This half term we have been exploring our fantastic city Newcastle upon Tyne. We have had a busy half term filled with lots of trips and fun.
Our first trip was too the Angel of the North. We explored the area and took lots of great pictures and played some lovely games. After our trip we were very inspired and we made our very own Angel of the North statues in our art lesson. We looked at all of the textures of the statue and how we could recreate them. We then created a beautiful background to copy the images we took.
The second trip of the half term was a tour of St James Park where we got to explore the inside and outside of the grounds. We looked at the changing rooms with all of the shirts in and the press rooms where the players get interviewed. We went beside the pitch and sat in the manager’s seat and found out all of the secrets and fun facts about the Newcastle united ground. Class 9 then had a lesson with Graham to put our new learnt skills into practice.
Next up we headed around Newcastle to see where we all lived and if we could recognise our homes. This was stemmed from learning about our family trees and our communities. We all managed to recognise our houses or our streets.
Our final trip of the half term was the Quayside too look at all of the buildings and amazing bridges. Whilst there we learnt more facts about the bridges and their purposes. We walked all of the way along and stopped for a cheeky ice pop in the sunshine. We then used our creative minds to create our own bridges with straws and glue to create the structure.
Class 9 have continued with their weekly horse riding lessons and have gained so much confidence. Nell has increased her confidence around horses and is now confident when stroking them. We were so amazed when she sat on a horse one session. Very brave!
We have been going to our local shops weekly to collect our ingredients for our food tech lessons. Our social skills and independence and awareness of others has improved this half term. We have been making Geordie delicacies this half term to stay on theme with our topic. We have made Pease pudding, stotties, bacon floddies and lots more.
We hope you all have a fantastic break over the holidays and cant wait to see you all back next week.
