Another busy day in the ‘Hadrian pop up salon’, we had over 50 children visit throughout the day! It was a day of festive fun, Michael Buble Christmas songs playing, glitter nails and snacks for all.
We have used some of the money raised from the hair shop to buy a shed for outdoor learning, some new floating equipment for our younger children to use in the Hydro pool and a CD player for the quad play area.
Look forward to the next hair shop next term.
What is a Wiki?
Wikis are simple, accessible, secure and easy to build. They can be used to create multimedia person-centred plans that use pictures, words, video and sound to capture the voice, skills, aspirations and needs of the individual.
Wikis give ownership of the planning process to individuals and families, facilitating genuine collaboration between parents, teachers and professionals, with access given to view the wiki only from the person who has the log in, and only that person can add or edit its content.
Wikis offer a method for children with complex needs to explain some of those complexities in their own way, to record their needs and just do it once. It can hold lots of information that could help anyone working with your child understand themselves and their needs.
I have added a link to show one families experience and how this has worked so well for them.
Skills for Life have secured funding to train parents and give a years free trial for the first 50 families interested.

The next hair shop will be held on Friday 11th October in school!
This has proved to be a great day and the progress some of our children have made overcoming their fears around hair cuts has been fantastic.
We have raised over £500 which has helped us buy new equipment for the hair shop, as well as some much needed resources around school.
Consent letters will be coming out the week before, so watch out for these!
Our next coffee morning will be Friday 20th September in the food technology room 10am – 11.30 am.
Pass It On Parents is a great, supportive group. If you need help filling in forms or applying for grants, this is the group you need. If you want to know what is available in the area for children with additional needs, we can help with that too. It’s a relaxed and friendly group and we welcome any parents who need specific support or who just want a cuppa and a chat. Come along and meet other local parents, make new friends and get great advice and support.

A big thank you to all the staff who worked hard to make the family fun day such a great day! We had a fantastic turn out and the sun shone. We were delighted to host Pony Friendship, West Denton Fire Brigade, Nobels’ Amusements and Rides, the Alan Shearer Centre, Community Dental Nurse and many more.
The family fun day is a great opportunity for our families to find out information about local services, socialise with friends old and new and raise money for our wonderful school. Thanks so much for your support, and see you again next year at our 2020 Family Fun Day!
