It has been an exceptionally busy week for us doing lots of work in Science, English, Maths and RE., and at the same time having loads of fun.

Unfortunately we had no swimming this week, but we had an amazing time bouncing in Kangaroo Club. We also visited the music shack and tried to use all the equipment in there and played some Diwali music.

We celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, on Thursday and invited our head teacher and deputy head as special guests. We learnt about the story of Diwali in RE, then used all our creative skills and made our own Kandils (colourful paper lanterns) which we hung on our windows and ceilings as the Hindus around the world do on the day of Diwali. We all came dressed up in party clothes and ate a variety of different food that we had never tried before. Our Head teacher Mr. Rollings, Deputy Head Mrs. Stokle and the new deputy head Mr. Rayner were all amazed with the preparation in our class. They joined us in the celebration and danced to the Bollywood music.

In Maths we did counting and sorting objects according to different characteristics, we used tens frames and worked on number bonds, and some of us even worked on the inverse relationship in maths.

In English we read the story “Sparks in the Sky” and related it to our experience of bonfire night. We then got into groups and listed all the things that we could smell, taste, feel, hear and see when we are out watching the fireworks. The school gathered outside for a small firework display, sang songs and watched the fireworks.

In Science we learnt all about personal hygiene, the children discussed their morning routine and their bath time routine and then worked on a sequencing activity in their science books.

In Assembly this morning, we remembered all our loved ones and the children said a little prayer for them. Our Charlie got a medal for being a good friend and Kaleb got a certificate and medal for doing good work in Maths.

Last but not the least we were sad to lose Megan who went to Dave’s class, however we are happy to welcome Sam to our team- she has had a brilliant first week in year 6!
