A scientific week !

26th November 2021Elaine Quinn

This week we got our science heads on and did some fun experiments once again. We learnt about reversible and irreversible changes. We predicted whether or not different items would dissolve in hot or cold water. We got so good with our predictions and managed to get them right every time.

Through the week we have been perfecting our Math skills yet again. We have started to look at number sentences and solve them using our part part whole model. Some of us have even been reading addition problems and solving them independently. We are so clever!

Horse riding was yet again great hit. We all got to have a go at trotting on our horses. We also had to put or balancing skills to the test and tried to hit targets with different objects. We have thoroughly enjoyed our Horse riding and we cannot wait to make the most of our last 3 weeks of lessons.

Once again we have had Graham back in school to deliver his weekly football sessions with Rachael’s class. We are loving working in a team with our friends and playing really fun games.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

Children in Need week

19th November 2021Elaine Quinn

This week our Hydro pool opened up again for the first time this year, so we had a lovely treat and went for a swim on Tuesday morning which we all loved. We showed off our skills that we learnt in our swimming lessons at Sir Charles Parsons and we played lots of fun games.

Since the start of the year, we have become much more independent bakers and we have been really eager to make our own pizzas. So this week in class we turned our classroom into an Italian restaurant and chopped up different toppings to go on our pizzas. They were very very tasty!

On Wednesday, we had a lovely day out in the yurt. We wrote acrostic poems about our favourite foods and we also had a cosy afternoon watching films and having lovely snacks.

Thursday was a very fun day for us all, we had an amazing rebound party for Jessica’s birthday. We played lots of great music and had some lovely cake when we got back to class. We also ventured out again to the Pegasus centre for our weekly horse riding lessons, which once again was great.

Yet again this Friday afternoon we had football club again at lunch time with Rachael’s class. This was a lot of fun and we played another great game of dodgeball, however, this time we mixed classes and worked in different teams against one another !

As it is Children in Needs this week, we all dressed up in our pyjamas and Pudsey outfits. We all looked amazing and we even went on a hunt around the school to find as many different coloured spots as we could to win a prize.

We would like to say a big well done to Violet this week for getting a certificate in this weeks achievers assembly for her amazing Maths work this week!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

A splashing week

12th November 2021Elaine Quinn

Hello everyone we hope you have had a lovely week!

This week the pool was back open and working again, so we kicked off this half terms swimming lessons with a splash! We practiced our kicking skills and splashed all our friends , it was so much fun.  At the end of the lesson we all did races, which we were all so good at, as we listened to instructions very well.

This week in Food tech we were joined by our new Deputy Headteacher Alex. We showed him our excellent listening and cooking skills and made some very tasty fresh pasta! While the pasta was cooking, we made pictures out of some dry pasta which we really enjoyed.

In our class we have been really working hard on our writing. As it was bonfire night last week, we wrote a 5 senses poem about it. Firstly, we discussed the 5 senses and wrote down what we could hear, see, smell, touch and taste. The next day we started to write our poems up! We produced some amazing pieces of work and we used our phonic knowledge to help us with our spelling!

We also had football Friday lunch time with Graham and Rachel’s class! This was so much fun and we even had a class vs class dodgeball game at the end !

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

First week back !

5th November 2021Elaine Quinn

What a first week back !

We have got stuck straight back into work mode again and we have kicked off this half term with a bang !

This week in Maths we have been solving addition problems, using our ‘ part- part whole’ model and some of us have been solving word problems.  We will be continuing this over the next few weeks and soon we will become masters at this!

This week in Food tech we made our own bonfire biscuits. This was so much fun and we loved trying bits of the ingredients during the process. We are becoming such independent bakers and our measuring skills are amazing !

This half term we are back horse riding again and we are so excited about it ! Our confidence last half term has increased so much and we have become such independent horse riders. We are now completing more tasks while on the horses and balancing things on our heads.

This Friday we went out and watched some fire works in the flow field. Some of us were a bit apprehensive of the loud noises at first, but we were very brave!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

A thankful week

8th October 2021Elaine Quinn

This week we have been learning all about Thanksgiving in America for our Harvest festival. We learnt what thanksgiving was all about and even talked about what we were thankful for ! We then made soup with bread and butter for our Harvest festival for Mr Rollings and Mrs Stockle to try. We were so close to winning the competition !

Yet again we had an amazing day on Tuesday. Katy from Fun little foodies joined us again and we made Banana and Blueberry muffins! We are getting so good at remembering where our food comes from and Katy was so impressed with all the information we gave her. We then got to try our muffins at the end of the day and they  proved to be  the most popular thing that we have made so far !

In the afternoon we went swimming yet again ! We continued developing our skills that we had learnt in the previous week and we are becoming more confident and independent in the pool as the weeks go by ! Although we love our lessons, our favourite part of swimming is when we get to play with the big floats and all the toys that they have !

Finally, we went Horse riding again this week. Thankfully the weather was nice and we were able to go for a trek around the stables, which we love doing. We saw loads of different horses in the field and counted them all ! Some of our horses were very cheeky and had a quick pit stop to eat some grass, which we found really funny.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we cannot wait to see you again next week !

What a fun week !

1st October 2021Elaine Quinn

Hello everyone, what a lovely fun filled week we have had yet again!!

This week we got out and went horse riding again. We were all so excited to be back after missing a week. This week in horse riding we learnt some new skills and some of us even had a go at trotting !

In swimming this week, we continued to develop our water skills. We had small floats to hold onto to help us just and glide across the pool. This is one skill that we found a little bit tricky, but we were very resilient and we gave it a good try.  Some of us even helped our friends to get across the pool when they were in need of some help. As we had all done some great work, we were then had a play time in the pool with all the toys! This is definitely our favourite part of swimming!

Once again Katy from Fun little Foodies joined us again and this time we made bread and butter ! It was really interesting to see how bread and butter was made, especially as we are learning all about where our food comes from!

This week, we also had a day in the Yurt ! This was so much fun. We went out on a leaf hunt and had to collect as many different leaves as we could and match them up to the leaves we had on our clip board. We also made our own leaves and wrote our names and how we were feeling on them, as we are making our own Tell-me tree in our classroom. However, our favourite part of the day was when we all had some hot chocolate to keep us warm and some relaxation time!

Finally, we have had a lovely Friday afternoon playing music in the music shack and having a lovely  pamper session.

We have had such a great week this week and we cannot wait to see what next week brings. We hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Week 3 weekly news

24th September 2021Elaine Quinn

Hello everyone and happy Friday!

This week we went the Sir Charles Parsons and kicked off our weekly swimming lessons. It was great fun! We focused on getting used to the pool again, walking from one side to the other and we managed to put our heads under the water. Once we had done all our hard work, we then got loads of toys out and had a great play in the pool. We cannot wait to go back again next week and learn some new skills.

This week in English we have started a new book called ‘The tell me tree’. We have been talking about how we are feeling and even went outside to find our own tree to talk to about how we are feeling.

On Tuesday Katy, from Fun little foodies, joined us again. This week we yet again listened carefully to Katy’s instructions and we made our own blackberry Flapjack. This then linked in very nicely with Wednesday’s lesson. We found out where our food comes from. We knew that eggs come from chickens, chips come from potatoes and we even learnt that bread is made from wheat. Once we had done our matching activity, we then went out for a walk around the school and picked some apples and blackberries of our own.

Unfortunately, this week we were unable to go Horse riding, however we still had a great afternoon! Instead we had a relaxing movie afternoon and had some sweet treats.

We cannot wait for another fun filled week at school next week and we hope you have an amazing weekend!

Weekly news!

17th September 2021Elaine Quinn

Wow what a fantastic week in class, the children have amazed us with their focus and the  great work they have produced.

We have worked on recognising numerals, ordering numbers and counting amounts. We have also been practicing using tens frames, some of us have even been counting all the way to twenty!

We began our new story ‘the dot’, which is a lovely story of a little girl who is feeling sad and frustrated that she just can’t paint or draw. Until her teacher encourages her to make a mark on the paper and this begins her journey into discovering that she can make beautiful art with just DOTS. This taught us that you can do anything that you set your mind to. It is about having confidence to believe in yourself and encouraging and nurturing others.

As well as painting lots of dots for our new display, we have talked lots about our emotions and what things might make us feel happy, sad or angry.

This week we were very lucky to have Katy from ‘Fun Little Foodies’ to help with our food tech session. She will be working with us for the next few weeks, how exciting ! This week the children made quiche independently and have learnt that eggs come from chickens. They cracked eggs, cut veg and whisked eggs all by themselves. They then all had a try of their creations! Yum yum yum!! Katy also added a bit of arts and craft and the children  made their own chicken collages.

We had another successful trip out horse-riding, the weather was so nice we had a trek around the grounds at Pegasus stables and even stepped over jumps! Amazing for week two.

Then a nice snack in the sun before we headed back to school.

Have a great weekend, stay safe.

Weekly news!

10th September 2021Elaine Quinn

We have had a wonderful first few days back in school, we have spent time getting to know the new children and staff in class, we have a couple more of our friends and staff to welcome back next.

This is Becky who we are happy to be welcoming to our team this year!

We were so excited to begin horse riding this term, it seems so long since we have been out of the school building for activities or trips!

It all went very smoothly, all the children were very brave even when feeling a little unsure and they each rode a horse, fair to say all fears where replaced with a huge smile within minutes.

We will also begin weekly swimming lessons at Sir Charles Parsons on a Tuesday so please remember you child’s kit.

PE is now on a Monday we can keep kit in school if that works better.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, take care.

Weekly news!

9th July 2021Elaine Quinn

Its been sports week and we have had non stop fun! It has been our 1st Hadrian Olympics we were team Peru!

Our week began with a Peruvian parade with Peru flags, Olympic torches and fabulous bright patterned hats we made ourselves, we did not get very far before the heavens opened and we got a good soaking which the kids found hilarious.

Tuesday we had yoga in the yurt we done lots of sporting poses and tried toga which was new to us, yoga with our toes. We had a sensory story about the Olympics with the highlight being Kairen dressed in a sumo suit. In the afternoon it was too wet for us to play cricket outside so we went for a walk in our waterproofs after that was boxing which was a big hit, all the class surprised us with their skills.

We had a special treat Wednesday crazy golf! After bit practice the putting skills were getting better and better but sadly none of us could get a hole in one. We then went cheerleading and line dancing on the outside decking.

Thursday began with karate, then outdoor tennis, rebound and an obstacle course in the caterpillar garden. Think the children and the adults are well and truly exhausted,

What a fabulous week it has been Ellen did a fantastic job with organising and coordinating all the activities.

We ended the week with a whole school closing ceremony on the flow filed with all classes in their bubbles. We had an amazing dance teacher who had us all up learning new moves, it was such a special day being together (socially distanced) and having a dance around with all our friends.

Have a wonderful weekend.
