Science and DT Week: Part 1

14th May 2019Rachael Budden

It is only Tuesday and we have already had SO much fun being scientists this week!  We experienced the Cool Science Guy in assembly on Monday who definitely lived up to his name, even going as far as to setting Mr. Rollings on fire (safely!)!  We also made boats for our competition in the hydropool later in the week and got messy by making slime- as you can imagine this went down very well with the children!  Today, some of us participated in a den building session and we have also been to the garden centre to buy seeds to plant tomorrow.  Hopefully we will have some lovely carrots and peas to eat soon!

We will keep you posted with pictures of our fun to come!

Fun at the Fair

3rd May 2019Rachael Budden

All of our dreams came true yesterday when we visited Nunsmoor Mini-Hoppings…we had the entire fair to ourselves meaning no crowds or queues!  We had the BEST time!  We would like to say a massive thank you to William Clark & Son Funfairs and to the Northumbria Community Police Officers for giving us the opportunity to have lots of fun at the fair!

The Alnwick Garden

26th April 2019Rachael Budden

We had such an amazing trip to the Alnwick Garden this week!  6b even got a certificate in assembly today to commend them for their enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour on such a fabulous day out.  We can’t wait for more outdoors-y trips in the coming summer term.

Our pictures say a thousand words…

Happy Easter!

5th April 2019Rachael Budden

We have had a wonderful final week of the Spring term!  We have finished our study of Oliver Twist, had a fantastic Ceilidh and had our final horse riding session at the Pegasus Centre.  Today has been filled with Easter fun-including making Easter hats and cards which concluded in our Easter Bonnet parade.  Thank you so much to all of you who sent in sponsorship for this to be donated to the Sunshine Fund-your kindness is much appreciated!

Have a lovely Easter and see you all on Tuesday April 23rd!

Horse Riding at the Pegasus Centre

29th March 2019Rachael Budden

We are so impressed at how confident and talented the children are at our Horse Riding sessions at the Pegasus Centre!  The weather was beautiful yesterday so the children were lucky enough to ride the horses outside in the sunshine.  Just look at how great they are doing!

Newsletter 22nd March

29th March 2019Rachael Budden

Our World Book Day assembly was just brilliant-our performance of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt blew everyone’s socks off and 6B’s costumes were amazing! Year 6 also did brilliantly in our St. Patrick’s Day assembly this week with lots of singing and Irish jigs going on! A big well done goes to Kai (Saint Patrick) and Joe (Michael Flatley) who performed their socks off!

In Literacy, we have wrapped up our autobiographies and biographies unit and are now ready to begin a new story-Marc will be teaching the class lessons around Oliver Twist on Monday and we can’t wait! In Numeracy, we are working hard at telling the time and linking it to our day at school. In Humanities, we have engaged in the process of Mummification and are now designing and making our very own death masks. We can’t wait to see them finished!

The children are enjoying their horse riding sessions so much and we can’t believe how confident they are! We have 2 sessions left but wish we had more! They are also doing a brilliant job in our Dance City sessions on Monday mornings.

Everyone is enjoying our Life Skills visits to town. The children are becoming much more confident at paying their own bus fares and ordering their own snacks. We will be visiting Newcastle again after Easter.

Well done to Saffron and Amelia who have both achieved our Half Term Achiever’s certificates over the past 2 weeks. We are so proud of your achievements!

Kung Hey Fat Choi!

6th February 2019Rachael Budden

We had a fabulous Chinese New Year yesterday! We performed for the whole school as a Chinese dragon and played instruments- it was so much fun!  Just look at us all dressed up, don’t we look amazing?! We also had rice, noodles, spring roles and prawn crackers for snack, yum!

Visit to the BALTIC

25th January 2019Rachael Budden

We were lucky enough to visit the BALTIC this week and had a great time!  Our favourite exhibit was definitely The Age of Love by Heather Phillipson – a series of sounds, videos and objects with blue flashing lights.  We had a great dance to the music and really enjoyed watching the videos (especially the cat!).  We also loved A Retrospective by Rasheed Araeen – the children’s opinions on both exhibits were great! 6B would definitely recommend that you visit the BALTIC to see them!

We are dancers!

24th January 2019Rachael Budden

6a and 6b were lucky enough to have Paul from Dance City come into visit us this week to teach us how to dance! He taught us a routine and then we freestyled in a big circle.  The children certainly showed us some amazing moves!  Thank you Paul, we had a fantastic time!

Happy New Year!

11th January 2019Rachael Budden

Happy New Year and welcome back!  We hope you had a lovely Christmas!

We have been refreshed and raring to go this week in 6b and the children have been working VERY hard.  Lots of reading and writing has been going on along with lots of practice at using money.  We had a brilliant life skills trip to town on Wednesday where the children really did us proud-everyone paid their own bus fare, ordered their own snack from a choice of 3 along with choosing and buying their own pencil cases.  What an independent bunch we have!

We must also say a very big ‘welcome’ to Lloyd who has absolutely loved his first week with us.  We hope you can make it to our coffee afternoon on Thursday 24th January so you can meet him.

Have a lovely weekend!

Rachael, Lloyd, Stu, Tracy and Rob
