Pe And Sports Blog

Weekly news

21st January 2022Elaine Quinn

This week in PE we have been practicing our aiming and throwing skills. We are getting really good at this and will continue to flourish through the term.

We have also been learning the time in class and we can confidently identify o’clock and we are now working on half past the hour.

We have also learnt some very interesting facts about space and we looked at subheadings and grouped the sentences to the correct sub headings.

We have also started back at Sir Charles Parsons for our weekly swim. This week we have been practicing putting our heads under the water to retrieve an item off the floor.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe.

A splashing week

12th November 2021Elaine Quinn

Hello everyone we hope you have had a lovely week!

This week the pool was back open and working again, so we kicked off this half terms swimming lessons with a splash! We practiced our kicking skills and splashed all our friends , it was so much fun.  At the end of the lesson we all did races, which we were all so good at, as we listened to instructions very well.

This week in Food tech we were joined by our new Deputy Headteacher Alex. We showed him our excellent listening and cooking skills and made some very tasty fresh pasta! While the pasta was cooking, we made pictures out of some dry pasta which we really enjoyed.

In our class we have been really working hard on our writing. As it was bonfire night last week, we wrote a 5 senses poem about it. Firstly, we discussed the 5 senses and wrote down what we could hear, see, smell, touch and taste. The next day we started to write our poems up! We produced some amazing pieces of work and we used our phonic knowledge to help us with our spelling!

We also had football Friday lunch time with Graham and Rachel’s class! This was so much fun and we even had a class vs class dodgeball game at the end !

We hope you have a lovely weekend and stay safe !

Weekly news!

9th July 2021Elaine Quinn

Its been sports week and we have had non stop fun! It has been our 1st Hadrian Olympics we were team Peru!

Our week began with a Peruvian parade with Peru flags, Olympic torches and fabulous bright patterned hats we made ourselves, we did not get very far before the heavens opened and we got a good soaking which the kids found hilarious.

Tuesday we had yoga in the yurt we done lots of sporting poses and tried toga which was new to us, yoga with our toes. We had a sensory story about the Olympics with the highlight being Kairen dressed in a sumo suit. In the afternoon it was too wet for us to play cricket outside so we went for a walk in our waterproofs after that was boxing which was a big hit, all the class surprised us with their skills.

We had a special treat Wednesday crazy golf! After bit practice the putting skills were getting better and better but sadly none of us could get a hole in one. We then went cheerleading and line dancing on the outside decking.

Thursday began with karate, then outdoor tennis, rebound and an obstacle course in the caterpillar garden. Think the children and the adults are well and truly exhausted,

What a fabulous week it has been Ellen did a fantastic job with organising and coordinating all the activities.

We ended the week with a whole school closing ceremony on the flow filed with all classes in their bubbles. We had an amazing dance teacher who had us all up learning new moves, it was such a special day being together (socially distanced) and having a dance around with all our friends.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Weekly news!

18th June 2021Elaine Quinn

We have been practicing for weeks to take part in Newcastle Virtual Dance Festival!

The children have worked so hard rehearsing their moves and loved every minute of dressing up in the dancewear we borrowed from our Bev at reception.

We had a wonderful morning in the sports hall watching all the different schools who participated in the dance festival performing their dance routines. We got cosy on the beanbags with the lights off and watched it on the big screens, and to make it the total theatre experience we had a few snack break intervals with our favourite treats popcorn, bombay mix, sweets and crisps.

They all looked amazing on the big screen and we are all so proud of them.

Hope you all managed to watch the video, here is the link for anyone who missed it.

Mr Rollings managed to join us for our dance performance and was so impressed he gave us all a Hadrian school medal to go with our certificate.

It is our half term achiever assembly next Friday, so remember to check Dojo for log on details.

Have a wonderful weekend.

A sneak peak at our Rebound Therapy programmes….

11th December 2020Loveday Fisk

This week we wanted to share with you our rebound therapy work.  It is a festive time of year, filled with Christmas fun.  But even during these festive times, we maintain physical outcomes as a priority in class. It is so important to all of our children to continue to work hard to make sure we are well over the festive period as well as any other time of the year.  What better way to achieve this than using our bespoke Rebound Therapy Centre.  In our weekly sessions we work on children’s individual rebound therapy programmes. We learn about balance, posture, position, strength, stamina and movement.  We start the session with a lovely stretch and massage to get our bodies ready to work.  We then use equipment on the trampolines to encourage exploration and play, enabling children to work without even knowing they are working!!! Our Rebound Therapy centre is essential for our children to access a broad physical education curriculum, meeting the needs of every child who accesses it.

Have a look at our session’s in action….

Aaron doing some great crawling over obstacles

Fatima loves walking using her walker.

Basheer, Leen and Conlan balancing using a roll during a horsey horsey song!

Fatima crawling and really working hard to get herself over obstacles!

Leen in a crawling position, working out how to get over the wedge!

Fatima cross legged sitting position

Leen using her core muscles to balance on the top of a ball!

Our lovely freinds Leen and Fatima maintaining a lovely sitting position during a gentle bounce on the trampoline

This week in class, our little Loveday elves also began making gifts for home in our Christmas toy shop!  See if you can guess what we began making.

Here’s a clue….you can hang it on you Christmas tree!!!

Well done to our wonderful Fatima.  She was awarded a certificate in our zoom assembly this morning.  She was presented with this certificate and her chosen treat was a bag of Maltesers which she enjoyed as she watched the rest of our achievers assembly!

A little elf told me this week that Loveday’s class were in the process of making a Christmas show!! Watch this space for details to follow.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas……

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Stay safe!

We Like To Move!

28th February 2020June Ball

We are a very physical bunch and are always on the move. This week we were lucky to have with us Christine, a dance teacher who worked with us before Christmas on a “Santa’s Workshop” dance theme. This half term we are going to be exploring “Animals” and how they wake from hibernation and how they grow and change. We explored a range of different movements this week and very quickly Christine realised what a talented group we are and so will be introducing more challenging moves and ideas next week.

Some children are also going to Jabadao every Thursday to develop their physical skills. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore a range of movements at our own pace and also to work with other children from different classes.

Let’s get Physical.

14th February 2020Phil Cookson

This half term class 3/4 have enjoyed doing Dance in PE and also having an extra PE session each week doing Tag Rugby. The class have engaged well in the sessions and we were so lucky to have Reece come in to coach us. We have learnt and practised a range of skills including; catching, kicking and dodging as well as working on our balance.

The photos speak for themselves as to how much the children enjoyed the sessions.

This week in 3/4

7th February 2020Phil Cookson

What a busy week. We have achieved so much this week, some fantastic learning has been taking place and excellent levels of engagement from all our children in class 3/4. From using money to pay for snacks to beginning to learn how to tell the time! The children have been making play dough; pizza’s and even went to the shops to get their own ingredients.

We have been very physical this week too, lots of PE, Tag Rugby and yoga to get our bodies stretched and moving. This is fantastic for when we start to put our dance moves to good use in PE next Monday and create our very own dance routine.

Ellie May received the certificate in assembly today for her fab work in music on Wednesday. She rocked the keyboard and really got in to the rhythm of the music. Well done Ellie May!

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and see you next week for one more week of hard work before the half term holidays.
