Children in Need

15th November 2019Phil Cookson

This week we have had a very busy week taking part in lots of activities to support Children in Need. Class 3/4 made a duck class mascot which we named ‘Maquackalakin’. The duck supported all of the activities and watched over the children to make sure they stayed on task. We also decorated some biscuits in food technology keeping in the theme of Children in Need and put smarties on them for Pudsey Bear’s spots. We enjoyed colouring our Pudsey Bear masks in Art and Raheel was crowned the winner for his fantastic efforts! The children will be taking part in the ‘Quackers Run’ this afternoon and we thank you all for your excellent efforts in gaining sponsorship money for the children.

We started our week with a trip out to the Hancock Museum on Monday. The children enjoyed looking at and experiencing the animals and dinosaurs and all had a fantastic time. We are very proud of how well the children were behaved on our outing and how well they represented Hadrian School.

In Science we started learning about light and shadows and the class have been making lots of different shadows using their bodies and props with the big screen and torches. This was a big hit with the children!

The children have all had a very busy week and deserve a well-earned rest this weekend; we have had some children off poorly this week so we wish them a speedy recovery.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Class 3/4 Team.

Rebound

Here in Hadrian School we are very lucky to have our very own Rebound Therapy Centre. Rebound therapy has a wide range of benefits to all of our children. Our children have their own specific programme to follow in order to get the most out of this trampoline therapy. It provides opportunities for therapeutic positioning, enhancing movement patterns, exercise, relaxing muscles and strengthening muscles. Additionally we may concentrate on balance, confidence and communication. It is a fun and enjoyable way to progress in all areas of learning! We sing, we count, we talk, we sign, we use energy and we relax!

Throughout our day we have been using core vocabulary communication boards to create opportunities for the children to tell us what they want, whether it be – more, go, stop, help, fast or slow. Rebound is a perfect way to incorporate our core vocabulary, the children enjoy the session which is a good motivator for communicating.

Lacey has picked up the core vocabulary really well choosing stop when the singing and bouncing stops – then selecting more from the board to get going again!

Kimberly has grown in confidence. At the beginning of this school year, she wasn’t keen on sitting on the roll and preferred to be sitting on the trampoline, however this week she has really enjoyed sitting on the roll singing ‘horsey horsey’ while bouncing on the trampoline. Her balance is great and there was smiles all round!

Daniel has been calm during sessions listening to directions and following them whilst having fun signing for more.

Ella is beginning to tolerate her leg strengthening and balance exercise on the trampoline more. Brilliant work Ella!

All of the children have been working very hard, well done to everyone!

Here are some photos of our children getting the most out of this week’s Rebound session. See you all next week, Loveday and team xx

Duck Fun Run for Children In Need

14th November 2019Coralie Forbes

We all had fun taking part in a class fun run for Children In Need on Thursday afternoon! The theme was “ducks” and we had lots of fun exploring feathers and then dancing round the school to some great Disney music.

Surprise visit from Pudsey bear Friday morning had all the children smiling!

The children looked fab in their special outfits! We then had an afternoon of games and a Children in Need assembly.

We hope you all have a great weekend.

Firework fun in Art!

8th November 2019Coralie Forbes

We have had another busy and happy week.

As it was Bonfire Night we decided to be creative and design a firework display for our walls. All the children had fun using metallic and fluorescent paint to create swirls and marks using their hands on black paper. We then had fun with lots of glitter and sequins to make everything sparkly. We listened to “firework” music as we worked and turned the lights down low to enhance the experience! We now have a fantastic display on our wall!

(Sorry about all the glitter that went home attached to the children, but we had great fun!!)

What a great first week back! We have welcomed our new friends Jessica and the children have been so kind and friendly, helping her to settle in.

Our new science topic is ‘light and shadow’ and we have had a wonderful week learning new vocabulary and experiencing day and night. We have started a new sensory story – Julia Donaldson’s ‘Night monkey, day monkey’. We also had a fabulous lesson role playing day time and night time events. We loved getting our payjamas on, listening to bedtime stories and then eating breakfast!

Hadrian Hairshop

Another busy day in the salon!

Busiest salon day to date with 54 children visiting.

The children really enjoyed the experience, which is more reassuring with their own class staff accompanying them. They also loved to watch their friends having their hair cut and everyone has the opportunity to practice hair styling with the hair styling heads and accessories.

We have raised over £700 which has enabled us to buy resources for both the salon and classes around the school.

We will be running another salon day during next half term so keep an eye out for your pre Christmas appointment!

Adaptive clothing to ease the stress of dressing

25th October 2019Elaine Quinn

There are many companies now making clothes that work for children with additional needs, it can ease the stress out of uncomfortable, tight clothing or having to undo clothing. For example, to access a peg for gastro feed.

These back fastening coats are great.

Happy Half Term!

25th October 2019Rachael Budden

This week, we started the week with a visit to Safety Works, an interactive safety centre.  We learned lots about how to keep ourselves safe in situations such as crossing the road, in the park and in the house.  It was a brilliant morning!

We have been lucky enough to have participated in lots of Halloween activities too.  We are also looking forward to watching a Panto this afternoon in the school hall!

Phew, what a week!  We definitely need a rest next week, so the children are allowed to stay off until November 4th 😉

Have a lovely half term and stay safe,

Rachael, Alex, Lewis and Tracy

A busy half-term

25th October 2019John Mosley

Well we’ve reached the end of a very busy half term at last. All of our fabulous children have worked extremely hard to meet their targets. Some of us have had weekly visits to Jesmond Dene for community engagement, as well as picking conkers in the wildlife garden.

Unfortunately for us today was our Tendai’s last day at Hadrian school as he is moving away from Newcastle with his family tomorrow. We’re all going to miss him a lot but would like to wish them all the best of luck in their new home.

Happy holidays

Happy Halloween

25th October 2019June Ball

Because Halloween is next week when we are on holiday, we ‘ve had a Halloween themed week. We decorated the Shed Halloween style and even had scary music playing. We made spooky witches fingers and Halloween jelly in Food Technology. In Maths and English our work tied into the Halloween theme too. Best of all on Friday every child in our class dressed up. What amazing costumes we had. Thank you for making such a tremendous effort. The children were so delighted.

We hope you have a good week and we look forward to seeing everyone safely back on Monday, 4th November.

Babs, June, Jess, Sue and Carol.
