“The Shed Project”

12th July 2019Julia Kelly

You may remember that some time ago we organised a tuck shop and raised a lot of money. Some of that money was to be used to develop the shed in the adventure playground into a lovely space/outside classroom. Over the past few weeks we have swept, scrubbed, papered and painted both the inside and the outside. We  have had carpet tiles put down and are busy furnishing it. We are so pleased with how well the children have worked on it and how well they have worked together. We are looking forward to unveiling it next week.

Fly Away Butterflies

4th July 2019Julia Kelly

Over the past few weeks we have been learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly. We have watched our caterpillars grow and turn into chrysalides/pupas and then magically become butterflies. Our clever children  have even learnt the word “metamorphosis” and know what it means. Yesterday we decided it was such a beautiful day that we should set them free. We found a Buddleia bush/tree which butterflies love and opened up the net home. Some stayed a while and some couldn’t wait to feed on the flowers. We could even see them feeding close up.

The whole cycle has been amazing to watch and we have all learnt so much about these incredible creatures (including the adults)

Our Best Trip Ever!

4th July 2019Julia Kelly

Today we went out on the last trip of this school year and what a way to end our year! We had the most fantastic visit to Adventure Valley near Durham. It was non stop action from start to finish. We started quite leisurely by visiting the animals and just avoided the spitting llama!

From here we went right down to the bottom of the park to explore Forty Towers Play Fort and the Pirate Galleon. We also managed to fit in a turn on the Zip Wire. This was more tricky and scarier than it looked but we’re such a brave lot that most of us had a go.

After this we stopped by the Go Karts and pedalled as hard as we could round the track. It was super hard work and also the sun was very warm indeed. We certainly needed some food and drink and so headed up to the café where we had our picnic and also pizza and chips.

We all loved the super big soft play which had everything but we left the best until last when we visited the Wild West Play barn. We have never laughed so much as when we were having a shoot out in the Cannon Saloon.

A most brilliant day and well worth a visit if you fancy going in the holidays.

Adventure Valley

1st July 2019Jess Burns

Hi everyone,

We had such a great time at Adventure Valley, the children were so brave with the animals and equipment. We started the day by feeding the animals and grooming a pony! They all were so excited and were making signs to the animals.

We then decided to explore the grounds and found 3 beautiful peacocks with their feathers displayed. We found some more birds hidden in the wooden castle, the children found the cockerel and his loud squawking hilarious. We then found some questionable fish and tried to feed them.

The children then found a huge trampoline and we all jumped on! Then we had to spent the afternoon in the soft play! Their favourite place.

Thank you,

Jess and the team

Forky!!!

28th June 2019Julia Kelly

Toy Story 4 has landed and we’ve been introduced to Forky! We’ve Googled him and now know a little bit more about him which is good because this week Richard’s Nana very kindly bought in a pack of creative materials so we could each make our own Forky. We worked together as a whole class to each complete a Forky. It was such a lovely activity to do and brilliant for our fine motor skills, communication, social as well as our creative skills. Each child took home their Forky and because we had lots of materials left we gave a pack to next door so they could make one too. Thank you so much to the generosity of Richard’s Nana.

Like The Baltic but Better!

28th June 2019Julia Kelly

After much planning,  the Art Exhibition finally arrived at Hadrian School and what an exhibition. We’ve been to the Baltic and other venues many times but we can honestly say our Exhibition totally blew them out of the water. It was truly stunning, both the exhibits and the way they were exhibited.

As you know, we’ve been working on our pieces for some time and finally they all came together and what a display they made. Family, friends and visitors came to the opening on Tuesday Evening and had a wonderful evening looking at all of the different, varied pieces of art. We were very proud of our display and delighted that some people had a go at making a foil Giacometti inspired sculpture.

We have visited the Exhibition with the children several times this week which the children have loved, particularly the videos in the Dance Studio. We are truly a talented school but we knew that already!

The Cheeky Charlies

27th June 2019Sharon Dodd

What a wonderful afternoon we had when The Cheeky Charlies Jazz/Swing/Singalong came into school. They had lots of different instruments to play to us and sang lots of different songs for us so we were able to have a dance as well as a singalong.  They were really good and we’re hoping they will come back to see us again soon.

A trip to the park and a bit of culture!

27th June 2019Elaine Quinn

It’s been a busy week for 4/5B! We started with a trip to the Rising Sun Country Park and the Tim Lamb Centre.  We had planned to go further afield but the weather forecast was very gloomy! We enjoyed our walk around the lake and spotted lots of different kinds of birds.  We also said hello to lots of dogs, out taking their owners for a walk.  We loved the soft play and the sensory rooms in the Tim Lamb Centre – we had lots of fun playing there.

We said happy birthday to Vikki this week, too!  We had a party and enjoyed eating a delicious cake that Susan had made.  There were quite a lot of candles to blow out!

Did you make it to our fantastic Art Exhibition?  There were so many beautiful pieces on display.  Lots of hard work had obviously gone in to making the art work and we enjoyed walking around the exhibits and seeing what our friends had produced.

Have a wonderful, sunny weekend!

A busy, creative week!

21st June 2019Elaine Quinn

What a busy week we have had!  We enjoyed a walk to the Community Garden at Scotswood on Tuesday.  What a beautiful place it is!  We wandered down the pathways, smelling the flowers and watching the busy bees pollinating the blossom on the trees. We had our snack in the sunshine before wending our way back to school.

We have been working hard on reading our personalised books and getting really good at looking at and understanding the symbols.

Have you seen how creative we are? We are making an icecream stand for our seaside area.  We are looking forward to ‘tasting’ some playdough Raspberry Ripple and Mint Choc Chip next week!

On Monday we are going on a trip to the Tim Lamb Centre and for a walk at the Rising Sun Country Park.  Please make sure your child has a waterproof coat as the forecast is looking a bit variable.

Have a great weekend!

Cafe

20th June 2019Sharon Dodd

Well the weather wasn’t going to stop us going out on Wednesday. We put on our coats, made sure our hoods were up and set off out for a walk. We did really well and most of us managed to walk all the way up to the café at Westgate Community College. We pulled some tables together so we had a big space and enjoyed a treat of crisps, biscuits and yoghurts for our snack – after all the adults had said we have worked so hard, not just this week but all year round!!. What a lovely morning we had.
