Ready, Steady, Go!

Jabadao

In our Jabadao sessions the children are free to explore the equipment – when the children take an interest in an area they can explore, play, try out with the support of an adult or a friend in class. Jabadao provides many opportunities for the children to work on their physical, communication and social skills.

As always – this week we had a very successful Jabadao session, the children were really engaged and some were happy to discover new things independently with their peers.

Yahya had so much fun sitting on the body board, while his friend Peniel pulled him around the hall by the string attached, that’s great team work!

Ella was engrossed in wobbling Jordan from side to side in the big cone – Jordan kept signing for more, and Ella gave him more!

Daniel enjoyed playing with the large gym ball -pushing it to and fro with his friend Peniel.

Peniel had fun standing on the balance board; this is really wobbly and tricky to stay on. With the support of an adult Peniel did really well to stay on for a little while – this is a great way to practice balance and strength.

Jacob was really engaged with his communication this week, he was climbing up the steps then sliding down the slope, each time he told us to go fast or slow!

Aaron had a giggle with an adult while he chased the roll by crawling to catch it… the adult pushing it just out of reach every time he got close, Aaron thought this was hilarious!

Fatima had a lovely time stretching her body out by sliding back and forth on her tummy with an adult pushing and pulling her by her arms on the slippery floor.

Lacey had fun crawling through the tunnel, she also enjoyed it when the adult put the tunnel over her head and sprung it up and down to play hide and seek.

Leen had her second Jabadao session, she very much enjoyed sitting on the gym ball bouncing up and down! The adult was modelling stop on the core vocabulary board between bounces, Leen was showing lots of excitement with smiles all round – the adult communicated with more bounces using the core vocabulary each time Leen showed her engagement.

Kimberly showed strength and determination while shaking the ropes up and down to the rhythm she selected from the core vocabulary board ‘fast’ or ‘slow’! Her communication and engagement during this task was impeccable – she presented great concentration while having fun and smiling the whole time!

Kimberley has started walking all by herself with nothing to help her this week – for the first time!  We are so proud.  She loved doing it in Jabadao, even turning corners by herself!

Joseph loved rolling back and forth on the big red roll with adult support – using his communication aid he asked for ‘more’ and ‘slow’ repeatedly.

Ella had a giggle with an adult on the big red gym ball – she was rolling onto the ball and back off landing on her feet each time –this is great for her balance and physical strength in her legs. She also found it funny to keep pushing the adult off the ball, signing more to do it again!

Thank you for checking in on us, we will see you next week. Loveday and Team xx

A Balancing Act!

23rd January 2020June Ball

For PE this term we will be doing gymnastics!

Thinking of all the ways we can move and shape our bodies. Last week we focused on travel in gymnastics, galloping and leaping we were able to move straight onto shape and balance this week. We practised four shapes this week. The Pike, Straddle, Tuck and Star. Once we had the shapes perfected we moved onto balancing ourselves while walking along a beam. (Or benches!) We all gave 100% and some of us moved onto a finer beam and using finishing positions after jumping from the beam.

Tune in next week for more class 4/5 news!

Splish, Splash, Splosh!

Swimming

On Tuesdays, we all get a chance to work on our water skills in the Hydro Pool.

With new targets to work towards, our sessions have seen us floating, splashing, blowing bubbles on the surface, building confidence to be independent and trying new things while in the water. With lots of smiles all round!

Daniel, Jacob and Peniel have made excellent progress in floating on their backs with support from an adult, beginning to stay calm and relaxed while doing so.

Most of the class are becoming so independent when in the pool, walking around the space with minimal to no support at all! Ella began initiating water play through splashing and signing for more.

Aaron enjoys floating with no adult support, and is becoming increasingly confident with walking around the pool independently – only using small ankle weight aids to help keep those little feet on the ground.

Jordan is enjoying new experiences joining the group in the hydro session -having water play and intensive interaction with adult support in the paddling pool. He is very happy and often communicates with signing or selecting more on the core vocabulary communication boards!

Thank you for the read, see you next week! Loveday and team xx
