In class this year we have a lovely group of Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children. We have had lots of fun so far, getting to know each other and our new school! We especially like Hydrotherapy, Rebound Therapy and getting messy in our sensory sessions. We can’t wait to share all of our good news and adventures on our blog so watch this space!
We know that we haven’t posted in a while but it has been such a busy few weeks in Grace’s Class!
Here are some photographs of 2 of the sessions we have been enjoying over the past few weeks. The first is ‘Spa Afternoon’ – we have been lucky enough to be gifted a new foot spa from the Amazon wish list and have taken advantage of this by having a right pamper and relax, building relationships and communicating our preferences. The second is our ‘Sensory Story’ – we have been learning about travelling on a bus, metro, boat and aeroplane and exploring all the different places that we could travel to, such as the farm or the beach!
Stay tuned for more updates after May Half Term.
We were so lucky to have the opportunity to go to Nunsmoor Fair, facilitated by Northumbria Police. We could go on any ride we liked and had a fantastic time. Thank you so much!!
We have had a lovely week filled with Easter activities, as well as our usual therapies and exercises. We have enjoyed a special Spring themed sensory play, made Easter cards using shaving foam and even had an egg hunt in the classroom. Phew, we are ready for 2 weeks off now!
Despite it now being officially Spring, on Thursday it had snowed over night. We took the opportunity to enjoy the fresh snow in the Quad before it melted!
Then, it was our turn to look after the chicks that had just hatched, from the ‘living egg project’. We absolutely loved seeing them and some of us were even brave enough to stroke or hold them!
Our Spring Term Creative Curriculum topic is ‘Fairy tales’ and we have been focusing on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Our class team transformed the work room into an Enchanted Forest for the children to enjoy. Thanks so much to Sophia R’s family for some of the lights and Sophia D’s family for the bubble machine, courtesy of the Amazon Wish list.
We have been using the Enchanted Forest as a setting for our Sensory Story. Goldilocks takes a walk through the woods and finds the bears’ house, where she explores both warm and cold porridge, takes a bath (bubble machine and water spray), dries her hair (hairdryer on a switch) and lots more! The children have shown some fantastic communicative responses, telling us whether they’d like ‘more’ or to ‘stop’ the different stimuli.
Hi Everyone!
Sorry that we haven’t posted in a while – as well as being struck down with Covid we have just been so busy working hard! Here is a selection of photographs showing what we have been up to recently. We have used the Sensory Room to explore different stimuli, stretched our bodies and copied actions and movements in Music and Movement, concentrated in Messy Play whilst exploring gloop and had fun developing our physical skills in Rebound Therapy.
We have had a lovely last week before Christmas filled with crafts, Messy play and parties!! We even got to watch a panto … oh yes we did! We got a fantastic surprise when Sana turned up at our party, and then danced the afternoon away.
Merry Christmas, from everyone in Grace’s Class – we hope you have a relaxing and restful break and we’ll see you on January 5th.
This week we have begun to get into the Christmas spirit. It started with our Advent Assembly on Wednesday, which was the 1st December. This was such a special moment as we haven’t been able to get together as a whole school since Covid began and it was amazing to hear the whole school singing along to the Christmas favourites.
Some lovely members of staff have decorated the Music Shack and transformed it into a Christmassy grotto for everyone to enjoy. We went along on Thursday and took our new Karaoke machine so that we could have a sing-a-long and a dance to some Christmas tunes. We have also had a special Christmas session in the Sensory Room with lights and winter interactive pictures to make us feel immersed in a winter wonderland.
Keep reading our blog for more news of our Christmas activities over the next couple of weeks!
This week we were able to have our very first Hydrotherapy session. It was so lovely to see the children’s smiling faces as they splashed and played in the water. We have even had the lights updated and the music player fixed so it was a very relaxing environment and a great way to spend Friday afternoon!
