My Dad is a Grizzly Bear and More!

21st May 2021June Ball

We’ve enjoyed another busy week including listening to a real author reading her book and the illustrator showing us how to draw a bear, planting activities, exploring the weather using lycra, art exploration and also making a mini movie!

On Tuesday afternoon we met the author of the book, My Dad is a grizzly Bear via Zoom for a live session. The illustrator, Dapo Adeola was also there. She told us the story and then Dapo led a step by step guide on how to draw a bear. The children were so engaged throughout and we had some wonderful drawings of the bear.

We had a great session exploring the weather using lycra and different props for the rain, sun, wind and snow. We really captured the different types of weather and worked closely together.

We use the lycra in lots of different ways including during Maths for adding and taking away!

We had a great Art session on Wednesday afternoon where we explored colour mixing and also plasticine with lots of materials to decorate our sculptures.

We can’t quite believe it’s almost half term again and then it’s the final half term of the year!

Have a great weekend everyone – shame the weather is so poor!

Eid Mubarak

16th May 2021June Ball

Eid al – Fitr, also called the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” or Lesser Eid, or simply Eid, is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month  long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. It’s an exciting time and we had a wonderful time in school.

We began on Tuesday by making moon and star biscuits and chocolate truffles in food Technology to have at our feast. On Thursday, we started the day by watching a simple PowerPoint where some children taught us all about Eid. We also enjoyed a fun song called “Eid Day” We then put out the prayer mats and each said a little prayer of thanks.

We explored a range of activities including, counting 1 to 10 objects relating to Ramadan, making beautiful lanterns, making paper chains, colouring by 2D shapes and exploring shapes using the Light Box.

In the afternoon we chose a costume and jewellery and enjoyed dancing to music before setting off on a parade around the school wishing everyone a Happy Eid.

Some of our children celebrated Eid at home so we continued with our celebrations the following day, finishing the day with a party for Sehrish who was 8 years old on Thursday.

What a fabulous time we had. We hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating with your family and friends.

Eid Mubarak.

Outdoor Art Work

9th May 2021June Ball

For several weeks we have been working on an Outdoor Art Sculpture based loosely on the work of Jane Ackroyd. We decided to work with metal as it is going to be displayed outside in the Caterpillar Garden. We collected lots of metal pots and pans with the help of our wonderful parents and carers and also cutlery. (we had a great time making music with the objects before we started)

Next we set to work making our structure. We used the old gardening frame as a basis for our sculpture and then using two colours of metal paint we painted the items. It was wonderful to see how the children used the paint creatively to decorate the pots and pans. We also painted the frame using the same paint.

We then attempted to attach the cutlery and other flat metal  objects to the outside of the  frame using grout which was great to work with but we found it just wasn’t strong enough and once dry, they all dropped off! We had to resort to good old Gorilla Glue (other glues are available!) which obviously the adults did for fear of gluing children’s fingers to the display!!!!

We then worked on attaching the cutlery to the inside of the frame using wire. This was super tricky but we were delighted with the children’s persistence and determination. Then all we needed to do was to pile the pots and pans up at the bottom and ta da! finished.

We also added a couple of ladybirds! Well why not?

We named the piece “Picnic” and Leni did a wonderful job of painting the name on a piece of wood using the metal paint. We are so proud of the piece which currently stands in the corridor. We have had so many “likes” as people have walked past it and commented on how good it is. It will move it shortly to the Caterpillar Garden where we are waiting for better weather to have The Outdoor Art Exhibition.

Very well done to our fabulous group of children.

A trip to the Seaside!

7th May 2021Nadia Motie

On Tuesday we enjoyed our rebound therapy session, the children worked really hard on their communication skills, using their big voices to ask for ‘more’ on the trampoline. We have also spent lots of time playing and exploring in the outdoor areas at school this week. We started our new topic under the sea, which involves multisensory exploring. On Wednesday we continued this theme and took the children to the seaside with an edible messy play session. They used their fine and gross motor skills to explore all the different textures and flavours.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

We’re all going on a summer holiday!

30th April 2021June Ball

Our class topic for Humanities this term is ‘Holiday’. We will be exploring all the different types of holidays and the excitement that comes along with them.

To start off our topic we have been looking into all the things you would need to take on holiday and how to get there. We have packed our own cases, made our own passports and set up our own train station in class! At the moment we are focusing on holidays you can enjoy in England so we set up our own Seaside holiday in the adventure playground! Luckily the sunshine was out too, so we could discuss what kind of clothes you need to wear and how important sun cream is. As fun as the seaside is the children had their own idea of what a holiday should be, so our seaside trip quickly turned into a trip to Dubai! Next week we will be visiting Africa on the airplane. Good idea Mason!

Take a look!

Fun in the Sun

22nd April 2021Nadia Motie

This week in Nadia’s class, we have been making the most of the fabulous weather. The children have all enjoyed splashing about and get soaking wet during our water exploration sessions. We have also really enjoyed using the early years playground, especially using the swings and roundabout.  We have used this opportunity to work extra hard on our communication skills to ask for ‘more’ of our favorite activities.

Green and Red

20th March 2021June Ball

So many celebrations this week.

On Wednesday we celebrated St Patrick’s Day. Together we made a hat for the hat Competition. We made Irish Soda bread and green cakes in Food Technology which we placed on the top of our hat. We thought out hat was the best hat in the school! (it didn’t win but we loved making it) We loved the Assembly and enjoyed dancing along to Riverdance.

Here we are dancing to Riverdance.

On Friday we celebrated Red Nose Day and all of the children came dressed in something red. We did lots of red themed activities and had a red tea party. Thank you for your kind donations which will help so many people.

We can’t quite believe there’s only two weeks left until Easter. We’re looking forward to two weeks of Easter themed activities.

Year 3 Team.

A Warm Welcome to the Hadrian Family

15th March 2021June Ball

Last Monday we welcomed Simon to Hadrian School. The children have been super kind and helpful in welcoming Simon to our great school. He’s had a fabulous first week with us.

What a busy week we’ve had. We decided we would decorate plant pots and plant a beautiful Primrose to take home to our mums for Mother’s Day. We hope you liked them.

We continue to work on our Art pieces, We are arranging to have them displayed in the Key Stage 1 corridor and all of the classes are going to add photographs of their children through the year. It’s going to look stunning.

We have loved exploring the role of a police Officer again.Llast time it was Community Service, picking up litter and this week some children were lost and the Police Officers had to find them using the Walkie Talkies. It was such good fun and incorporated so many different skills including, speaking and listening, reading and writing, working together, physical skills and of course learning all about what Police Officers do. We played “The Laughing Policeman” on the Smart board which was absolutely hilarious with children lying on the floor laughing! We’ll have to put it on again and record it for you to see.

We hope all you mummies are having a lovely day today.

Year 3 Team
