Happy Half Term!

21st October 2022Loveday Fisk

Hello and welcome to this weeks blog!

Its been a fun filled week in Loveday’s class as always and we have packed lots of wonderful activities in alongside our usual timetable!

Some of this week’s highlights are our Autumn Exploration session which we did on Tuesday. We went out in to the Adventure Playground and we collected lots of autumn leaves, sticks and conkers to bring back to class. The children had so much fun jumping in the leaves and throwing them up in the air. We made such a mess but it was definitely worth it!

We have also celebrated Diwali this week! Happy Diwali to those of you celebrating on Monday!

Sticking with the theme of the festival of lights we had lots of coloured lights in class, as well as some lovely music, coloured rice and musical instruments!

We also joined our friends in Phil’s class for a Diwali Party on Friday afternoon, their classroom looked amazing we had costumes, food, lights, music, songs and lots of fun!

We hope you all have a lovely week off!

See you all on Monday 31st October when we come back to school!

Hadrian Carnival & Year 6 Activity Week

15th July 2022Loveday Fisk

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog. This week has been a very busy one with lots going on inside and outside of school. It has been the Year 6 activity week so two of our children have been out enjoying lots of different fun days every day this week!

On Monday we went to Newburn Park where the children were able to try out lots of adapted bikes so they were accessible for everyone! The children loved riding around the Newburn Leisure Centre and had a fantastic time with all of their friends in Year 6. After lots of fun on the bikes we headed to the Keelman for lunch. We were really lucky with the weather too so the children enjoyed eating their dinner outside in the sunshine. We ended the day by going to play in the park and enjoying an ice-cream to cool us down before heading back to school.

On Tuesday we had a visit from the ‘Bubbleologist’. The children had lots of fun with bubbles and some us even got inside of some giant bubbles! For lunch we had a special delivery from La Famila. The children and the staff enjoyed tucking in to pizzas as a special treat!

On Wednesday our Year 6 children went to South Shields Fair! We had so much fun going on lots of different rides. We couldn’t go to the coast without having fish and chips either!

On Thursday we took a trip to Inflatanation, which is a huge bouncy castle style soft play! The children had lots of fun going on the big slides and playing in the ball pool! We ended the day with a walk around Royal Quays. The children loved getting to hold some of the animals in the pet shop too!

For our last day out, on Friday we went to Hallhill Farm, we all had a great time seeing lots of different animals!

We hope all of the Year 6’s at Hadrian have had an amazing Activity Week!

Those of us who stayed in school have also had a very busy week we’ve enjoyed lots of our usual activities such as Rebound, Swimming, Soft Play and lots of Outdoor Learning but the highlight of the week had to be the Hadrian Carnival!

In preparation for the Carnival the children created their own banner filled with lots of colours to take to the parade. We began the parade at the entrance of school. We followed the Samba band and paraded around the school grounds – everyone had musical instruments, flags, banners and lots of colourful costumes! We paraded around the school grounds before stopping at the Adventure Playground to listen to the Steel Pan Band!

We spent the afternoon singing and dancing with the band – everyone had a fantastic time! Take a look at some of our pictures.

Walking through the jungle!

1st July 2022Loveday Fisk

Hello everyone and welcome to our weekly blog, this week we thought we would share our Sensory Story with you. This half term our story is called ‘Walking through the jungle’.

Our Sensory Stories are based around engagement and communication and this story has definitely been a hit with the children!

Throughout our story we use repetition, call and response, songs, music and lots of props to make the story as exciting as possible. We also have vocabulary that we focus on, in this story is ‘stop, look, listen, more, fast, slow, go’ and ‘help’.

We begin our story by walking through the jungle to hear a ‘drip drip drip’ which is rain falling from the clouds! Our music begins and we use blue material to form a parachute in the middle of the circle which some children love hiding underneath, while lots of the other children love exploring our water spray bottles. Spraying themselves, their friends and sometimes the staff!

We continue our walk through the jungle and meet a frog, and as our story goes he’s ‘the slimiest frog we’ve ever met’. During this part of our story the children have great fun and get very messy exploring our taste safe frog slime!

The next friend we meet in the jungle is a bird, tweeting in our ear. We all take turns to press the switch to listen to the bird sounds while we enjoy some intensive interaction and dancing using lots of different coloured scarves. We also have a fan connected up to a switch so the children can work on their cause and effect skills.

We continue on our walk through the jungle when we suddenly come across…. A tiger! We enjoy exploring tambourines while we listen to ‘Roar!’

Our final song in the story is Jungle Rhythm from the Jungle book – We sing, dance and explore some more of the resources to celebrate having lots of fun in the jungle.

Grubbin’s Wood

24th June 2022Loveday Fisk

This morning we had a special visit from our friends at TimbaDash who invited us to take part in their interactive sensory performance of ‘Grubbins Wood’.

The children were there to help Mr Grubbin bring his woodland back to life with the help of mole, fox and mouse!

The performance was filled with music, instruments, songs and dancing as well as being an amazing sensory experience for our children.

We helped Mr Grubbin by watering flowers, planting seeds and we even got to enjoy some lovely fruits at the end!

It was a very messy experience but the children all had a wonderful time!

I’m sure you can see by the pictures how much the children and staff enjoyed their time at Grubbins Wood!

Some of us even went for a paddle in the sea! We enjoyed lunch on the beach then headed to the park to play! In the park there was loads to do! We enjoyed climbing, spinning and playing on all of the equipment. We all had a great day!

This week in Loveday’s Class

10th June 2022Loveday Fisk

Hello everyone and welcome to our weekly blog. We hope you all enjoyed the week off!

On Monday we came in to see the whole school had been decorated beautifully in preparation for our Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The school was covered in bunting, flags, balloons and lots of other red white and blue decorations. The children also came in dressed up in their royal clothes for the occasion – thank you everyone for making such an effort!

We began the day with a Royal Parade! The whole school met outside in the Adventure Playground, carrying their flags, decorations and instruments ready for the parade. We followed the Royal trail looking out for pictures of corgis, crowns and other royalty related pictures. In the afternoon we had a Platinum Jubilee party. We had live music from our Hadrian Staff Band as well as some old classics on the speaker to boogie to! We had a picnic outside with all of our friends in school to mark the occasion.

Tuesday we dived straight back in to our timetable with Hydro in the morning. We all had a great time – it’s always a favourite of ours here in Loveday’s Class. On Tuesday afternoon we started a new Sensory Story (keep an eye out in the following weeks for some pictures). Our story this half term is ‘Walking through the jungle’. The children loved getting messy and exploring lots of new resources such as our edible ‘frog slime’.

On Wednesday we did Jabadao in the Sports Hall. We all had such a lovely session. On Wednesday afternoon we started our new Exploration topic – Sound! The children got stuck right in and we had such a wonderful time! We had keyboards, boom whackers, headphones, guitars, drums and much more for the children to explore. There was lots of great communication and exploration going on!

On Thursday we had another fantastic Rebound Session. In the afternoon we took full advantage of the lovely weather and had an extra playtime in the Adventure Playground. After that we went to Soft Play where the children had lots of fun running, climbing and playing with their friends.

On Friday we had our weekly achievement assembly in the morning and in the afternoon we went to our Friday Afternoon Clubs. The children in our class go to VOCA Club, Sensory Circuits Club and Story Club.

Have a lovely weekend everyone
