The children thoroughly enjoyed their Mud Kitchen session this week. They played so well together, taking turns to use the pots and pans and to spray the hose. We love getting outside in the fresh air and enjoying the different outdoor areas our school has to offer – aren’t we lucky!
This week we were lucky enough to have 2 fun treats. The first was a visit to ‘Grubbin’s Wood’ – a theatre company came into school and transformed the sports hall for an immersive experience. We sat on the forest floor, listened to the sounds and felt the roots and leaves. A great time was had by all.
We also were able to go on our first trip of the year to Round the Twist in Benton. We loved the role play areas, sensory rooms and soft play.
We have had a lovely week filled with Halloween activities including mummy bowling (and toilet roll play!), crafts and sensory play with pumpkin, worms (spaghetti), spiders web (shaving foam) and guts (jelly). We had to find the hidden spider and pumpkin pictures in the mess and it was so much fun.
This week the children have been continuing to build relationships with each other and the adults in class. They have been focusing on learning each others names and using them to gain attention or choose who to play with. In Sensory Circuits and the Sensory Suite, we had lots of lovely interactions with the children, using eye contact and playfulness to gain responses such as laughing, smiling and communicating.
We also had our first Jabadeo session this week. The children loved moving around the room and exploring the equipment. We had some lovely communications using vocabulary such as more, stop, fast, slow and help.
In messy play, the children enjoyed exploring the different textures and smells and we did indeed get very MESSY!! Some children enjoyed finding their name in the shaving foam or searching for the Numicon in the oats.
Next week is Halloween week so look out for our spooky activities!!
We have been so busy this week that we forgot to take photos of some of the lovely activities we have been doing! We had great fun on Tuesday celebrating Harvest around the world; our country was Spain and we stomped on lots of grapes to make ‘wine’ for Mr Rollings to try in assembly. We also had a lovely day on Thursday in the Yurt; we each had a turn sitting on the big drum and controlled whether our friends played their instruments fast or slow, then in the afternoon we snuggled up by the fire to watch a movie and drink hot chocolate.
We have continued our Africa topic this week using frozen paint to make patterned Art to display in class. Some of us have also been cutting, sticking and matching the African animals we have learnt so far, and we have been practicing our fine motor skills by colouring in pictures of the animals.
We promise to take more photos next week for our blog!
This week we have enjoyed using paint in different ways. We loved feeling the pasta roll in the tray and using different equipment to paint big boxes. We were so engaged that we even missed play time! The pasta then became beautiful African necklaces and the boxes turned into a HUGE giraffe!
Welcome to our class! We have had so much fun these past few weeks getting to know each other and our new classroom environment. Our topic this term is ‘Africa’ and this week we have been learning about 3 African animals; Lion, Giraffe and Tiger. We know that a Lion makes a ‘ROAAAAR’ sound and have enjoyed ‘roaring’ at each other. We have been developing our fine motor skills through various Art activities linked to these animals. Some of us can even say, sign or match the colours yellow and orange! We can’t wait to find out about the other animals that live in Africa!
