firework displays on the Smart Board in preparation for our own Firework Display at school. We have also been learning about the different colours and the Makaton signs for fireworks, hot and bonfire as well as the different colours. We also made our own firework piece of art outside. We changed into clothes for messy play and then went outside to throw pieces of string dipped in paint at black paper. We also loved using our hands and feet to add to the artwork. Afterwards we loved washing our hands and feet in trays of warm soapy water.

This afternoon the whole school went outside to watch our own firework display. Such beautiful colours but very loud! At the end of the day at snack time we made edible fireworks with breadsticks, icing sugar and sugar bits. Delicious! We may see some of you at the evening Firework Display.

Keep safe everyone.
