What a wonderful day we have had at the Metrocentre. We started our day by taking a train ride, waving at the shoppers as we passed them. After a quick refreshment stop we made our way to the Build-A-Bear Workshop. There was lots of different types of soft toys to choose from but we eventually decided upon one cream and one brown bear for the classroom. We all got a chance to stuff and put a heart into each bear before choosing a school uniform for  them. We haven’t chosen any names yet but will update you when we do. After that we were all hungry so headed off to McDonalds for our lunch which we all enjoyed. As we had a bit of time left over before the bus came back for us, we had a chance to visit the small Soft Play area at the Antiques Village. Wow what a busy but fun day we had.
On Thursday morning we had one final performance of flying and spinning before enjoying our last session in the afternoon. All of the children enjoyed one last dance and sing before climbing into the hammocks and getting a relaxing massage. Asanosi was very engaged, sitting and playing with the fan and jumping around with his new friends. Bradley was also extremely engaged when listening to the guitar play, dancing along to the tune… He sat independently for 45 minutes! Owen had a little spin of the ariel before staff got one final go of testing their skills. We ended the session relaxing and listening to an acoustic version of bye bye baby, Jackson even showed off his big voice, vocalising goodbye at the end of the song.
We started our week in celebratory style with a St Patrick’s Day assembly and an art session where we made beautiful glittery shamrocks. We spent ages selecting our green materials and sticking them on. We hope you liked them!
We have also been working hard in our Food Technology sessions where we made pitta bread pizzas. We had to choose the equipment we needed and toppings to make a tasty treat. Everyone is getting really good at using the tools to chop and grate. We did lots of sensory exploration and tasting. The end results were delicious!
The weather was nice enough for us to go outside for our communication group, this week. We have been working hard to say and sign stop, go, up, down, fast, slow, turn and push so we had lots of practise doing this in the playground!
We are visiting Washington Wildfowl Trust on Monday so please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear.
Thanks
Hannah
We are learning all about a Swiss Sculptor called Alberto Giacometti. His sculptures are very distinctive from other sculptures and the children are learning to recognise Giacometti’s work. (Google him if you are interested in looking at his work) We are making our own Giacometti inspired sculptures using different medium. We made a sculpture using foil having explored different shapes with our bodies and drawn them “stick man style” This week we made figures using bread dough. We made two each, one to bake, paint and varnish and one to eat! In PE we worked with a partner and mirrored each others shapes. The children were so creative with their bodies and worked so well together.
I imagine Giacometti would have been delighted with the work his sculptures have inspired!

Let the sun shine!
With the sun shining, we’ve had a lovely first week back to school. Taking full advantage of the of the unusually warm weather we all made our way outside for outdoor learning, where we found all the things we could hear and see. On the way around all of the outdoor areas in school we found some rather cheery animals that started to sing! We all had a sing along, and even had a dance to the hokey cokey. After all of the singing we decided we were ready to explore and see what we could find. So we all got out of our chairs for a good look around. Ella found herself in a tree, Peniel found a boat, and Billy found a tyre! Good searching guys!
With it being the first week of term we decided we needed a way to get messy while giving ourselves some energy! So for messy play we had Weetabix and Milk. The power food! Peniel, Shay, Joseph and Jordan had lots of fun crunching and mushing the Weetabix into the milk, we even noticed the Weetabix absorbs the milk like a sponge so Peniel asked for more milk. With all of the fun going on for the boys the girls decided they’d have some time in the thrive room where they found a GIGANTIC TEDDY BEAR! Ella and Kimberly fell in love and gave the teddy lots of cuddles, so we will go back to visit him soon!
Billy and Peniel got a lovely pamper this week. Peniel had a relaxing foot spa while Billy had a fantastic haircut. Billy sat so well while having his hair cut, nice and relaxed with a Thomas the Tank Engine book. Well Done Billy!
WOW, what an amazing performance we watched this morning when Bare Toed came in to school. They did acrobatic tricks and gave us a comedy performance with giant flies!!!        We were all mesmerized by their wonderful skills and talent.
We had a wonderful afternoon taking part in an EYFS introduction to play at Walker Dome. Along with 7 other primary schools we joined in with parachute games, relay races, bean bag balancing, balloon tennis and dancing – phew we were tired but it was great fun.
Last Friday our journey exploring the Arts continued and we found ourselves at the wonderful Baltic. The Baltic is an amazing place which always inspires awe and wonder at the interesting exhibits they have on display. We started at the top where we had a wonderful view of the Quayside.  The children could remember seeing the different sculptures on the Smart Board and were able to identify them. We came down a level and explored an interesting art installation by Heather Phillipson named “The Age of Love” which was a series of videos, sounds and objects. A little tricky to understand the meaning behind it but it was a very inspiring place to be in if not a little crazy. We came down another level and explored the sensory space where we had the opportunity to get involved in s range of different activities.
It was a quick visit but we are hoping to work with the Baltic in the near future on a creative project.

Hello and welcome to our blog! Happy world book day everyone, we have all had a wonderful day today! This morning we have had a story read to us by our very own Emma in year 6 and it was brilliant. We have had lots of stories and we have really enjoyed playing as the characters we have dressed up as.
In the afternoon we had our world book day assembly which was amazing. Year 6 performed their take on ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ to celebrate its 30th anniversary. It was superb and they really put on a show. We then watched Nathan read his own take on the Hare and the Tortoise which was brilliant.
We then displayed lots of the work we carried out with robots, showing off the books we have read and showing everyone how they influenced us to carry out literacy, numeracy, DT, PE and music, where we performed our song ‘The Robot People’.
We have had a lovely day today and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thanks for reading.
