The Water Cycle!

7th February 2020June Ball

Here in Class 4 we are a class of scientists!

We have loved learning all about the water cycle, and the experiments that have come with it.

We have experimented and made our own clouds, our own rain and even had an experiment so we could see evaporation! We each made our own rain clouds, with water and cotton wool, we were all fascinated to see how many drops of water it would take before the water dripped through. The cloud needed to be heavy with water before it fell through, just like in the sky!

The discovering didn’t stop there! We used ice, water and hairspray to make our own clouds! First, we filled a jar full of hot water (With a little help from the adults!) then as quick as we could we sprayed hair spray into the jar before covering it over with a bowl full of ice. We then watched our rain clouds get thicker!

As we are learning all about the water cycle, we have learnt lots of new words like evaporation, condensation and precipitation! We are getting pretty good at remembering these words thanks to our friend Jack Hartmann who has given us two fantastic songs to sing along too on YouTube, to help us remember. With all of these new words it was interesting to see our very own water cycle in a bag, which we did for our last experiment. We used a zip lock bag, drew on a picture of the water cycle and filled it with water then stuck it onto the window. We then kept checking back through the week and were amazed to see some of the water had made it up to the top of the bag…and even disappeared! It had evaporated!

That’s all from class 4, thank you for reading!

P.S Here is the link if you would like to learn a little more about the water cycle, in style!

Friendship Fridays

3rd February 2020June Ball

Every Friday our class joins up with Dave’s class for lots of fun using PE as the focus. We all come together in the Sports Hall/School Hall where the children get involved in a wide range of self chosen activities. It is wonderful to see the children working together with our older children supporting the younger children. We intend offering the children the choice of going into the School Hall to work on the large apparatus (we have had one session up to now to try it out which was very well received) What a great way to end each week!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

30th January 2020June Ball

This week we celebrated Chinese New year!

We have been learning all about the traditions and history of Chinese New Year! We have done this by cooking traditional Chinese food, making our own lanterns and red envelopes to take home and even trying to write our own Chinese writing!

In our Chinese New Year Assembly on Monday morning we wowed our audience with a traditional Dragon Dance. Using costumes and drums it was the perfect way to say Gung Hay Fat Choy! We later cooked sweet chilli and Quorn chicken noodles, which was a great idea from our Usman who chose the ingredients! We then gathered round in traditional Chinese clothing to eat our noodles, using chop sticks! We each got our own fortune cookie, which we all found very fascinating.

A Balancing Act!

23rd January 2020June Ball

For PE this term we will be doing gymnastics!

Thinking of all the ways we can move and shape our bodies. Last week we focused on travel in gymnastics, galloping and leaping we were able to move straight onto shape and balance this week. We practised four shapes this week. The Pike, Straddle, Tuck and Star. Once we had the shapes perfected we moved onto balancing ourselves while walking along a beam. (Or benches!) We all gave 100% and some of us moved onto a finer beam and using finishing positions after jumping from the beam.

Tune in next week for more class 4/5 news!

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Louise and Carole.

Eat like a Roman!

17th January 2020June Ball

This week we have been thinking all about what the Romans ate!

Using fresh vegetables we put our fine motor skills to the test by chopping, peeling and grating vegetables to go into our roman vegetable soup. One group made vegetable soup while the other made bread for dipping, just like the Romans!

For snack we all gathered round to try our soup and bread, which really went down a treat. A special well done to Usman who tried something new and loved it!

This term our hot topic is…The Romans!

10th January 2020June Ball

In class we are learning all about life as a Roman! Dressing in Roman armour, delving into how they would go about daily life and even having a go at making our very own coil pots.

During art we each got a lump of clay, which we could roll and mould and turn in to a coil pot. Just like the Romans! We really enjoyed seeing our work build up, and got very excited with the result.

However, if you build like a roman…You must dress like a Roman! So we all tried on some Roman armour and started to learn a new song ‘Walk like a Roman’ a song filled with facts about Roman life. We loved dancing and singing like a Roman!

Christmas Party!

20th December 2019June Ball

Yesterday afternoon we had our Christmas Party. We played party games and there were lots of prizes to be won. There were lots of songs to dance to, as you can see in some of the photos we were showing everyone our best moves! We also had a special visit from Santa and received another lovely gift. Afterwards we had lots of party food! We had so much fun!

Thank you for your continued support and generous gifts. We really appreciate it.

Have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Jess and Carol.

Yummy Christmas Dinner!

18th December 2019June Ball

Yesterday we all had the most delicious Christmas Dinner. We went into the School Hall to find decorated tables with crackers to pull and lovely Christmas music. We enjoyed the full works and even had fizzy drink! Many thanks to Irene and her staff who worked so hard to make the dinner and to the Senior Management Team who dressed the tables and worked so hard to make our Christmas Dinner experience so good.

In the Bleak Midwinter/Snow is Falling

16th December 2019June Ball

Friday was the day of our Performance and what a Performance! (in our non biased opinion) We decided to re-enact “In the Bleak Midwinter” to showcase our children’s talents. We began our Performance with the beautiful singing of Joe who very kindly stepped in for Anthony who unfortunately was poorly. We then all joined him to play our Recorders as we have been learning how to play this instrument all term. Charlie who is our class Weatherman then became the Weatherman in our Performance telling us all about the cold wind, the frosty ground and then the snow. Each small group acted out each scene before all coming together for a snowball fight. Perfection! We hope if you managed to come you thought it was amazing too.

Mrs Ball, Babs, Sue, Jess and Carol.
