Growing and Seasons!

30th April 2021Tracy Gooderick

Hello everyone Becky here, sharing all the fun things that we have done this week in school!

This week, the children in our class have been continuing their new topic of ‘growing and seasons’. They have continued to read the story The Hungry Caterpillar and have been matching Red, Green and yellow fruit in our sensory group and the other children have been measuring and sorting!  They were given a range of different objects, that were the same but slightly different in size. They then had to sort them into groups of big and small. Throughout the lesson, I would place an object in the wrong circle and they had correct my mistake and tell me why I was wrong! they loved this!

On Tuesday Emma, Sophia and Nelson took part in a lovely sensory session based around hot and cold weather. They worked one to one with adults in our class and completed a range of different activities. They had hot and cold foot spas, hot and cold food, hot and cold clothing to try and different hot and cold electrical items that they could switch on and off ! They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and gave everything a go!

In Art we are learning about an artist named Andy Goldsworthy who creates sculptures out of natural materials. We watched a video of his work and pointed out all the amazing colours that we could see. We then made some salt dough and made sculptures of our own! They were amazing!

In Food tech we continued learning about different fruit and then made our very own Hungry Caterpillars out of the fruit we had chopped up! We also made smoothies. They were very delicious!

We once again had football with Sam. He provided many different fun activities for us and the children once again loved it!

This week we are very proud of Nafisa, who has been getting the mini bus to school every morning! Well done Nafisa!

We are also extremely proud of Nelson who is our new half term achiever!

Have a lovely Bank holiday weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday!

First week back!

23rd April 2021Tracy Gooderick

The children in our class have started their new topic of ‘Growing and Seasons’. They have been reading the story The Hungry Caterpillar in English and in Maths they have been matching red and green butterflies in our sensory group and the other children have been working with data! They have been doing surveys of favourite fruit in the class and counting how many people liked each fruit and recording their results! Very clever!

We have also welcomed our lovely student teacher Becky back and Becky has been planning and teaching some lessons. This week the children took part in Yurt day and they collected lots of lovely flowers and leaves that had grown outside and stuck them on a big class collage and painted them. It was lots of fun and very messy!

We have also been to the food tech room this week to start learning about the different fruits and the children tasted and learned the names of them. They really didn’t like lemon!!!!! And some people didn’t like the noise of the blender. It was very noisy.

The highlight of the week was football with Sam! We have a football coach coming every Thursday to teach the children some football skills. They LOVED it! and can’t wait for next week!

This week we are very proud of Sophia who has been joining in all her lessons and completed her first full week back at school! Well done Sophia!

We are also proud of Mehvish who has been using her new VOCA really well 🙂

Have a lovely weekend!

Hoppy Easter!

1st April 2021Tracy Gooderick

As last week we concentrated on chicks around our Easter theme, this week we were using bunnies as our inspiration! We dressed up as Easter bunnies and went on a carrot hunt! Then the children counted how many they had found. We did some sensory painting with carrots and went outside to collect leaves and flowers to make some lovely paste eggs. Then we had an egg rolling competition and rolled our eggs down the hill! Yesterday we had a Ceilidh with our staff band and enjoyed a lovely dance outside. Socially distanced of course. This afternoon we had an Easter Egg hunt.

Good news this week – welcome back to our lovely Emma! Emma had a trip to hospital last week but we are so happy to see her back!

Have a lovely two weeks off and we will see you all after the Easter holidays!

Maths, Maths and more Maths!

26th March 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have been concentrating on Maths! They have been having lots of Maths fun based around an Easter theme. They have been decorating eggs by rolling a dice, matching numerals and counting out decorations. They have also been playing games moving their egg around a grid by counting the squares to collect colourful eggs! Their favourite game was matching numerals to find baby chicks under the numbered eggs – so much fun! They also loved scooping the little eggs and chicks into containers and working on their fine motor skills in the tuff tray. Some children even used clothes pegs to pick them up! Such dexterity!

We also have lots of good news this week –

Nafisa is walking without her K-Walker now! She received our achievement certificate in assembly. Well Done Nafisa!

Also our lovely Yvonne has her husband David back home from hospital! Welcome home David!!!!! Yvonne has been off this half term recovering from Covid and her husband David has spent the whole time also recovering in hospital. We were so happy to hear he is now at home and we hope to see them both soon. We miss you Yvonne!

St Patrick’s Day!

18th March 2021Tracy Gooderick

Dia Dhuit (Hello in Irish) and a Happy belated St Patrick’s Day!!!

We were so busy celebrating yesterday we forgot to blog! We joined with Scott’s class to hold our annual St Patrick’s Day assembly (virtually of course) and it was a huge success! The children worked really hard on their Irish Dancing as usual and they created a performance to remember! I wish I could post it but the file is too big! I will look into getting this to everyone, it’s unmissable! We had dancing leprechauns and a very funny version of Irish Idol and Scott’s class made a fab video of the story of St Patrick complete with very funny out takes!!

The children have also been working on some other treats this week such as Shamrocks painted with fizzy paint in Science. The bicarbonate of Soda mixed in the paint made lots of bubbles when we dropped vinegar on them! So much fun. And of course they were working on their contribution to the St Patrick’s Day hat competition. Our class hat was made from mod roc which is just like plaster of paris. The children LOVED using this and smoothing it on when wet. The next day they all worked together to paint their creation and add decoration.

Emma modelled it beautifully!

As well as wearing green to school and  drinking green milkshakes they also had a special St Patrick’s Day breakfast of green scrambled eggs and potato bread. A fab week had by all!

May the luck of the Irish be with you!

World Book Week!

4th March 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week has been World Book Week in school and it has ended with an excellent World Book Day! The children in class have been listening to and getting involved in some lovely Sensory stories this week. They have been reading the story ‘Spots’. A large package arrived in class filled with spots of all different colours, shapes and sizes for the children to explore. We had lots of fun thinking about what could be inside the package! In the afternoon the children mixed lots of different paint spots with water in Science to see what would happen. They used powder paint, acrylic paint and oil paints. Some of the spots turned into splats! And the children got VERY messy!

We also read a traditional fairytale this week ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. The children used the props to act out the story and in the afternoon the used hot and cold, smooth and lumpy porridge for Sensory play. Again they got VERY messy!! But thoroughly enjoyed it!

On World Book Day Rachael organised a Dance Rox session linked to familiar stories for the children and they had lots of fun doing it! It was so uplifting and energising. In the afternoon there was a fantastic World Book Day Assembly as usual and lots of lovely costumes.

Another fantastic week and next week we are expecting all our class friends back at school on Monday!

Slime Slime and More Slime!

26th February 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week in our class the children have been working hard on their shape recognition and starting to match shape patterns. Max has been learning all about new shapes and their properties. Zack has been matching patterns and Emma, Nelson and Bilal have been staring to match shapes and colours. They have also been working on their Artist Bridget Riley and created their own optical illusions for our class display.

The highlight of the week was definitely our Sensory Fun session where the children got themselves covered in Slime and Jelli Bath! They thoroughly enjoyed the squidgey jelli bath and slippy slime. Some of them even had a slime swim! Yuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

World Book Day next Thursday – we can’t wait!

Clowning Around!

15th January 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week we have started work on shape and colour based around our main theme of Circus! The children have been learning lots about shapes and new colour names. They have had lots of fun with colourful frozen paint and made some lovely pictures. They have also been learning about Circus animals and listened to our new student teacher Becky read a story about an Elephant, just like the ones at the Circus. Becky read Elmer, one of the children’s favourite books, and led an activity with them to stick colourful squares onto their own elephant. They have also been learning a Circus Sensory story called ‘A Day at the Circus’ and tried making candy floss in an actual candy floss machine! It was delicious!!!!

They have been working on Circus skills like juggling, stilt walking, clowning around and plate spinning! They are very talented Circus performers!!!!

This week Mehvish got our achievers certificate for tolerating her new AFOs and we had some extra good news from Max who achieved his Block 1 Direct Phonics certificate as well. Max has been reading and spelling really well!

Feeling Festive!

18th December 2020Tracy Gooderick

This week we have had another exciting week of Christmas fun! We had our Christmas Party and played lots of fun party games. The best one was wrapping our willing volunteers up in toilet rolls and turning them into snowmen! It was A HOOT!!! We also had a socially distanced visit from Santa in the afternoon!

We also had a festive day in the Yurt this week where the children made Christmas hats to wear at their Christmas Dinner on Thursday. It was delicious! Thanks Irene! The children also enjoyed carol singing outside with our fabulous staff band and it really made us feel very christmassy!

Today the children will be taking home their bag of Christmas crafts which includes a lovely sock snowman they made this week. As well as cards, calendars and cakes! Next week on Monday our class will be coming to school in their pyjamas for a movie day and we are all getting MacDonalds breakfasts as a special Christmas treat. The children are so excited!!

Have a lovely safe Christmas and we will see you all in 2021!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
