Our Surprise!

17th September 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have started learning on their new English text ‘Handa’s Surprise’. They have been exploring and learning about all the fruits in Handa’s basket and even managed to taste them all! The Guava was very hard to find so we had to get it shipped in and the children were all very excited for its arrival, we waited until Wednesday for it to arrive. Then Robina had to try and carry it all on her head like Handa while the children snuck up and stole the fruit like in the story. They cut the fruit up in Food Technology and made a delicious smoothie using the blender.

They have also been creating some lovely Art and Design Technology pieces based on the Topic for the term ‘Africa’. They have been making some Maasai Tribe necklaces from paper plates and started a beautiful African Sunset picture by ripping paper and sticking it on. They have looked at maps and coloured their own map of Africa as well as doing some Maths based on counting fruit this week.

Our children have a breakfast club in class every Monday and Wednesday morning to practice their self help and independence skills. We also encourage communication and other important skills such as sharing and helping others in these sessions. This week the children have thoroughly enjoyed this in the mornings and we feel it is so important to get that ‘brain food’. I would like to thanks our parents for helping fund this by sending in so many lovely breakfast things for the children to try.

We also had our Nafisa turn 8 this week – Happy Birthday Nafisa!

Welcome Back

10th September 2021Tracy Gooderick

Welcome back to a new school year we hope you had a lovely summer! We are all so excited in our class to have some old faces back and some new children joining us this year!

This year we are a year 2/3 class mix and we have some lovely new topics to be working through. This term our learning will be on the theme of Africa. However this week the children have just been getting to know their new surroundings, the staff and eachother as well as learning the new routines.

We have some that are new to school this year so we would like to say a big welcome to Jacob and Leighton! They have both had a fabulous first week and we have really enjoyed getting to know them.

The children have been doing some learning about 9/11 this week and they have made some lovely American flags for our class display. We have so many new boards to fill! They also had a secret ballot and elected their new class representative for the school council. Zack won the election and he will attend meetings with Mr Rollings during the year to discuss important issues and share his ideas.

Thanks so much to everyone who sent in food to fund our new breakfast club we will be running this year. Our club will help promote the children’s self help and independence skills and hopefully give them brain food to start their day. We welcome any donations of cereals, bread and milk.

Have a lovely weekend and keep checking on our fun weeks ahead!

Your flight has been cancelled!

2nd July 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week due to unexpected Covid related issues our provider has had to cancel our trip to Mexico! However the staff and children that managed to make it to school did still do some lovely activities and learning linked to Mexico in preparation for our exciting Sports Week next week.

Our class have been given the country Mexico and they have been doing some lovely activities based on this. They made red and green playdough, explored Mexican music through Maracas and even made their own maracas!

The children have enjoyed tortilla chips and dips as well this week and have been training for Sports Week by doing the Daily Mile Trail around school. They are all very excited for the amazing activities planned next week!

Have a lovely weekend!

Hola!

24th June 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have been starting a Mexican journey! They have been making passports because next week they are going to Mexico!!!!! (not really)!

In a few weeks it is our Sports Week in school and Ellen has given each class a country to represent. Our class country is Mexico so we have started learning all about it and our learning will finish with a role play trip to sunny Mexico.

The children have been learning how they would say ‘hello’ if they were in Mexico, what type of foods they could eat and what music they would hear. They have made Mexican flags to wave in the parade at the Sports Week opening ceremony and cooked and eaten spicy fajitas.

It was a very special day on Tuesday this week as it was THE FIRST DAY THE WHOLE CLASS HAVE BEEN IN SCHOOL!!!!!!! We had to take a photo incase it doesn’t happen again!

This week we have also celebrated Mehvish’s birthday and the children had a lovely party and disco for her. Thanks Mehvish’s mum for sending in all the lovely food!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Partaaaaaayyyyyy!

18th June 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week has been a fun week for the children and staff in our class. We have had so many things to celebrate! It was our lovely Yvonne’s 60th birthday this week and we couldn’t let it pass quietly. The children made her day very special by celebrating at her party with games and dancing to ‘old’ music. She then had a lovely afternoon tea in the sun with the children in the afternoon complete with a beautiful spread and tea set.

Our teaching student Becky spent her last day on placement with us sadly but she went out with a bang and the children threw her a party on Wednesday. We love a dance in our class! We are sad to see Becky go but hopefully will see her on a weekly basis volunteering with us soon.

The children have been doing lovely Creative Arts this week in their spare time (when they weren’t partying!). They have started practising for a class performance which we hope to share with you all virtually by the end of term. They explored costumes and made some props, starting learning songs and auditioned for parts. We are very excited about it. They also made some special cards and explored marbling. It was lots of fun!

Have a lovely weekend!

Fun in the Sun!

11th June 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week has been absolutely glorious!!!! The sun definitely had his hat on!

We decided to create our own water park, as we aren’t allowed out on trips just yet. And it was a huge success with the children. Infact everyone in school booked into it for a session!

We had pools and sprays and bubbles! Everything the children asked for. We even had a bouncy castle.

Also this week has been Nelson and Zack’s Birthdays and in Food Technology we made a rainbow cake for them. It looked tasted delicious!

We hope the weather stays nice for your weekend, enjoy!

Green Fingers

27th May 2021Tracy Gooderick

We have had green fingers again this week! The children have been learning about the parts of a plant and planting their own flowers and vegetables. They have been working on their colouring skills and learning about the roots and what they do. The children used straws to suck up the water like the roots of a plant. They also explored different plants and looked at a spiky cactus. The children did some lovely sensory exploration using soil and fake flowers to ‘pot their plants’. They have been on the look out for their butterflies emerging but it hasn’t happened yet! The caterpillars have turned into their cocoons or chrysalis so it will be 7 to 14 days before we get our butterflies. The children were not impressed with the cocoons and thought they were YUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK!

It is half term next week so we will see you all after the holidays! Enjoy your holiday!

Growing and growing

21st May 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have been continuing with their theme of growing. They painted some lovely still life flower pictures and really concentrated on using the paintbrush to make the lines. They had a very close look at the model plant and used the colours that they saw. They have been continuing working on their The Very Hungry Caterpillar story and learning the fruits and Days of the Week. In Maths they have been working on making groups of 3 and recognising numerals. The children have been working alot on their fine and gross motor skills, finding Caterpillars on a obstacle course where they had to climb to get them and making paper mache Caterpillars in Art.

Have a lovely weekend!

Week 5 Tracy

14th May 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week in our class we have completed our sculpture for the upcoming Art Exhibition in the Caterpillar Garden. The children have been working on using old ties to make a beautiful mosaic flower. You can even put your head in it and get your photo taken like the ones at the funfair!

We also had a very special delivery this week of Caterpillars! The children are going to look after the Caterpillars and in 3-5 weeks we are hoping they will turn into beautiful butterflies! We check how much they have grown daily and make sure to put them to bed at night. The children were so excited and very happy to have our new visitors. We can’t wait to see what they become and how they get to be butterflies!

The children have also been planting on their ‘Growing’ Theme. They have been looking at seeds and planting herbs and vegetables as well as cress. Its been hard work this week looking after all the growing things in our class! Flowers, plants and Caterpillars!

Maths this week was on the theme of flowers, the children were counting petals onto flowers and matching numerals. In English they have been learning about the Days of the week and their story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

It was Well-Being week this week and the children wanted to have a Spa afternoon. They had massages, foot spas and went to the nail bar! It was very relaxing and calm. It is a favourite activity in our class and everyone LOVES getting their nails done!

This week it was Sophia’s Birthday! Happy Birthday Sophia!

Hungry Caterpillars!

7th May 2021Tracy Gooderick

This week the children have been working hard on their Hungry Caterpillar topic and learning about fruit and veg. They made a lovely vegetable soup in DT this week using carrots, potatoes, spinach, onion, broccoli and working on their grating skills. They also made a hungry caterpillar sandwich to go with their soup using green spread and vegetables and working on their spreading and chopping skills.

We have also focused on finding names, completing inset jigsaw puzzles and practical skills for some people in the kitchen, recognising danger and preparing for when we have to do chores!

Our good news this week – Emma has her new trike and has been whizzing around outside! Well done Emma!
