Christmas Trip Part 1

29th November 2019June Ball

On Wednesday we had our Christmas Trip. The first stop was to the Metro Centre.

We all climbed aboard the train and headed to Santa’s Grotto.

Once we were at Santa’s Grotto an elf took us through to see Santa. We each had a turn sitting and chatting with Santa about what we were hoping to get for Christmas. He even gave us a special EARLY present! It was so much fun!

After seeing Santa we then headed to a special café.

Christmas Trip Part 2

28th November 2019June Ball

The special café was Mrs Ball’s café. It was all decorated for Christmas and it looked amazing. We had lunch whilst we were there, it was DELICIOUS! The children’s behaviour was outstanding and they were such a credit to Hadrian School. We sang some favourite Christmas songs which were really appreciated by the customers. One lady said we had made her day! Anne (who owns the café) was so pleased with the children that she gave them each a chocolate Santa and a dip into a sweetie jar. What a fabulous experience.

Parents Coffee Afternoon

22nd November 2019June Ball

On Tuesday afternoon we had a Coffee Afternoon scheduled. So on the morning we made some cheese and fruit scones, we dipped some biscuits in chocolate and we also made some cheese sandwiches and some egg and tomato ones. After lunch we helped to get the classroom ready for the parents coming. We then had some time to have a practice with our recorders as we were putting a special performance.

Our parents came in, took a seat and then we started performing our special songs on the recorder. Mr Rollings and Mrs Stokle even came and joined in with our afternoon. Everyone was so impressed with our recorder playing. We even videoed it so that everyone can watch it.

After our recorder playing we had a cup of tea or coffee and eat our lovely treats. In Maths we have been learning about shapes, 3D and 2D. To impress everyone even more we got some out for the children to play with and name.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Jess and Carol.

Julia Jarman

22nd November 2019Rachael Budden

We were immensely lucky this week to welcome Julia Jarman into school as part of the Northern Children’s Book Festival.  Julia is the author of stories such as Big Red Bath, Fussy Freda, Class Two at the Zoo among many more.  Julia’s storytelling of some of her books was so creative and engaging and the children were so excited to interview her during the sessions!  Julia even did a book signing session, where she individually met some children and write a personalised message in their copy of Fussy Freda and the Time Travelling Cat.  Julia now has lots of new fans in Hadrian School and we can’t wait to explore some of her other stories.  We hope to be able to welcome Julia back again to Hadrian one day-she is just fantastic!

A Real Author!

22nd November 2019June Ball

On Wednesday we had the opportunity to meet a children’s author, Julia Jarman. In class we have been reading one of her books’ Fussy Freda so it was wonderful to be able to meet her and ask her lots of questions which we had prepared together. Julia read Fussy Freda and then answered our very interesting questions. She talked about how she wrote her stories and showed us how she recorded her ideas before sending the story off to the illustrator. It was fascinating and it has inspired us to write our own class book which we might base on our Christmas Trip. After meeting her some children had their own Fussy Freda book signed by her and she also wrote a message in our class book.

The children were highly motivated by the session and Lillie summed the visit up by saying “I can’t believe I’ve met a real author!”

Dancing Pudsey!

15th November 2019June Ball

On Friday we had a very fun IT lesson. We downloaded a great app called Quiver. Because it was Children in Need we printed off some special pictures for us to colour in. After we coloured them in we use the app to take a photo of them and Pudsey comes ALIVE!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue and Jess.

Children in Need Fun!

15th November 2019June Ball

This week we have been talking about Children in Need in preparation for Children in Need on Friday. As a whole school we have had activities to complete. We had to make a mascot and decide on a name, colouring competition where we had to draw a duck and then colour it in. We also had to bake a biscuit and decorate it, in Class 4 we decided to sell them around school for the adults. We raised £45.00.

This is our mascot. We each chose a name, wrote it down and put it in the hat and then Val, our special volunteer, picked one out. Our mascot is called Puddles!

We had so much fun decorating our biscuits. We made one for us to eat and then we made lots to sell to the adults. We won the baking competition as well!

Everyone’s ducks were amazing, but Noura was our winner!

We have had a great week and have raised lots of money. We will let you know the total next week.

Bonfire Cooking

8th November 2019June Ball

On Tuesday we had a fun Food Technology lesson. We decided to base the lesson around Bonfire Night. We came up with some ideas – Breadstick Sparklers, Pizza Catherine Wheels and Fruit Rockets.

We had so much fun making them all, even though we got a little bit messy! Good job we had our aprons on. For the Breadstick Sparklers we had to dip the breadsticks in melted chocolate. We then covered them in different sprinkles. They looked so good!

To make the Pizza Catherine Wheels we covered pastry in tomato sauce and then we put cheese on top. We then had to roll it up into a long sausage and then cut it into pieces. We even added more cheese on the top once they were cut to make it EXTRA cheesy. They were delicious!

The Fruit Rockets were so fun to make. First we had to decorate our skewers to make them look like fireworks. We used coloured cellophane and sparkly paper. We then had to chop all of our fruit up, pears, oranges, apples, bananas and grapes. Once we made a pattern on the skewer we had to put a strawberry at the top of the skewer for the top of the rocket. We were so pleased with how they turned out they looked so good and were so tasty!

Our favourite part was definitely eating them all at snack time!

On Thursday we started Horse Riding. The children had so much fun and were very brave as for some of them it was their first time on a horse. Keep an eye out for some great pictures next week!

Have a lovely weekend!

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Jess and Carol.

Look at our super skills in English and Maths

25th October 2019June Ball

This half term in Maths we have been working on numbers. We have been looking at recognising numerals, counting to 20 and beyond and number bonds to 20. We have also been ‘subitising’. What is subitising? Subitising is looking at a group of objects and knowing how many there are without counting them. We have used our knowledge of number when we have been buying items from our snack shop at communication time.

In English we have been working hard on our letters sounds, words, handwriting and poems. We have been looking at rhyming poems and thinking about words that rhyme with our names. Once we found a word we then made it into a sentence, we had lots of funny ones! The children enjoyed finding words that rhyme with the adults names as well.

Have a lovely half term!

Happy Halloween

25th October 2019June Ball

Because Halloween is next week when we are on holiday, we ‘ve had a Halloween themed week. We decorated the Shed Halloween style and even had scary music playing. We made spooky witches fingers and Halloween jelly in Food Technology. In Maths and English our work tied into the Halloween theme too. Best of all on Friday every child in our class dressed up. What amazing costumes we had. Thank you for making such a tremendous effort. The children were so delighted.

We hope you have a good week and we look forward to seeing everyone safely back on Monday, 4th November.

Babs, June, Jess, Sue and Carol.
